Chapter 58 - Presentation

In the ensuing silence, Conquest grabbed Granny Chiyo's shoulder, feeling the sudden tension.

"Can you keep that between us, Lilith?"

Granny Chiyo let out a long breath, her blind eyes closing for a moment before drifting open again.

"No, darling. I think it's best they know. Also do me a favor and call me Chiyo. The last thing I want is some demon catching wind of my name and running straight to Lucifer with it."

Conquest gritted her teeth.

"Why?! Why should we tell them anything? I already told you, I don't trust these people. And sharing my vulnerabilities with criminals is just absurd."

Chiyo stepped into the elevator and gestured for Conquest to follow.

"Come, I'll explain on the way up."

Conquest stepped into the elevator as it climbed toward the ninetieth floor.

Yet she had a hard time understanding why Chiyo would put her at risk by trusting these criminals.

After all, if they were truly friends in the past, she would have expected her to be more sympathetic about her current situation.

Granny Chiyo tilted her head.

"Now, the reason I want everyone to know, but especially Liu Han, is because… That needle relic of his has the ability to identify what's wrong inside a person's body. Diseases, infections, cancer, bacteria, even things that shouldn't be there that the human eye can't see. I've watched him use it on his own men when doctors couldn't figure out what was killing them. And there's a chance that if he can identify what's clogging your mana, then getting rid of it will become a matter of time."

That Liu Han guy is able to somehow scan my body with his relic item? If he could actually do something like that, then maybe telling them is actually worth the risk!

"But do you even know if his relic will work on me? I'm not exactly human. I'm a Horseman of the Apocalypse."

Chiyo cleared her throat.

"Yes, I'm sure. He used that needle relic on me once to check if any trace of my former self as the Demon Sin of Lust still lingered. Turns out, I'm one hundred percent human after all."

Conquest ran a hand through her blonde hair as she frowned.

"But that doesn't prove it would work on me…"

Granny Chiyo put a hand to her chin as she smiled.

"Ah, you might be right about that. Well, it's worth testing it out. Don't you think so?"

Conquest's stomach dropped. Testing it out meant trusting Liu Han with her body. And that was a gamble she wasn't sure she could afford.

"I don't know, this seems too risky for me."

"Nothing to fear, darling. Relic items weren't made by humans. They were forged by the four great archangels and sent down to the mortal realm. And these items have been used against mythical beings throughout the unseen realm's history, not just humans. Trust me, if they work on them, they'll work on you."

"So Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel. They're the ones who forged the relic items. It's been so long I'd almost forgotten about them."

"Can't really blame you. Reincarnation tends to do that to a person's memory."

As Chiyo finished explaining, the elevator slowed to a stop at the ninetieth floor. From there, they made their way back to room 500 where the others were waiting.

Conquest stepped into the room. Liu Han, Kamui, and Gundo were already seated around a large roundtable that hadn't been there before.

A cigar hung from Liu Han's lips while his eyes stayed fixed on his laptop, which was wired to a TV mounted on the wall beside him. The screen was dark for now.

Conquest tilted her head in confusion.

"What's going on?"

Liu Han puffed his cigar and gestured toward the two empty chairs.

"Take a seat, ladies. I'm about to pull up the government's most wanted list. This should be quite interesting."

They both sat down next to each other as Conquest awaited for the TV screen to display.

She was interested if Liu Han was on that list of criminals that are wanted by the police and also she wanted to know if he had a larger bounty then Kamui who to her surprise had a pretty high bounty on his head.

They both sat down next to each other as Conquest waited for the TV screen to light up. Part of her curiosity was about knowing if Liu Han's name sat on that list alongside other vicious and brutal criminals.

And if it did, she wondered if his reward was higher than Kamui's, who to her surprise had a pretty large bounty on his head.

The TV screen flickered on. Right away, the first photo to appear was the Demon Sin of Envy. Unsurprisingly, there was no name listed since demons like him were complete unknowns to the government.

All they had was a simple photograph of him with his ridiculous long brown ponytail that went all the way to his ankles, and of course that familiar smug grin of his showing all his teeth. Only this time, a long snake-like tongue dangled from his mouth.

Liu Han pointed at the screen showing the fact that he will most likely be the biggest obstacle that we would have to deal with.

However, Conquest had the misfortune of facing not only Envy but also Sloth who is to her view just as powerful as envy even if he may not be as ambitious or motivated as him.

"Conquest, I assume that you know this demon from your past life?"

"Yes, however I should mention that I have very little memory of him."

"That's fine. I was just curious what you knew about him. Chiyo already filled me in on her little secret, and she mentioned knowing both you and this demon named Leviathan."

Granny Chiyo raised a finger before either of them could continue.

"I should mention that Leviathan and I couldn't stand each other. We kept our distance and left it at that. However, I could tell you what I heard from those who faced him in battle. They all said the same thing. His true form is terrifyingly large, large enough to cause tremors."

Liu Han grinned.

"Well, good thing we've got Gundo on our side. That relic item of his lets him grow in size to match whatever's in front of him. So dealing with this Leviathan shouldn't be much of a problem. Isn't that right, big man?"

Gundo's tongue hung out the side of his mouth, saliva dripping down his chin, both eyes pointing in opposite directions.

His bald head caught the light while his pale face oozed with infected pimples. He wore nothing but ripped jeans, every muscle on his massive frame on full display.

Conquest studied him for a moment. He looked like a complete idiot, the kind that would walk off a cliff if Liu Han told him to. But a body like that didn't come from standing around.

Whatever this man was capable of, she had a feeling Liu Han wouldn't keep him this close without good reason.

"Boss right. Me beat Leviathan. Me be big man."

"That's right, big man. You'll crush him no problem. And if things get rough, well, we've got a Horseman of the Apocalypse right here to assist you."

Conquest instantly side-eyed Granny Chiyo, who coincidentally did the same. It seemed that they had the same thought running through their minds. Which was, 'who should tell him?' Of course, it would feel weird for Conquest to be the one to speak up about this. Especially since she was the one that had to be convinced to trust these criminals.

"I may need to clarify a few things."

Granny Chiyo spoke up, which slightly eased Conquest's nerves. If she hadn't said anything right then and there, Conquest would have been compelled to tell them herself. Thankfully, Chiyo took that responsibility onto herself.

Liu Han raised an eyebrow.

"What is it?"

"Liu Han, Conquest needs your help. From what I can tell, something is clogging her mana and that needle relic of yours might be the only thing that can identify what it is."

Kamui's eyes lit up as he turned his head. It looked like veins were surfacing across his face as he gritted his teeth at what Granny Chiyo said. Conquest wasn't surprised. If the roles were reversed, she would have reacted the same way.

"I knew it. I should have just left for Mount Fuji on my own."

Gundo, who sat right next to Kamui, reached over and patted him on the head. His hand was so big it completely dwarfed Kamui's skull, like a grown man calming down a child.

"Shush, Listen to Boss. Boss always right. Okay little rabbit?"

At that very moment, Conquest knew just from the visible shock on Kamui's face that if he wasn't stopped right then and there, he would try to kill Gundo without a second thought. Luckily, Liu Han stepped in and grabbed Kamui's shoulder.

"Let it go, he did not mean any harm, isn't that right Gundo?"

"Boss, yes Boss. Me only want help Boss."

"Tsk, control this freak of yours," Kamui said.

Liu Han puffed his cigar a couple more times before wedging it between his teeth. The room fell quiet for a minute. Frankly, that was needed, as things were getting heated.

"Alright, this is what we're going to do. First, we'll go through the people on this bounty list. Then, once we have somewhat of a plan, I'll go ahead and scan your body using my needle."

Conquest shrugged. At this moment, she was at the mercy of Liu Han and whatever plan he had in mind. She couldn't really oppose it since she had no plan of her own. And to be fair, she was quite curious to know who was on that list anyway. So this worked out quite nicely.

"That's fine by me."

"Well, that's perfect, Conquest. Now, shall we continue going through this list? I promise, the people in here are quite interesting."
