『Hakari Kotaro』
My first morning as recovery girl's slave- I mean, as UA's official Assistant Nurse, passed rather uneventfully. First day back in UA, not much sparring or hero classes for me to get involved in, one general studies boy sprained his ankle while running for class and another kid overused his quirk during class and started bleeding from the nose. Nothing exciting or ticket giving.
Although the one ticket I did get was... well, it was certainly an ability.
Rolling Silver Ability Gacha...
A Rare Ability!
[Assign]
|Rare Ability|
Allows you to assign polarity to objects to make them attract or repel each other, needs physical contact to activate. The more energy you expend the stronger a polarity is.
It was definitely different from my usual kind of ability. It was a bit cumbersome and rather complicated, but I could definitely see the use for it. Especially when pairing it with other abilities.
Piercing Blood? That's cute.
Piercing Blood Railgun? Now that will put some hair on your chest.
Not to mention I was already experimenting with it as a movement ability, it was difficult but if I put + polarity on my feet and - polarity on where I am stepping, I can boost myself to great speeds. But it is very awkward to use.
Speaking of awkward, it was awkward as hell to be in class after Aizawa beat the shit out of me the day prior. My body still ached despite healing myself, I could heal injury but not exhaustion or pain. Not to mention the social awkwardness of having to be face to face with Aizawa, which was bad enough already without him beating the shit out of me the day prior.
"So then my mom sat me down and-"
Mina excitedly rattled off as she sat on my desk, while the other girls sat nearby, talking about how their parents acted after the terrorist attack on USJ, and how Toru's parents were really concerned about how they couldn't see her in the news to confirm if she was alright which I admit, got a chuckle out of me.
While Mina was busy talking about how worried her mother and father were about her safety, the door to the classroom suddenly slid open and everyone went dead silent, Mina all but vanished and sat down at her seat next to me the moment Aizawa stepped foot into the classroom.
Say what you want about him, but he knows how to command attention.
He walked towards the podium and set a stack of papers down, his tired gaze swept over the room, staying for a few moments longer on me and my rather haggard appearance, which I could swear made his lips quirk up a little before he coughed into his fist and cleared his throat.
"Alright class, we are doing something different today. This time you'll be facing a different kind of challenge during your hero careers." He let those words sit for a moment, building tension before he clarified his words. "The UA Sports Festival is drawing near."
""""A normal school event!?!?""""
Even Toga joined in the exclamation of surprise that came out of everyone at the news that UA could host events that were even remotely close to that of an actual school. All the while I was busy trying to scrounge my brain for whatever happened at the School Festival.
Uhhh, Shoto fights against Deku, gets somewhat over his daddy issues... and uhh...
Man, those recent series of concussions really aren't helping me, are they?
I do know that shortly after, Shit-Stain becomes a problem and Shigaraki causes another incident. And Ida's brother gets hospitalized.
But then again, those events cannot be exactly relied on now, both due to Remix, and me throwing canon down the sink due to making Shigaraki hate me more than he hates even All Might and drawing the attention of Tumor Potato Head Man.
At the very least, the motives of Piss-Stain should remain unchanged. And he will still cause trouble in... Hosu city is the name, I think. I could try to seek him out proactively, but that could draw the worse kind of attention from All For One considering he already considers him a potential asset.
Besides, that would require to me go across a city and try to hunt down one man among many which sounds like a massive bother-
-Thwack!
"Gah."
"Hakari, pay attention, this is important business."
I rubbed my forehead where the chalk hit and gave Aizawa a withering expression that he simply shrugged off. Now that he had achieved his purpose of getting to flick a chalk at my forehead with plausible cause he returned to his explanation.
Apparently, the Sports Festival would start a bit over a week later. And during that time leading to the Sports Festival, we were allowed to skip class as long as it was for training such as using one of the training areas or the gyms and whatnot.
Was I confident in my abilities? Definitely. Was I going to be arrogant and not train? Definitely not.
I am not above getting surprised, that much is clear. Despite my stack of abilities and traits, I can still be defeated, especially if multiple people team up, or one walking bundle of daddy issues actually tries for once.
Now... the Sports Festival, eh?
On one hand, this was basically promising me a whole lot of tickets waiting to be spent. Even if I loathed crowds.
On the other hand, fuck I was going to be so busy in the nurses office. Recovery girl definitely knew this, there is no other explanation as to why my new position and the reveal of the sports festival are so close together.
And the important part about the Festival was getting an internship, which I really needed to get a good one with. Hopefully Mirko. And for that I will really need to stand out. So I cannot be jobbing here.
After declaring the news about the Sports Festival Aizawa promptly dismissed everyone and left class, presumably to take a nap in some dark corner. Anyone could tell that a classroom was the last place he wanted to be at any point in time, this Sports Festival was definitely a plus in his books for letting him have a valid reason to not hold classes.
"Sports festival? I'm so excited!" "Yeah, never thought I'd get to participate in one of UA's famous sports festivals so early!" "I'm gonna crush all the competition!" "Hell yeah, I'm so pumped up!"
The moment Aizawa left the class, the hubbub returned at twice the intensity, people were chatting in a lively manner and talking loudly about how they were going to win and whatnot while Mina sat back on my desk with renewed energy, jabbing my side with a playful smirk.
"Yahoo! I'm so excited, what do you think Mr. Number One? Confident in your victory this time around?"
"Hmm... probably."
I wasn't exactly confident in my victory just yet, but I was practice just as hard as anyone else, and I had the cheat of all cheats in my pockets, so I better win.
"Huh!? The fuck you say? You wanna say that to my face you bastard!?"
As if he was awakened like a sleeping agent at the merest implication of anyone beating him, Bakugou snapped up and yelled at uncomfortable volumes. Mina winced as he got up and slammed his hand down on the table, but I didn't even bother to change my posture.
I simply lifted my head and looked him in the eyes, holding his gaze with my own, letting there be silence for a few seconds before replying.
"Hmm... probably."
"Oh, we'll see how smug you are when I blow you to hell and back, you variable prick!"
Variable prick? That's a new one.
"I'd welcome you trying."
Bakugou gave a challenging smirk as if that was what he wanted to hear, he leaned in close enough that our noses almost touched and glared into my eyes. His sweat actually smelled unexpectedly sweet from this distance. He had a kind of burnt caramel smell.
"You better."
With that, as if nothing happened he backed off and strutted to who knows where. Well, I do, it's almost certainly the gym. That guy had one hell of a heated look on him. Hopefully defeating him after a training arc is another feat.
"...That was kinda hot."
My head snapped to Mina so fast that it almost gave me whiplash. Mina was cradling her chin thoughtfully with a slight blush that made me blanch visibly.
I'm not even going to address that. For my own mental health at least.
"Excuse me, Mina-san, may I borrow you for a few hours if you wouldn't mind? I have been experimenting with a new technique that you may be able to help with."
Saving me from the embarrassment of saying anything to Mina after that horrid implication, Momo approached our table and tapped Mina's shoulder after giving me a nod and smile.
"Momo-chan? Really? I mean sure, I'd love to, I know for sure I have a lot to train for, whelp, I'll catch you later Hakari-kun."
"Yes, see you later Hakari-kun, I hope I can show you the fruits of our training soon."
With that, Momo left with Mina in tow, leaving me to myself, Toga had already dragged Hagakure away for some girl talk and maybe training of their own too. Speaking of, I better get to training, I assume Aizawa won't be thrilled about anyone asking him help with anything right now and Midnight probably has other classes right now so it was probably time for solo training for ol' Hakari.
Just as I got up from my seat and stretched my worn out muscles, a hand landed on my shoulder with surprising strength.
"Hey, Hakari-kun, I need your help with training."
Unexpectedly, the owner of the hand that had just clamped down on my shoulder was none other than Uraraka, who looked unusually intense in contrast with her carefree and bubbly behavior. I blinked cluelessly at her who looked like she was putting her life on the line.
"Yes?"
She shook he head and elaborated while giving off an intense aura.
"What I mean is, I really want to rank high in this sports festival that's why I need your help! You are good with quirks Hakari-kun, let's train, together!"
She pumped her fist with such ferocity that even I was taken aback for one second. Did a demon possess her while I was not looking? Why did she switch up like this again?
Goddamit man, why couldn't I have had an unhealthy obsession with My Hero Academia instead of Dark Souls?
"Uh, yeah, sure, I could use a training buddy. Let's go to training grounds Zeta, they are pretty spacious."
Uraraka bobbed her excitedly before pumping her fist up and yelling in a spirited tone.
"Yeah!!! Let's do our best!!!"
You know what?
I can deal with that.
It's better to have a training partner that is too pumped up rather than one who is not pumped up enough.
So I pumped up my fist too, though significantly less than hers.
"Yeah, let's do our best."
This Sports Festival was going to be mine.
A/N: We are back in UA proper and immediately back in action proper! The Sports Festival arc is coming in swinging, and with hopefully better pacing this time. Hakari has a good roll and the problem of his spotty canon knowledge along with his messing up with canon is rearing it's ugly head. But things will be fine. Surely.
I wanted a more character interaction chapter this time around, showing how different the class feels and how different characters act with the influence of Hakari as well as making the school feel natural. Hopefully I did a good job. Speaking of interaction, finally Uraraka is taking the spotlight for a little, something I never really gave her much before.
