MHGA Chapter 347 – The Shagaru Magala's Appetite for Altair

Facing the Shagaru Magala lunging toward Setsuna Shizaki, Altair did not hold back in the slightest.

Holopsicon activated without delay, unfolding an enormous, unknown magical array that collided head-on with the Shagaru Magala.

The Shagaru Magala's flight was finally interrupted—but upon being obstructed, it cast a proper glance at the tiny figure hovering in the sky before it.

Without hesitation, the Shagaru Magala opened its massive maw. The Frenzy Virus swirled, condensing into a violet-black breath that began to charge within the dragon's mouth.

Its body rose slightly in the air, as if gathering strength… And in the next instant, a beam of solidified Frenzy Virus, like a cannon of light, slammed into the magic array Altair had deployed.

The immense impact, far beyond Altair's expectations, spread across Holopsicon's deployed defenses. The dispersed Frenzy Virus appeared as though it would stain the entire sky black.

Kairo Retsu looked up at the Shagaru Magala attacking Altair in the distance, his emotions complicated.

"Frenzy Compression Beam…"

Under the assault of the Frenzy Compression Beam, cracks like shattered glass quickly spread across the array Altair had deployed.

She desperately poured in more power, but Holopsicon's defense continued to collapse under the Shagaru Magala's onslaught.

This attack Altair was enduring… was not bound by settings or rules she could alter. It was pure, overwhelming force—so pure that Holopsicon's ability to override narrative constraints could not affect it.

To Altair, the impact was far too raw.

Like a force that could crush mountains and shatter steel and jade, it pounded unrelentingly on the defenses she held aloft.

It was an unchangeable force—just like how one can only redirect a thousand pounds with four ounces… if one has the strength to wield those four ounces in the first place.

Just before the array completely shattered, Altair forcibly invoked a chapter. of Holopsicon to deflect the Shagaru Magala's attack.

Partially absorbed by the defensive array, the remaining blast of the Frenzy Compression Beam was just barely redirected through Holopsicon's manipulation.

What remained exploded outward in a Frenzy Virus burst, polluting the surrounding environment and obscuring most of the visual field. The virus's nature further dulled all perception.

Sensing something amiss, Altair prepared to move—but from within the miasma of Frenzy Virus, the Shagaru Magala's massive draconic head suddenly lunged out, maw wide open, snapping down at her.

There was no time to evade. Altair twisted her body midair, raising her officer's saber just in time to meet the dragon's jaws.

Its fangs shattered her blade in an instant, and then clamped down hard on her right arm.

The razor-sharp teeth severed her arm cleanly—but Altair paid no heed to the injury. The moment she was hit, she used Holopsicon to force distance between herself and the Shagaru Magala.

Just as she had feared, the golden dragon immediately lunged again at where she had just been. If she hadn't dodged the moment she did… she would have already been devoured.

And then Altair realized—it wasn't just Setsuna Shizaki.

She herself was also one of the dragon's targets.

But compared to her… Setsuna was the easier prey.

The moment that realization dawned, the Shagaru Magala lunged for her once more—but a streak of violet lightning struck down on its head, diverting its gaze and causing it to halt mid-flight, scanning for the source of the attack.

High above, Alice rode her warhorse in a soaring arc, watching the Shagaru Magala, which had taken a direct hit from her spell and barely seemed affected. Her expression darkened with unease.

As Alice drew its attention, Cereja flew in on her magical armored unit, grabbing the wounded Altair and flying toward the cluster of buildings near the station, using the structures to block the dragon's line of sight.

"You…?!" Altair hadn't expected to be rescued. But Cereja replied bluntly, "You don't want your creator to be harmed by that dragon, do you?"

She spoke plainly: "Setsuna Shizaki will stop you from doing what you intended before. And besides… we can't just stand by and watch her get killed right after being brought back. This world—"

Cereja continued, "If the world of the gods is destroyed, who knows what'll happen to our own world?"

"And more importantly… would you really want to see the world your creator lives in be destroyed?" With those words, Cereja brought Altair into the shelter of the buildings. After setting her down to tend to her injuries, she prepared to charge back out again—to draw the Shagaru Magala's attention and buy time for the others.

At the same time… a mentally exhausted Kairo Retsu suddenly received an unexpected message.

"Laios!? You're awake?" Kairo Retsu looked at the Gathering Hub channel where Laios had appeared. "I didn't get a chance to look for you earlier. Did you wake up on your own?"

Laios sounded a little unsure in the channel: "Uh… it seems like the scene changed, and the place where I passed out turned into a train track… and then I got hit by a train and woke up. First thing I saw was Altair clashing with the Shagaru Magala overhead…"

"Never mind that! I found something!" Laios pressed urgently. "What's happened since I blacked out? I just saw the Shagaru Magala bite off Altair's arm… It looks like it's feeding."

"The Shagaru Magala feeding on Altair?" Kairo Retsu immediately grasped the implication, and briefly recounted the earlier events to Laios.

"So it already took care of the Gore Magala, and now it's attacking the resurrected Setsuna Shizaki?" Laios began to view the situation from the Shagaru Magala's perspective.

After exhausting itself hunting its kin, the beings most imbued with [conceptual recognition]—Altair and Setsuna Shizaki—had become its next hunting targets…

As the person second only to Kairo Retsu in understanding monsters, Laios took a deep breath and asked:

"Guildmaster… do you think we can successfully 'repel' the Shagaru Magala without any casualties?"

"Repel…" Kairo Retsu gave a bitter smile. "Laios, we really did… underestimate Elder Dragons."
