"I don't know," Vera admitted quietly, her brow knitting together as if she were still trying to make sense of the fragments she had witnessed. "But something tells me that whatever has happened... it has something to do with Daeron."
Silence settled between them and Valerian's jaw tightened, but he did not interrupt her. Whatever she had seen inside that vision had clearly disturbed her more than she wished to admit.
"Right this way."
Vera turned and led them deeper into the castle.
The only sounds filling the passage were hurried footsteps striking ancient stone and the distant crackle of torches mounted upon the walls. The castle suddenly felt larger than it ever had before, every shadow concealing another secret they had failed to uncover.
"This way."
Vera rounded another corner without slowing. The others followed closely behind, unwilling to lose sight of the witch for even a moment.
