Chapter 779 - Chapter 778 Max: I Feel Like a Jinx

Misdreavus was hit by the Ice Beam. The beam went from its front to its back. Many scars appeared on its body, but it did not stop. It kept moving toward Glalie.

This made Natsui more sure about Katie's plan.

The plan was very clear.

However, Ash still did not understand Katie's plan. He did not know the most scary ability of Ghost-type Pokémon. Ash saw a good chance. He only thought about using this rare moment. He did not wait. He told Glalie to use Headbutt on Misdreavus.

Glalie ran fast with all its power and hit Misdreavus hard. Misdreavus did not move out of the way. It was hit directly!

Bang!

The people were far from the field, but they heard the hit clearly.

Misdreavus was hit in the head by the big force. It fell backward. But, right before it hit the ground, its eyes suddenly turned purple and glowed!

This light was very fast. It was hard to see if you did not look closely. After the purple light went away, Misdreavus hit the ground. Its eyes went up. It could not battle anymore.

Ash saw this. He thought he was lucky and won easily. He raised his right hand and cheered. He was happy because he won two rounds in a row!

But a second later, the purple light came out of Misdreavus's eyes. It hit Glalie's eyes. Glalie was in the air. Suddenly, it looked like it was in pain. It fell from the sky and hit the ground. It also could not battle!

"What!?"

Ash saw this and was very surprised. He did not know why this happened. He was confused. Then, the announcer's voice came from the field.

"Misdreavus is unable to battle! Glalie is unable to battle! This match is a draw!"

In the stands, May looked confused by the result. With her experience, she did not understand what happened.

"Why did Glalie fall too? Wasn't Misdreavus already defeated?"

Max pushed his glasses up. He was not sure, but he said: "It should have used Destiny Bond, right?"

Max guessed the name, but he was not 100% sure. He knew many things from books, but it takes time to learn them in real life. Also, some moves look the same. It was hard to tell from just a flash of light.

"That's right, it was Destiny Bond." Natsui nodded and said Max was right. He explained: "This is a Ghost-type move. It takes the enemy down with the user. If the user faints from a move, the attacker faints too. It is a move that trades one Pokémon for another."

"It's that powerful?" May said in surprise. "Then can't you easily take out an opponent by using this move?"

"You can't really say that," Natsui smiled. "This move has many limits. For example, it fails if you use it many times in a row. Also, the enemy must attack right after you use it. Some strong Trainers can see the trick easily. But it is still very powerful. It can change a battle when you are fighting a very strong enemy!"

Natsui never fought someone who used Destiny Bond against him. But he was right. Some Trainers make it too obvious. He saw Katie's plan immediately. If Katie fought him, she would not win like that. It worked because she was fighting Ash.

Only strong Trainers with Ghost-type Pokémon use Destiny Bond perfectly. But if you fight someone like that, you must be careful.

It sounds strong, but it is not easy to use.

Brock touched his chin. He thought it was strange. "But why did Katie use this move? Even if it was to change her rhythm, a one-for-one trade isn't really a gain..."

It was surprising to trade Misdreavus for Glalie. People were talking about it. But did it really help her?

"She probably has her own reasons," Natsui said. He did not know Katie's thoughts. "Maybe her other Pokémon could not beat that Ice-type Pokémon. So, she used Misdreavus to trade. Or, Katie thought Glalie was Ash's best Pokémon. She wanted to beat it quickly."

He could only guess her plan. Only Katie knew the truth.

Ash's third Pokémon was defeated. It was time for a break. Katie still had more Pokémon. She was leading by one.

Natsui tried to take some popcorn. But the bag was empty. He looked at May. She was eating them one by one.

May looked at Natsui. She was confused. She did not know she ate Natsui's snacks.

Fine.

He let her eat.

The short break ended quickly.

The Trainers rested. Then, the computer chose the Water Field for the second half of the battle between Ash and Katie.

This was good for Ash. His Corphish was very strong. The field would help it use its power better!

The second half started. Ash sent out Corphish. Katie sent out the Golduck that did well before.

The two Pokémon attacked each other. They were equal at first. But Katie saw how Ash attacked. Golduck used Psychic. It trapped Corphish in the air!

Golduck threw Corphish into the water. But Corphish found a chance. It came out of the water behind Golduck. It hit Golduck hard!

Now, the battle was better for Ash.

The two Pokémon fought closely again. Corphish grabbed Golduck's claws. It threw Golduck away. Then, it used Bubble Beam. Golduck was defeated!

This match was not one-sided. It was a back-and-forth fight!

In the end, Ash's Corphish did a great job. Ash won the battle.

"Finally, it's a tie," Max said with a sigh of relief. "Now the situation is back to the same starting line."

"It's more than that," Natsui smiled. "Ash is a momentum-type Trainer. Once he gets a victory, the next part will be in his rhythm."

Corphish waved its claws proudly. Katie looked a bit worried, but it was hard to see.

She took a Poké Ball and sent out Venomoth. Ash called Corphish back. He sent out Swellow. They would fight in the air.

People say Swellow always takes an enemy down with it.

It is a joke, but it shows Swellow is strong. In this match, Ash used type advantages. He used the Flying-type Swellow against the Bug-type Venomoth. This was rare for him!

Ash did a good job. He showed his skill. Venomoth used Disable. It stopped one of Swellow's moves. But Swellow was stronger. It beat Venomoth quickly.

The score was three to four. Ash won another round!

On the large screen, Katie looked worried. She was not "Cool" anymore.

Ash was winning. He did not switch Pokémon. Katie used her fifth Poké Ball.

A Scizor appeared in front of Swellow.

"Scizor?" May asked in confusion. "Isn't it a Bug-type Pokémon like Venomoth just now? Is it a good choice to face a natural enemy like the Flying-type Swellow?"

"It's true that Flying is strong against Bug," Natsui nodded. Then he shook his head. "But that only applies to normal Bug-type Pokémon. Scizor is a Bug and Steel-type. Flying-type Pokémon cannot deal much effective damage to Steel-type Pokémon."

May looked at Scizor. Its body looked like steel. A bird's beak would hurt if it hit that...

The battle started. Both used Quick Attack. They were very fast. They hit each other many times. But they were equal.

They changed their moves. They used Double Team. They were still equal!

Finally, Swellow used Aerial Ace. It found a small opening. It beat Scizor!

Swellow gave Ash two wins. It was very strong.

Natsui smiled.

He thought Ash might become a Flying-type Master in the future!

What about himself?

Natsui had a Scizor too. He thought Katie's Scizor was good, but his was better. It lost because it stopped its clones first. That was a mistake.

The score was three to five. Katie was in trouble. If she lost one more time, she would lose the match.

Katie sent out her last Pokémon.

A blue light flashed. A Walrein appeared in the water.

Walrein roared loudly.

"Oh? That's some good spirit." Natsui looked at the others and smiled. "It looks like this Walrein is Katie's ace Pokémon."

"Eh? Her ace Pokémon?"

"That's right." Misty agreed. She was a Water-type Trainer. "It looks very strong. It has good muscles. It has a strong aura. It is a powerful Pokémon!"

Max and the others believed them.

"I don't care if it's an ace or not," Max laughed. "Besides Swellow, Ash has two other Pokémon left. Even if he just uses them one after another, he can beat it. There's nothing to worry about."

...

"Corphish is unable to battle! The winner is Walrein!!"

The announcer shouted. Max was shocked. He could not believe it!

Max said Ash could not lose. But Walrein beat Swellow and Corphish one by one.

Max thought he was a jinx!

The good situation suddenly turned bad.

In the field, Ash's face also looked very bad.

One opponent beat two of his Pokémon.

He did not expect Walrein to be so powerful. It beat Swellow and Corphish easily.

Swellow and Corphish were tired, but Walrein was still strong.

Walrein was not hurt!

But Ash had one last Pokémon. He would try his best!

He gritted his teeth and threw his final Poké Ball.
