Chapter 27 - The Prize Of Madness

Fog

Elyon kept this information from Eve after the manual rewiring of his brain. His vision didn't turn back to normal; he could barely see a few meters in front of him. His stunt didn't come without drawbacks. He had severe brain damage.

"Elyon? Are you even listening?"

Those words managed to wake him up a bit. He looked back at Eve, but he only saw a blurry silhouette.

"Yeah, I'm listening."

Eve scoffed and began to stomp away. "I can't believe we were kicked out of the restaurant just because we are drenched in blood. We have money; who cares about how we are dressed?"

Restaurant? Kicked out? What is she even talking about?... Oh, right, we got kicked out. Why did I forget it?... Stop being foolish and deal with it.

His adrenaline from all that had happened had finally left his body the moment they entered the restaurant. As they walked back towards their training grounds, Elyon changed his irises to the number "4", and suddenly he could see the world around him again. But a sharp pain shot through his brain, and that pain didn't go away. So long as he wanted to see, he had to feel the agony.

Elyon blinked.

He was in front of his house, talking with someone he didn't know. Eve was next to him as well, but how had they gotten to his house so fast?

"I decided I didn't want to wait for you two at my destination, so I came straight to your house," the stranger said.

Elyon blinked.

And he was back on the road, with Eve currently yelling at him because of something he had done.

"I told you a million times, be careful when you walk! You killed that poor ant for no reason at all. Did changing a whole day fry your brain?"

What?

Elyon just stared at her; he couldn't speak. Eve bent down and scooped up the ant Elyon had killed. She held it for a moment, then buried it gently in the grass.

What the fuck is going on?

Nightfall awoke, whispering to itself. "Biological and spiritual, heart and brain. Both were born from the same leaf. Time will take until you two bloom into new someones, yet the changes are happening sooner than expected."

Elyon shook his head, trying desperately to regain some semblance of self. "Right, sorry. I didn't mean to; it won't happen again."

Eve straightened up. "That's alright, don't worry about it. I hope you have some food at our training grounds. Also, come on, I'm tired, and I want to sleep."

Elyon nodded without a care in the world. "Oh, don't you worry, my dear student; I still have some leftovers."

Eve looked a bit disgusted. "Leftovers? Haven't they already gone bad?"

Elyon shrugged. "A little mold didn't kill anyone."

Eve sighed. "You will be the one to stuff all that mold in your mouth. No, now that I think about it, I will force you to."

Elyon stared back at her. "You are so right; I will find something better for us to eat."

After about an hour, they finally reached Elyon's house. Someone was waiting for them.

It was a man with long grey hair tied in a bun and striking green eyes. His face was covered in stubble. His hair may have been grey, but for whatever reason, he didn't look old. The man was dressed in a simple grey tunic and pants of the same colour. At his hip rested two hunting daggers.

The man looked at the two of them, then quickly averted his gaze towards the ground. "I, uhm..."

Eve was the first to speak up. "Who are you? And what do you want?"

The man spoke, clearly shy. "My name is Vigil and, uhm... I am hungry. I was just going from destination to destination, and I saw you two weren't home, so I waited for you to... come back." Vigil rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, completely flustered.

Eve burst out laughing. "Alright, alright, we can give you some food." She poked Elyon with her elbow. "This guy has a ton of food in his house, isn't that right?"

Elyon looked at Eve, then back at Vigil. "Yeah, sure, man, we have some food. My name is Elyon, and she is... Eve."

Vigil beamed with happiness the moment they both accepted him. "Thank you so much, you two have no idea how much you've helped me. I could've starved out there."

Eve nodded. "I get you. Now come on inside. I want to sleep already."

They entered the house. The two of them became three. And an unbreakable bond was going to form.

Did I say three? I meant six.
