The city didn't sleep that night.
Neither did Li Zhenkai.
The Poem
His office was quiet, too quiet.
The kind of silence that followed chaos.
The award ceremony had ended hours ago, but the aftershocks were still rippling through the media, through the company, through every layer of his carefully controlled world.
On his desk sat a single book.
To Love, To Lose, To Heal.
He hadn't placed it there.
He didn't need to ask who did.
"…Assistant Chen," he muttered.
As if summoned, there was a soft knock.
"You called, President Li?"
Zhenkai didn't look up immediately. His fingers brushed over the cover of the book, slow, deliberate.
"You left this here."
"Yes, sir," Chen replied. "I thought you might want to… understand her better."
He paused then, carefully
Zhenkai opened the book.
The pages were marked. Folded, worn and
Not pristine but owned
His gaze landed on a line,
"Some souls break gracefully. She shattered beautifully."
Something in his chest shifted.
It was Subtle and Quiet.
But undeniable.
So he read it again.
And again.
"…Beautifully," he repeated under his breath.
Assistant Chen hesitated. "Sir?"
Zhenkai closed the book slowly.
"You may leave."
"Yes, sir."
The door clicked shut.
Silence returned.
But it wasn't empty anymore.
The Weight of It
He leaned back in his chair, closing his eyes briefly.
That line,
It wasn't just poetry.
It was her.
The chaos.
The danger.
The way she kept breaking, even while the world torh her apart, she still stood back up like nothing could keep her down.

Across the room, Qin Yuze's voice broke the silence.
"I traced the supply chain for the pen."
Zhenkai's eyes opened instantly.
"And?"
Yuze turned his laptop toward him. "Custom-made trigger mechanism, it had Imported parts and it's expensive."
Jainyu frowned. "So not random."
"Not even close," Yuze replied. "Whoever's behind this has money, connections… and patience."
Zixuan leaned forward. "And motive?"
Yuze tapped the screen again.
A name appeared.
Zhou Meili.
The room went still.
Jainyu let out a low whistle. "…That escalated quickly."
Zixuan frowned. "She's ambitious, sure. But attempted murder?"
Yuze shook his head. "She's the surface. Not the source."
Zhenkai's gaze darkened. "Explain."
"She's being backed," Yuze said calmly. "Someone bigger. Someone who benefits from chaos around Jiang Yue."
Jainyu crossed his arms. "So we're dealing with a hidden player."
Zhenkai stood up slowly but anyone who knew him could see he was Dangerous and still brewing danger within.
"Then we find them."
Meanwhile…
Jiang Yue sat alone in her apartment.
The award rested on her table.
Untouched, and Uncelebrated
Her fingers trembled slightly as she stared at nothing.
The red carpet.
The dress.
The poison.
It all replayed in her mind.
Over and over.
Her breath hitched.
"…I almost died again."

[System Tone: softer] Host…
She shook her head. "No, I'm fine. I'm always fine."
Her voice cracked.
"I survive. That's what I do."
But survival…
Was getting exhausting.
Her hands curled into fists.
"What if one day I don't?"
Silence.
Even the system didn't answer immediately.
The door opened.
She didn't turn.
She knew who it was.
"…You didn't knock," she said weakly.
"I didn't need to."
His voice.
Was low and steady, it was still the familiar voice she knew that quieted her storms.
Zhenkai stepped inside, his gaze locking onto her instantly.
And he saw it.
The cracks.
The fear she tried so hard to hide.
"You're shaking," he said quietly.
"I'm not," she whispered.
"You are."
That was all it took.
Her composure shattered.
"I almost drank it," she said suddenly. "If I hadn't moved, if I didn't ?"
Her voice broke completely.
"I don't want to die again."
The words hung in the air.
Zhenkai didn't hesitate.
He crossed the distance between them in seconds.
Pulled her into his arms and held her tight, so tight, her face pressed against his chest as her shoulders shook.
"I know," he said softly.
Her fingers clutched his shirt.
"I'm scared," she admitted.
"I know."
His hand moved to the back of her head, holding her closer.
"…I won't let anything happen to you."
"You can't promise that," she whispered.
"I can," he said.
She pulled back slightly, looking up at him.
"…How?"
His gaze didn't waver.
"Because I'll destroy anything that tries."
There was No hesitation and no doubt, in his tone.

[System Note: This is not logical. This is absolute.]
She leaned into him again, quieter this time.
"…You read my book?" she asked softly.
A pause.
"Yes."
"…And?"
His hand tightened slightly against her back.
"There's a line," he said.
Her breath stilled.
"'Some souls break gracefully. She shattered beautifully.'"
Her eyes widened slightly.
"You read that one."
"I did."
Silence stretched between them.
Then
"…It's about you, isn't it?" he said quietly.
Her lips parted.
She didn't answer.
She didn't need to.
Outside, the city lights flickered.
Inside, the world narrowed to just the two of them.
Zhenkai tilted her chin up slightly.
"Listen to me," he said.
Her heart pounded.
"You don't have to survive alone anymore."
Her breath caught.
"I'm here," he continued. "And I'm not going anywhere."
Her eyes burned.
"…You say that now."
"I'll say it again tomorrow."
"…And the next day?"
"Every day."
Her voice trembled. "Until when?"
His answer was immediate.
"Until you believe it."
Tears slipped down her cheeks.
But this time
They weren't from fear.
Later that night
Jiang Yue sat quietly, the award finally in her hands.
Her reflection stared back at her from its surface, she looked messy and tired but at least she was alive

She exhaled slowly.
"…I'm still here."
[System: And you will be.]
Across the city
Zhenkai stood by his window, phone in hand.
"Find them," he said coldly. "Whoever's behind this."
He paused and
Then, quieter he said
"And end it."
