"Alpha Flowerew! I'm here to see him," Michelle said to the guards at the gate.
She'd been standing here for more than an hour, trying to talk some sense into the two guards that stood at the gate.
"And why would a rogue want to meet our Alpha?" One of them asked, laughing.
"Tell him that Michelle Greene is at the gate. He knows me, and I need to talk with him right now!"
"We don't negotiate with rogues!" The other one said, also laughing.
Michelle had told Rodriguez everything from what actually happened that day to her parents to the questions that were brought forward by Arya.
"I need to find out the truth. Only Alfa can tell me the actual truth, therefore I need to visit him!" She told Rodriguez.
He slowly nodded, and Michelle had arrived here by late afternoon. It was getting dark, but Alfa hadn't shown up.
"If not him, call Trevor or Ronald. They both know me and even old luna Genevieve knows me. I need to talk to your Alpha," Michelle tried again, but her words fell on deaf ears.
The air was changing, and it seemed like it would rain, but these guards didn't care.
"Tell Alfa that his informer is here, and I have some very important information to share with him!" Michelle said, hoping this would work.
"Listen, rogue! We do not take orders from you... but if you don't leave, we will definitely take something else from you..." Both guards were staring her up and down like hungry dogs.
By their scent, Michelle knew they both were unmated wolves, and she also knew that these wolves were very dangerous, and since she was unmarked and alone, she would become fair game.
"Fine. But tell your Alpha that Michelle showed up, and you chased her away! Then we'll see what happens to who!"
Michelle turned around and began walking away when she heard Ronald's voice, "... yes, and I'll tell him... yeah, we'll be going..."
Michelle turned around and saw him talking on the phone, and she called out at the top of her voice, "Ronald!"
Ronald turned to look at her, just as the guards were pushing her away from the gates and trying to restrain her.
"Hey, wait!" The guards froze as the commanding voice of their beta rang in the air. "What's going on?"
He saw Michelle and quickly ordered the men to let her go. "Michelle? What are you doing here?" He asked when she was free.
"I needed to talk with Alfa, and its urgent," she replied. "And these pathetic loosers wouldn't even call him, or you, or Trevor!" She said again, looking at the guards, who had their heads hung low.
"Why wasn't the Alpha notified about her arrival?" Ronald asked the guards, who didn't have any answer.
"I'll deal with you later," he said, staring at the gatekeeper. Then, turning to Michelle, told her to follow him.
He mindlinked Alfa on the way, and he was already expecting great news.
"Mishie, you should have called!" Alfa said as she entered the meeting area. "How did you reach here?
"I couldn't call... you know why. And I needed to ask you something alone," she said, looking around at Ronald and Trevor standing there.
"Mishie, you can ask anything in front of them. You know they're my most trusted, right."
Michelle didn't like the answer, but she had no choice. She looked at the men, then back at the alpha sitting on his chair.
Her stomach twisted inside her, and she felt sick. Today, she would know the truth, but there was a high chance he wouldn't tell.
"Mishie?" Alfa's voice pulled her back from her overthinking.
He stared at her for a long moment, and something passed on his face. A sort of guilt flashed through his eyes but only for a second.
"Alfa, I need to know what happened that day. How were you able to kill a rogue wolf?"
Alfa sat staring at her, his eyes wide. He had never expected this question to come, and why on earth would Michelle ask this now?
"Mishie, why are you asking this now?" Alfa asked, his eyes locked on hers.
"Because it doesn't make sense. You were eight! You still hadn't gotten your wolf, and yet you were able to defeat him? How?" Michelle asked, holding eye contact.
"Well... because he was wounded... it was easy ..." Alfa stammered.
The air grew warm. Michelle knew by the way he was talking that he was lying. He had for a second forgotten that she too was a wolf, and his heart skipped a beat.
"Alfa, tell me how exactly did you kill him?" Michelle asked again.
"I saved your life, and this is the repayment I'm getting? You're questioning me?" Alfa shouted, standing up and pointing at her.
Michelle instantly knew what this meant, and she lowered her eyes. She didn't want to challenge an Alpha in his own pack, but she knew that whatever Arya had questioned was legit.
Alfa was lying.
He didn't save her that day, and she would find out the truth, but right now, she needed to get out safely.
"I'm sorry," she forced the words out of her mouth.
"If you have nothing else to ask, you can leave," Alfa said dismissively.
Michelle, without another word, turned around and left. Ronald and Trevor stood staring.
The whole world around Michelle had shaken, and a huge tsunami was on its way. She lived a lie all her life, and now, the lie had shattered, and she needed to find out everything. Every truth.
She walked to the gate, head still low, eyes staring on the ground, not because she was ashamed but because she didn't want anyone to see the rage brewing deep in her heart.
Arya! She's the only one who can help her. She had told her to reach out via mindlink if she needed her. Yes, she needed her!
'Arya? Please pick me up from here!'
'On my way.' Arya replied.
"Here she is... the rogue!" Michelle heard one guard say.
"The beta told us off because of her... maybe we need to teach her a lesson," added the other.
The fire that burnt inside Michelle was ready to spill out in the open. Her breathing got high, and she looked up at them with a look that dared them to try.
"Hey, stay away from her unless you want to answer to the Alpha," Trevor said from behind her.
Michelle turned. Trevor was standing meters away from them, looking flushed. "Did you know?" Michelle asked him.
"No. I just knew that he had gone hunting in that area and found you unconscious," came the reply.
"Are you following me?"
"Alfa wanted to make sure you would do the job you were sent to do, or he would tell Rodriguez that you're the real mole," Trevor said uncomfortably.
So this was everything for him. The job. "Tell Alfa I know where my loyalty lies. I'll finish what I started."
