The group returned home. Mother-in-law Ruth was in excellent spirits. After taking a look inside the refrigerator, she said, "There are still a few side dishes left, and there's also some roasted chicken from the evening offerings or something like that. Which one of you wants to eat it?"
"Someone wants to eat, her stomach is growling, she's going to wash up first."
Nancy also went upstairs to freshen up and change clothes in a wonderfully cheerful mood.
Ruth then busied herself, arranging the late night snack with exceptional wifely virtue and efficiency.
Seeing Arthur standing in front of the liquor cabinet, she snapped at him with ill temper, "She's waiting on her son in law, not on you. Are you a dead man or what? Can't you even get the bowls?"
Her attitude toward her father in law remained perpetually harsh. Arthur was not a man without a temper.
