Chapter 255 - Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Ten Meters [255]

Kitasan Black's "taking care of him" did not end there.

After getting dressed came breakfast.

When they came out of the bedroom, a nutritious breakfast was already laid out on the dining table.

There were golden-fried eggs, toast browned just right with jam to go with it, freshly boiled vegetables, a steaming glass of milk, and cut fruit set off to the side.

Kitasan Black had not been learning to cook from Oguri Cap for all that long, but her skills were already quite impressive.

For simple dishes like omurice, fried rice, and ramen, she was already on par with the head chefs of many big restaurants.

As for other, more complicated dishes, she could not quite reach that same level, but they still turned out delicious.

This breakfast in front of him happened to be exactly the kind of simple fare she was best at, so even before sitting down, Yasui Makoto could already smell the enticing aroma.

"Trainer, hurry and eat. The better your nutrition, the faster you'll recover."

Kitasan Black sat down at the table too. As she smiled and spoke, she kept her eyes fixed on him without blinking, spoon in hand, looking ready to feed him at any moment.

...This couldn't be another one of Dia-chan's suggestions, could it...?

Thinking that with a mix of helplessness and amusement, Yasui Makoto picked up his own spoon and started on breakfast.

But he had barely taken a bite when Kitasan Black said,

"Trainer, this egg is really nutritious, so you should eat more."

As she spoke, she picked up an egg and placed it in Yasui Makoto's bowl.

"Oh—right, I haven't peeled it yet..."

She quickly took the egg back, peeled it, and put it into his bowl again.

Then she picked up a slice of toast and carefully spread it with jam.

"This bread is really good with this jam too. Dia-chan and I went out specially to buy it last night."

Yasui Makoto felt less like he was eating breakfast and more like he was undergoing some kind of "food baptism."

Throughout the entire meal, he had no idea how much he actually ate. All he knew was that Kitasan Black kept putting food into his bowl until it was piled up like a little mountain.

...Is she taking me for Oguri Cap? It's not like I have an appetite that ridiculous...

Though, honestly, it still wasn't all that much.

Smiling to himself, Yasui Makoto finished breakfast.

He had just accepted the tissue Kitasan Black handed him and wiped his mouth when, before he could say anything, she leaned in eagerly and said,

"We can leave the dishes until we get back. I'll clean them up."

"For now, let's go to the hospital, okay, Trainer?"

"The hospital?"

Yasui Makoto froze for a moment, then instinctively glanced at his casted left arm and laughed helplessly.

"I already went for an examination last night, and Teio-kaichou came with me too."

"You're not actually saying you don't even trust the president's judgment, are you?"

Kitasan Black blinked, then hurriedly waved both hands.

"Of course I trust her! But after Tachyon-senpai heard you were injured, she insisted that you absolutely had to come see her too."

After explaining that, she hesitated, then went on, "If you're not feeling well, Trainer, we can go a little later..."

"No! If you really are feeling unwell, then that's exactly why we need to go right now!"

The more she spoke, the more anxious she became.

She walked over looking as though she were about to start checking him all over, saying in a rush,

"Trainer, where do you feel bad? Let's go to the hospital, okay?"

Yasui Makoto was stunned for a second, then hastily stepped back and instinctively waved his right hand.

"W-wait, I'm not feeling unwell anywhere... no, aside from my left arm, I feel perfectly fine, you... you can stop coming closer first..."

Thinking quickly, he hurriedly added, "Then let's just go see Doctor Tachyon right now and have her take a look. That, um... honestly, would make me feel more at ease too."

When Yasui Makoto stepped back, Kitasan Black froze as well, her ears drooping slightly.

But after hearing the rest, she brightened up at once.

"Mhm! Then let's head out right away—I already have a car ready!"

"O-okay... wait."

Yasui Makoto nodded instinctively, then paused.

"A car... ready?"

Kitasan Black nodded hard, her eyes shining with expectation.

"Yep! I specially asked my family's driver to come over so he could take you to the hospital safely and quickly, Trainer."

"He's Grandpa's regular driver, and he's really good."

"Oh, right—Grandpa heard you were hurt too. At first, he wanted to arrange for someone to come take care of you, and he wanted to come himself too."

"But I told him I could take care of you just fine, and since you'd been busy with the Arima Kinen up until now, I told Grandpa he should come by later instead. What you need most right now is proper rest, Trainer."

Hearing that, Yasui Makoto smiled in stunned disbelief and helpless amusement.

Kitasan Black's way of taking care of people really was getting more and more over the top—but at the same time, a wave of warmth rose in his chest.

Following Kitasan Black, who was both careful and visibly full of enthusiasm, he made his way to the entrance of the apartment building, where a black luxury sedan was parked steadily outside.

Kitasan Black hurried ahead, opened the car door for him, and gestured him inside like a diligent little attendant.

Yasui Makoto let out a small laugh and got in. The soft seat immediately conformed to his body, and the car's interior was understated but elegant, with a faint fragrance in the air.

Kitasan Black got in right after him. She carefully glanced at his casted left arm, then gave the driver a few simple instructions from the front row, and the car slowly pulled away.

During the ride, Kitasan Black kept her eyes fixed on Yasui Makoto and checked on him every so often.

"Trainer, is the seat comfortable? Do you need me to adjust it? Do you want some water? I think Grandpa keeps drinks in the fridge in here..."

As she said that, she leaned toward the driver's side.

Yasui Makoto had not expected this kind of car to come with its own refrigerator. He stared in surprise for a moment, then quickly shook his head with an amused smile.

"No, really, no need. I'm not thirsty. And also... Kita-chan, you don't have to be this nervous."

"O-oh... okay..."

Kitasan Black nodded a little dejectedly and sat back down, only to resume asking after him in concern a moment later.

Yasui Makoto was bombarded with questions so quickly he could only keep answering one after another.

"I'm fine, really. Kita-chan... you really don't have to be so tense."

The car arrived at the hospital very soon after.

Just like when he had gotten in, Kitasan Black hurried out first and opened the car door for Yasui Makoto.

Inside the hospital lobby, as if she had rehearsed it all beforehand, she led him straight toward Agnes Tachyon's department with practiced familiarity.

Along the way, nurses and doctors passing by all turned to look at them—the deeply anxious yet utterly serious Umamusume, and the young man with his arm in a cast, wearing a helpless but touched smile.

When they reached the door to Agnes Tachyon's office, Kitasan Black took a deep breath and knocked. After hearing a "Come in" from inside, she carefully pushed the door open and led Yasui Makoto in as though supporting him.

Behind the desk, Agnes Tachyon was flipping through a stack of documents.

When she saw Yasui Makoto and Kitasan Black enter, she set the papers down and swept a faintly amused gaze over the two of them.

"A trainer suffering a fracture during a race is the first I've heard of... no, actually, there was a case before, but it's certainly quite rare."

Then she turned to Kitasan Black.

"Still, in the previous case, there wasn't a little nurse nearly this dedicated."
