Chapter 262 - Chapter 262 Blacklight

[Ding! Villain Ally 'Alex' successfully recruited!]

[Character Source: "Prototype"]

[Character Ability: Blacklight Virus]

...

Virus?

Jason glanced at the transparent light screen, his heart piqued with curiosity. Enhancing the body, absorbing and devouring, claws and blades… all of this was the work of a virus. How interesting; Dr. Sterns now had one more subject worth investigating.

Manufacturing an energy sphere to wrap Alex inside, the two of them shot into the sky, flying back to a stronghold in New York.

"Boss!" The guards at the base bowed respectfully.

Jason nodded. "Take me to the cells."

"Yes, sir!" The guard stole a glance at Alex. The man was a bloody mess, his limbs severed—he wondered if this was the Boss's enemy.

The three arrived at the base's prison block, which held nearly a hundred inmates, mostly police officers, detectives, soldiers, and agents captured by the organization.

Jason asked, "I watched your fight. It seems you can recover and grow stronger by devouring humans, right?"

"Yes, Boss." Alex was suspended in the air by the energy sphere; because his body was missing so much flesh and blood, he couldn't repair himself.

With a wave of his hand, Jason sent him into a cell. "These prisoners are all yours."

The energy sphere dissolved, and Alex tumbled to the floor, startling the sleeping inmates.

"Oh my God!" The prisoners cried out, shrinking into the corners of the cell, staring at the newcomer with terrified eyes. Seeing Alex covered in blood, they initially felt a flicker of sympathy, assuming he was another law enforcement officer captured by Jason.

Alex stared back at them, his expression like that of a man who hadn't eaten in three days staring at pork.

Jason pulled out his phone and started an internal video conference. None of his associates were sleeping.

Harley: Honey, is something up?

Franklin: Boss, you're up late. Do you like livestreaming prisoner abuse now?

David: Shut up. Is the Boss really that bored?

Ignoring their chatter, Jason said, "Weren't you all asking to meet the new associate? Here he is." He adjusted the camera for a close-up.

A-Train: Impressive. Still alive with all four limbs chopped off.

John: Boss, did you do that to him?

Jason: No. He was a bit too ambitious for a rookie. He took on Captain America solo and got schooled three times.

Stansfield (clapping): Gutsy. If it were me, I definitely wouldn't dare fight a WWII hero.

Christine: Jason, do you need me to treat him? If I leave now, I can be in New York by morning. Hope it's not too late.

Jason shook his head with a mysterious smile. "Alex, please, start your performance."

The group chat went silent instantly, everyone watching intently. Alex turned his head toward the prisoners huddled in the corner, his bloodlust and fanaticism completely naked.

Swish!

Several thick blood vessels shot out, instantly impaling the chests of five prisoners.

"AAAAAH!"

After a moment of stunned silence, ear-piercing screams filled the cell block. The associates' eyes widened, terrified of missing a single detail. The vessels contracted violently, dragging the prisoners toward Alex until they were fused against him. A massive amount of thick, red viscous matter erupted from the prisoners' bodies, wrapping them in a cocoon that rapidly merged into Alex.

The prisoners' bodies shrank smaller and smaller. Within ten seconds, all five had been devoured.

As the red slime vanished, Alex's severed limbs had completely grown back. He had been severely injured in the previous fight, and five people weren't nearly enough to satisfy him. He stood up immediately and moved toward the remaining prisoners.

The associates were dumbstruck. Even as superpowered individuals, this was the first time they had witnessed such a scene.

Harley: Honey... is that a superpower?

Jason: No. Alex has something called the 'Blacklight' virus in his body. Everything is a gift from the virus. He doesn't need to train; he grows stronger simply by devouring humans. Beyond that, he can shapeshift into others and acquire their entire memories.

Stansfield: My God, that virus is incredible. Boss, this is worth serious research. Do you need me to use the SHIELD internal network to find some experts in this field?

Jason: Of course. Cell biology and virology are different fields; Dr. Sterns might not be able to handle it alone, and he already has a heavy workload.

Christine: Now that the new associate is found, are you leaving for a while?

Jason: Correct. A new base needs to be established on the African continent. I'm leaving the day after tomorrow at the latest. I'll be there for about a month.

John: Boss, do you need our help?

David: There's no SHIELD in Africa, and no superheroes. The Boss can walk all over that place.

Jason (nodding): There aren't many strong enemies there. As long as I hide the base location and Chloe keeps an eye on the Pentagon to make sure they don't launch any nukes.

Chloe: You can rest easy on that, Sir.

Jason: After I leave, the New York headquarters can't be left unattended. Alex is too weak and unfamiliar with our affairs. Who's interested in filling in?

Franklin: Boss, I—

Harley (interrupting): Honey, let me! I want to see my son anyway.

Christine: I'm going too!

Jason: Fine. It's settled. Meeting adjourned.

A few days later, another tragedy struck Manhattan. The scent of blood hung so heavy in the air it could be smelled several blocks away.

SHIELD Headquarters lost contact with the field command center. Realizing something had gone horribly wrong, they immediately dispatched reinforcements. The first to arrive were 20 Iron Soldiers from the New York branch. They stood at the scene, speechless with shock.

Over a thousand personnel—soldiers, police, and agents—had been assigned to this case. All thousand of them were dead. Every single one killed in a single strike. Most chillingly, not a single one had managed to send out a distress signal before they died.

Who was it? Who had such terrifying capability? Even if they didn't want to think about it, that man's name and face quietly surfaced in their minds.

"Director, over a thousand dead at the scene... It has to be the Joker organization. Captain America hasn't been found... neither has the prisoner."

"I understand," Fury's voice crackled. "The military will handle the search and rescue. You must find the Captain. I want him found, alive or dead."

"Understood!"

The Iron Soldiers fanned out. Their suits were equipped with advanced search and rescue sensors. Minutes later, they finally found the Captain on the brink of death.

Steve had been blasted away by Jason, his body smashing through a building like a cannonball. He had crashed through three floors before collapsing into the rubble. When they found him, he had multiple fractures and massive blood loss; his heartbeat was barely a whisper.

The Iron Soldiers rushed him to a major New York hospital for emergency surgery. Even Fury was shaken enough to travel personally from Washington D.C. to visit.
