(The silence Ahmed left behind was not ordinary...)
It was a silence... in which something ended.
And in which something else was born.
Honoka stopped crying for a moment, as if she felt a certain change. Her little sister was still clinging to her, her small fingers gripping her clothes tightly, as if she were afraid of being taken away from her.
Misaki looked at Ahmed.
She knew this look.
She knew... that he had made his decision.
Ahmed took a step. Then another. He stood before Honoka and her little sister. Just one look... then he spoke. In a calm voice—but one that accepted no hesitation:
Ahmed:
"Alright..."
Misaki's breath hitched.
"If this is your family..."
He looked for a moment at the door behind them... then he returned his eyes to them.
"Then you will not be alone anymore."
Honoka's eyes widened. As if she couldn't believe it.
Ahmed continued, with the same steadiness:
"You will live with me."
...
A moment of silence. But it wasn't just shock... it was a beginning.
Honoka's little sister lifted her head quickly, tears still on her cheeks. Honoka looked at him... with trembling eyes. Fear... hope... disbelief.
Honoka (whispering):
"A... Ahmed..."
But he didn't explain. He didn't retreat. He just... fixed his gaze. Then—he turned slowly. To Misaki.
And here... the firmness faded slightly. And in its place came something deeper. A request. He looked at her sincerely. Without many words. Then he said in a low voice:
Ahmed:
"Misaki..."
Her breath stopped.
"Please..."
This word wasn't weak... but it was sincere.
"I cannot leave them like this."
Silence prevailed. Everything stopped at this moment. Honoka... her little sister... even the air itself. Waiting. For a decision.
Misaki looked at him... then at Honoka. Then at the little child who had not stopped clinging to her sister. Something trembled inside her. This was no longer just a situation... but a responsibility. A whole life... that would change.
She returned her gaze to Ahmed. She saw in him that thing she had known from the beginning... His heart. The heart that cannot ignore the pain.
She was silent. But she did not refuse.
