Chapter 14 - chapter 14 (Dinner Served cold)

I woke up early in the morning, expecting a normal day. It was a cold, chilly week, and a lot had happened. I wished the week could end faster than before.

Then, the doorbell rang.

A call from the gate made me go directly to see who was there. But the fear caused by what had happened recently troubled my mind so much that I hesitated before opening it.

When I finally opened the gate, I found a very beautiful girl standing there with a bag. She was approximately twenty years old.

I asked her gently, "How may I help you, girl?"

A charming voice replied, "I was looking for a house help job, and by God's grace, someone so good like you opened the door for me."

She continued, "In Proverbs 19:17, it says, 'Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord…'"

Before she could finish, Ashley called out, "Dad, I'm ready for school. Remember what I told you yesterday? Jude is already prepared. Today is clinic day."

So, I told the girl to wait a moment after welcoming her into the sitting room.

When she entered, Ashley cleverly asked, "Who is she?"

I said, "She will be our house help. Let me talk with your mom."

I told Ashley, "She is a Christian, and I believe in her."

But Ashley said in a low tone, "I did not hear a Christian with Muslim clothing, Dad. You must have been bewitched by this bitch."

Ashley angrily went to her room. She did not eat breakfast.

I then talked with my wife. She agreed and also told me she had a very big surprise for me.

I happily said, "When I'm done with the kids at school, I will come and spend time with you. Meanwhile, try to talk to Maria, the house help, and show her to her room."

I took the kids, entered my car, and drove them to school.

On the road, a suspicious car was following us.

Fear struck my heart. I took the shortcut route, but the fear only grew stronger. I was even more scared than the children, and I was the one who was supposed to take care of them.

At the school gate, the car was still behind us.

We waited for a few minutes, and surprisingly, they opened the gate.

I was in suspense, wondering who it was.

It was the school MC, or the ceremony director, who was late to start the meeting at school. He greeted us and said he was sorry for terrifying us; he was just late.

I assumed it was a normal thing.

But Ashley saw someone moving on the same door, laughing and saying hi to the kids.

Ashley told me, "Dad, look! Who is that?"

When I looked, I did not see anybody.

I told Ashley, "Nobody can mess with you or greet you without my permission. I'm a whole CEO of different countries."

She said, "But, Dad…"

I told her, "Don't 'Dad' me. You are just tired. Remember to wash your face again in the washroom."

Hurriedly, we entered the school gate.
