Chapter 435 - Chapter 313

The cavern beneath the Shadow Sect's mountain no longer resembled architecture built by human hands. The hanging bridges that once connected the towering black structures swayed violently above the abyss while entire sections of stone tore free from the walls and disappeared into the boiling tar below. Cracks spread continuously across the cavern floor, glowing not with magma or spiritual fire but with warped abyssal light that pulsed unevenly beneath the stone like veins carrying something diseased through the mountain itself. The air had become difficult to breathe. Not because of smoke alone, though black mist flooded every corner of the cavern, but because the laws governing the space itself no longer behaved naturally. Light bent sideways across the walls. Echoes arrived before sound. Gravity shifted unpredictably beneath collapsing platforms while freed disciples clung desperately to chains and fractured bridges trying to keep themselves from being dragged into the pits below.

At the center of the destruction, the Shadow Sect high elder no longer looked remotely human.

His body had swollen grotesquely beneath layers of hardened tar that spread across his flesh in jagged plates resembling armor forged from living corruption. Black sludge leaked constantly from the cracks between those plates while his face twisted further each moment beneath the influence surging through him. One eye had swollen larger than the other. His jaw extended unnaturally beneath shifting layers of abyssal growth. Every breath he took sounded wet and broken, like something drowning while still alive.

The chains Haotian created earlier no longer held.

Fragments of golden bindings drifted apart through the cavern while the elder tore himself upright beneath a surge of abyssal force powerful enough to shake the suspended bridges overhead. Several disciples screamed when the pressure rolled across the cavern because the corruption hidden inside their bodies reacted violently to it. Some collapsed immediately clutching their chests. Others vomited black bile onto the fractured stone beneath them while old whispers tried clawing back into their thoughts.

The transformed elder slammed both fists into the ground.

The cavern floor ruptured instantly.

Not in a single clean eruption, but in dozens of overlapping explosions as massive spikes of shadow burst upward across the battlefield. Jagged pillars of corrupted stone and tar ripped through bridges, towers, and support chains alike while entire sections of the cavern collapsed into the abyss below. One freed Shadow disciple nearly lost his footing when a spike erupted directly beneath the platform he stood on, and only another disciple grabbing his arm kept him from falling into the boiling pits.

Haotian moved through the destruction without rushing.

His feet touched the shattered stone with calm precision while the spikes surging toward him slowed unnaturally before reaching his body. The closer the corrupted laws came toward him, the more unstable they became beneath equilibrium. One spike twisted sideways and shattered apart into black fragments before contact. Another dissolved halfway through its eruption while balanced qi spread outward from Haotian's movements in smooth invisible waves.

The high elder roared.

The sound no longer resembled a human voice.

It rolled through the cavern like grinding stone mixed with animal rage while more tar spilled from the cracks covering his body. He lunged forward heavily enough to shake the remaining bridges overhead.

Haotian reached him in three steps.

No flourish.

No dramatic acceleration.

One moment he stood several dozen meters away. The next, his palm pressed against the elder's chestplate of hardened corruption while equilibrium surged through the black armor in expanding rings.

Cracks spread instantly.

The tar armor groaned like overloaded metal while black sludge burst outward through widening fractures. The elder screamed and swung downward with claws large enough to split stone pillars apart.

Haotian did not retreat.

His hand caught the descending claw mid-swing.

The collision shook the cavern.

Black force rippled violently outward from the impact point while nearby disciples staggered from the pressure alone. The corrupted claw writhed against Haotian's grip while abyssal laws crawled across its surface trying to invade his arm directly.

Then the Dao of Destruction answered.

Haotian's dantian core pulsed once.

The shadow coating covering the claw fractured immediately while the false laws holding it together began unraveling under destruction qi. Bone twisted visibly beneath the elder's arm as cracks spread through the limb itself.

The elder staggered backward roaring.

But even damaged, the corruption flooding through him continued reinforcing his body unnaturally. His remaining arm slammed sideways into Haotian before the destruction could fully spread.

The impact blasted through the cavern.

Haotian's body tore through a massive stone pillar before crashing into the cavern wall hard enough to send cracks racing across the surrounding rock. Dust and debris collapsed from above while several nearby bridges snapped completely beneath the shockwave.

For several breaths, visibility disappeared beneath falling stone dust.

The transformed elder stood breathing heavily amidst the destruction while black sludge continued pouring from the fractures in his armor.

Then movement emerged from the rubble.

Haotian stepped free from the collapsed stone calmly while fragments of broken rock slid from his torn robes. A line of blood marked the corner of his mouth now, but his posture remained steady. Golden light flickered faintly within his eyes while balanced qi continued circulating around him without instability.

Several freed disciples stared openly.

One whispered hoarsely, "He tanked that…"

Haotian wiped the blood from his mouth with the back of one hand before looking toward the corrupted elder again.

"You're strong," he said evenly. "But none of this strength belongs to you."

The elder roared louder.

Not because the words wounded his pride.

Because somewhere beneath the corruption, they struck truth.

The monster hurled both arms outward.

A tidal wave of black sludge exploded across the cavern, swallowing bridges, platforms, and entire towers beneath a flood of abyssal corruption moving faster than falling water. The wave carried warped laws within it. Space bent unevenly across the surface. Sound vanished wherever the sludge passed. Several disciples screamed when fragments of the wave brushed their protective qi and immediately began eating through it.

Haotian's sea of consciousness stirred.

The Dao of Creation ignited.

Light spread from his hands, though not ordinary light. The laws around him began shifting beneath creation itself while new structures formed within the chaos rushing toward him. He reached both palms forward into the approaching tidal wave, and the corruption split apart around his body as though invisible channels had opened through it.

The sludge twisted violently trying to reconnect.

Creation redirected it again.

The wave struck the cavern ceiling instead of the disciples below, splattering black tar across the hanging formations overhead while corrupted rain began dripping downward through the chamber.

Then the Dao of Destruction surged again.

The suspended tar disintegrated before reaching the ground.

Black ash drifted downward harmlessly instead.

The creature screamed.

This time the sound struck through marrow rather than air.

Several disciples collapsed clutching their skulls while blood leaked from their ears. The corruption inside their bodies reacted violently to the sound, trying desperately to reawaken beneath the influence flooding the cavern.

Haotian's heart core pulsed immediately afterward.

The Dao of the Universe expanded outward.

Balance spread through the collapsing cavern while warped gravity stabilized around the surviving disciples. The tremors beneath the mountain weakened. The pressure crushing against the freed cultivators loosened enough for several to breathe properly again.

One disciple stared at Haotian in disbelief.

He wasn't merely fighting the corruption.

He was holding the entire cavern together while doing it.

The elder's transformed body convulsed violently beneath the conflicting laws tearing through it. Tar armor split apart in widening fractures while black sludge poured continuously from his chest and limbs. Yet the corruption inside him fought harder the more it weakened.

The monster lunged again.

Haotian stepped forward instead of backward.

The two collided in the center of the collapsing cavern while destruction, creation, and abyssal force crashed together violently enough to split nearby towers apart. The elder swung repeatedly with monstrous strength, each strike carrying enough force to shatter stone structures surrounding them. Haotian met every blow directly. Sometimes he redirected the force through equilibrium. Sometimes destruction qi unraveled the corruption coating the attacks. Sometimes creation reshaped the laws themselves before impact could fully land.

The cavern continued collapsing around them.

Bridges snapped loose overhead and crashed into the tar pits below. Entire sections of wall peeled away revealing deeper layers of black corruption pulsing within the mountain itself. The surviving disciples struggled desperately to retreat toward stable platforms while maintaining formation barriers against the waves of pressure spreading from the battle.

Then the transformed elder screamed differently.

Not rage.

Pain.

The tar armor covering his chest burst apart while black corruption poured from the opening in steaming waves. His monstrous body convulsed violently before beginning to shrink.

Haotian's three Dao Palaces pulsed together.

Universe anchored.

Creation redirected.

Destruction unraveled.

The corruption inside the elder's body lost cohesion beneath the overlapping force of the three Daos working in harmony. Black sludge erupted from his pores while the monstrous growths covering him cracked apart continuously.

The elder collapsed heavily onto one knee.

His body shrank further.

Tar armor slid from his skin in melting chunks while the abyssal force sustaining his transformation weakened rapidly. Several disciples watched in stunned silence while the towering monster slowly collapsed inward into the shape of a broken old man kneeling amidst rivers of steaming corruption.

His breathing came ragged now.

Human again.

Mostly.

"You…" He coughed violently while black blood splattered across the stone beneath him. "You ripped it out…"

Haotian stood before him breathing steadily despite the destruction surrounding them.

"Your leash is cut," he answered.

The elder laughed weakly.

The sound carried no humor.

"You think…" Another cough interrupted him while more black blood spilled from his mouth. "You think I was the root?"

The cavern trembled again.

This time not from the elder.

The tar pits surrounding the chamber began boiling violently.

Huge bubbles swelled upward through the black sludge before bursting in explosions of abyssal flame. The pressure flooding through the cavern changed instantly, becoming deeper, older, infinitely heavier than the corruption the elder carried inside him.

The freed disciples doubled over almost immediately.

Fresh corruption surged through their meridians trying to reclaim them.

Haotian's eyes narrowed sharply while his Dao Palaces expanded again to suppress the spreading influence.

The elder looked upward smiling weakly through bloodstained teeth.

"You pulled too hard," he rasped. "Now it's awake."

The largest tar pit ruptured.

Not upward like an explosion.

More like reality itself tearing open beneath the mountain.

Something began rising slowly through the boiling corruption below. At first there was no clear shape, only movement inside endless black sludge, but the deeper pressure spreading through the cavern intensified with every second.

Faces surfaced first.

Hundreds of them.

Some screamed silently. Some laughed. Some cried while dissolving back into the tar beneath them. None remained stable longer than a few breaths before sinking again into the shifting mass.

Then the laws around the creature became visible.

Time warped sideways near its body.

Light folded inward unnaturally.

Space bent and twisted as though the cavern itself no longer understood how to exist properly near the rising thing.

Several disciples vomited immediately after looking at it directly.

One freed elder whispered hoarsely, "What… is that…"

The thing continued rising.

Not a beast.

Not human.

Not truly alive in any normal sense.

Its body shifted constantly between solid and liquid while tar flowed endlessly across countless malformed structures emerging and collapsing within the mass. Half-formed limbs surfaced briefly before dissolving again. Eyes opened across the creature randomly before melting shut beneath more sludge.

The cavern groaned beneath its presence.

Haotian remained motionless while studying it carefully.

His Dao Palaces pulsed together beneath the pressure.

"So this," he said quietly, "is the real source."

The creature turned toward him.

Every face across its surface screamed simultaneously.

The sound struck like a collapsing ocean.

Several freed disciples lost consciousness instantly while others collapsed bleeding from their ears. The remaining cavern walls cracked further beneath the pressure while the hanging bridges overhead snapped loose one after another.

Then the creature lunged.

A tidal wave of corruption surged toward Haotian fast enough to swallow the entire central chamber before most disciples could even react.

Haotian's heart core pulsed immediately.

The Dao of the Universe expanded outward anchoring the surrounding laws.

The wave slowed.

Not stopped.

Forced into stable motion.

He stepped directly into it.

His sea of consciousness ignited next while the Dao of Creation reshaped the approaching corruption into redirected channels that twisted upward across the cavern ceiling instead of consuming the disciples below.

The creature adapted immediately.

The redirected tar shifted midair trying to collapse back inward toward him.

Destruction answered.

The Dao erupted from Haotian's dantian while the suspended corruption disintegrated into ash before reconnecting.

The creature screamed louder.

This time the sound bypassed air completely.

It shook thought itself.

Haotian advanced through the collapsing cavern while the corruption lashed toward him repeatedly through massive tendrils shaped from tar and warped law. One strike cut sideways through three towers simultaneously before descending toward him like a falling mountain.

Haotian caught it barehanded.

Destruction spread through the tendril instantly.

The corrupted limb convulsed violently while false laws unraveled beneath his grip.

He crushed it apart.

The shattered fragments splattered across the cavern floor.

Then they began crawling back toward the creature again.

Several disciples stared in horror.

"It's rebuilding…"

The creature's countless faces twisted together into something resembling laughter.

More attacks came immediately afterward.

Blades of inverted light.

Storms of backward-flowing wind.

Flames cold enough to freeze qi circulation itself.

The laws themselves had become corrupted.

Haotian's three Dao Palaces answered together.

Universe stabilized the surrounding space before the distorted laws could spread.

Creation rewrote the warped attacks back toward proper structure.

Destruction erased what remained.

Yet every time he destroyed part of the creature, the corruption adapted faster.

It began resisting equilibrium itself.

The tar pressing around Haotian shifted strangely whenever the Dao of the Universe expanded. Anchored space tilted sideways unnaturally. Creation pathways twisted into false structures before collapsing. Destroyed fragments rebuilt stronger than before.

The corruption was learning.

Not mindlessly.

Actively.

Inside the growing storm of black sludge and warped law, Haotian's body finally slowed slightly beneath the accumulating pressure. Corruption pushed constantly against his meridians trying to invade through every opening while the creature's endless regeneration forced him to spend more power each moment simply preventing the cavern from being consumed entirely.

The creature noticed immediately.

Its attacks intensified.

Massive tides of tar collapsed inward around Haotian from every direction simultaneously while corrupted laws pressed against his Dao Palaces directly trying to distort them from within.

For the first time since entering the cavern, Haotian dropped briefly to one knee.

The corruption surged toward him instantly.

Then a familiar voice echoed through the darkness surrounding his consciousness.

"Brat," Alter said dryly. "You planning to kneel there until it eats you?"
