When they got back to the office, Miss Ayah couldn't stop teasing. "Cherry, why didn't I grow up with a handsome, kind brother like yours?" she said loudly enough for everyone to hear.
"I swear, I think he likes you," their team leader chimed in, sparking laughs from the others.
Cherry waved her hands. "N-No, it's not like that. He's just nice to everyone," she replied with a forced smile.
It had never even crossed her mind that Elijah might like her. Why would he? He lived a world apart from hers. Sure, any girl would dream of someone like him, but that wasn't her reality and she wasn't foolish enough to believe in fantasies.
Miss Ayah winked. "Okay, okay, I get it."
Cherry stayed quiet, knowing they didn't believe a word. It seemed everyone at the office now thought Elijah was her doctor-boyfriend from childhood.
She figured it was better to let them believe whatever they wanted. Eventually, they'd see the truth that she had no boyfriend and Elijah wasn't even family.
