As Cate/Galeazzo dealt with the Staranse clan, the world kept on moving. The humans were less than pleased by the return of Medusa, and they were already making moves to deal with the issue.
Humans were beloved by the Supreme Deity. They were his favorite creations, considering them his children. With the love of the Supreme Deity on their side, the humans managed to live in a world filled with all manner of supernatural beings, gods, and devils. Many supernatural beings wanted to wipe out humanity at one time or another, but they did not dare take action out of fear of the Divine Wrath that would follow. Even killing a certain number of humans at once was enough for a supernatural to suddenly find themselves cursed by the Supreme Deity.
A long time ago, a human called Dela prayed to the Supreme Deity, begging for a way for humans to stand up to the many creatures that moved through the night, and the deity answered. He did so by granting the power of Sacrificing to the humans. Each human soul had this power even though it was dormant, and most people would never know of its existence.
To activate this power, a human had to sacrifice one of their Nine Divine Gates. These gates were pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, sloth, faith, hope, and ascension. These gates were the cores that made a human what they were. Through this sacrifice, one proved their devotion to the survival of humanity and their faith in the Supreme Deity. Those humans who managed to sacrifice one of their divine gates gained access to their sacrifice power and became Sacrifice Warriors, the protectors of humanity.
After being granted the power of sacrifice, Dela founded the Divine Temple. This organization gathered all Sacrifice Warriors and led them in fighting back against supernatural creatures. They had temples in all major cities across the world.
The last time Cate was in New York, she hunted vampires, and in doing so, she attracted the attention of the Divine Temple branch there. When the Sanctified map noticed so many vampires disappearing, the temple was shaken and decided to investigate a little. This was when Cate invaded the temple through their surveillance cameras. At that time, she did not kill anyone, but this was more than enough to garner the rage of the Divine Temple. One of their temples had been breached and their people threatened.
The temple was not an organization that took threats lying down. They immediately began looking into who exactly had threatened them, and after many divinations and investigations, they learned that it was Catherine Danescu, Master of the Wandering Palace. They were very confused when they learned that she was also Medusa.
Cate's parents in this life had been notorious, and they had crossed paths with the temple on more than one occasion. This was because the temple had one of the keys of Chaos. There was a total of twelve keys of Chaos, and the temple had three of them. These three keys combined to form the Key of Future.
Cate knew about this fact since there was a time in the past when her severed head had been used as a weapon by the Divine Temple. At that time, Cate had learned many of the temple's secrets. She also learned that in order to take on the temple and manage to steal the Key of Future for herself, she needed to have the power of a legendary magician. Currently, Cate was only still a supreme sorcerer, and this was why she put off taking on the temple and focused on the Staranse Mage clan.
Cate's parents had been intent on collecting all the keys at all costs, and so they had attacked the temple on more than one occasion. Hundreds of Sacrifice Warriors were killed in these battles. The temple was more than furious. What Cate did not know was that the temple had worked with Avalon in the final attack that killed her parents.
Once the Divine Temple learned that through some unexplained happenings, Catherine Danescu, the new Master of the Wandering Palace, and Medusa were the same person, they were more than surprised and shaken by the implications. From the records they had about Medusa, she had also wanted to collect the keys of Chaos, and at that time, she had been more than ruthless in her actions. She had killed thousands, forever trapping hundreds as statues that could never get any rest even in death. It was only after using the power of the Key of Future that the temple learned so much about Cate and became the first to learn of the return of Medusa.
When orders came down to track down and subdue Medusa, the Temple Master who led the New York branch quickly offered herself to be the one to deal with Cate. She was still pissed off that Cate had invaded her temple. The Temple Master wanted to redeem herself by personally taking down Cate.
With help from the Key of Future, the Temple Master, Aurelia Ashwood, was known for her efficiency. She did not waste any time before making her move. The Wandering Palace had been tracked and found to be in Rocamadour, a small city in France. The city had a small population, making it the ideal place to deal with the Wandering Palace.
Aurelia formed a team made up of the most powerful Sacrifice Warriors under her command. The Divine Temple was a human organization run by humans, but this did not mean that they did not work with some supernaturals. They had more than a few magicians in their ranks, and with their help, the group used a teleportation circle to reach Rocamadour in less than a few minutes.
The Wandering Palace was a powerful magical treasure that very few people could see. Cate was the master, and unless she gave one permission to see the palace, they would not see it. This was how the palace managed to move all over the world without ever being seen by the humans.
Sacrifice Warriors were powerful, but they were still humans, and they therefore could not see the Wandering Palace. Even the supernatural creatures that Aurelia had brought along could not see the palace, but they had come prepared for this fact. Aurelia had brought along a sacred treasure. Sacred treasures were gifts from the gods, and the Divine Temple had a few of them. Each Temple Master was given one. Aurelia had brought hers. It was a slender blue sword that had the power to cut through all illusions.
