Chapter 189 - Chapter 189: Soul World

The Soul World stretched infinitely around them, a gray expanse that seemed to breathe with the weight of countless eons. Time had no meaning here. Distance had no measure. Only hunger—ancient, patient, insatiable—gave the void any sense of purpose.

Komatsu floated in King's crimson-gold aura, his consciousness slowly acclimating to the impossible physics of this place. He could feel the other chefs nearby—Yoda, Senryu, Damala, Kachinokishu—each a small light in the darkness, anchored by King's power.

"Mr. King," Komatsu said, his voice echoing strangely even in his own mind, "how are you able to exist here? You're not dead. Your body is still in the material world."

King's smile was enigmatic. "I'm full of surprises."

The Emperor Engine's rhythm pulsed through the crimson-gold aura, a heartbeat that seemed to resonate with the very fabric of the Soul World. The spirit eaters that had been swarming toward them now kept their distance, their hungry forms flickering with what might have been fear.

"They recognize power," Tang Slime said, its dark form drifting closer. Its scarlet eyes studied King with something like respect. "Even in death, even in hunger, they know what not to challenge."

"Wise of them," King said casually. "Now, about the [ANOTHER]..."

Tang Slime's form rippled. "Deep in the Soul World. Past the layers of memory, past the hunger, past the silence. It's been hiding for eons, waiting for a chef worthy of its taste."

Yoda's voice came through the connection, steady despite the chaos. "What makes a chef worthy?"

Tang Slime's eyes gleamed. "The [ANOTHER] is not an ingredient to be conquered. It is a partner to be understood. It has tasted the hunger of every spirit that has ever existed. It knows the flavor of despair, of hope, of love, of loss. To cook it, you must taste those things yourself. And you must be willing to share."

Komatsu's hands, even in soul form, clenched. "Share?"

"The [ANOTHER] feeds on the chef as much as the chef feeds on it. It will take your memories, your emotions, your very essence—and transform them into flavor. The question is: what are you willing to give?"

The other chefs exchanged glances. Senryu's form flickered with uncertainty. Damala's glow dimmed. Even Yoda seemed to hesitate.

But Komatsu's light only grew brighter.

"I'll give everything," he said. "Every memory. Every feeling. Every meal I've ever cooked and every meal I'll ever cook. If that's what it takes to end the hunger, to save the world, to feed everyone..." He paused. "Then I'll give it all."

Tang Slime studied him for a long moment. Then, slowly, it nodded.

"Good. Because that's exactly what it will take."

The crimson-gold aura pulsed, and King's voice echoed in their minds: "Then let's not keep the fish waiting. Tang Slime, lead the way."

The dark Gourmet Devil turned, its form cutting through the gray expanse. Komatsu and the other chefs followed, their souls glowing like lanterns in the void.

Behind them, the spirit eaters watched—hungry, patient, waiting.

But for now, they did not approach.

They knew what was coming. They could taste it in the air that wasn't air, in the time that wasn't time.

The [ANOTHER] was waking.

And the feast was about to begin.

In the material world, Toriko stood before the Food Spirit Gate, his hand pressed against its cool surface. He could feel nothing—no vibration, no warmth, no sign of the souls that had passed through.

"How long has it been?" he asked.

Rin checked her watch. "Three minutes. Outside time, anyway."

"Inside, it could be hours. Days." Starjun's voice was tight. "Years."

Toriko's jaw clenched. "Komatsu can handle it. He's stronger than he looks."

"Stronger than all of us," Starjun agreed. "In different ways."

They stood in silence, guardians of empty bodies, waiting for souls to return.

On Starjun's shoulder, the mini Whale King Moon let out a soft "woo," its ancient eyes fixed on the gate.

He's coming, the sound seemed to say. They're all coming.

With something wonderful.

The feast was coming.

The hunger was ending.

And somewhere in the depths of the Soul World, a young chef was learning to cook the most important meal of his life.
