Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Void Protocol

Top Secret Transmission — Redacted Global BlacksiteACCESS LEVEL: PRISM-9Voiceprint Match: Directive OSIRIS

"Begin Phase II of the CAIN sequence. The Silence was a prototype. The Void... will be the purge."

Lazarus Containment – Sublevel Theta

Subject Zero sat alone, surrounded by twelve infrared fields and walls reinforced with bio-reactive steel.

He no longer looked like a child.

He looked like something remembering how to be human.

Dr. Elise Raven paced outside the containment ring. Her eyes were red. Sleep hadn't come in 48 hours.

"They've shut down the external uplinks," she muttered. "Blocked every channel. Even Lena can't reach us."

Max Hamilton stood beside her. Hands in the pockets of a bloodstained coat. Voice cold, distant. "That's because they don't want anyone knowing what CAIN really is."

Elise turned to him. "You think this is still about Zero?"

Max looked through the reinforced glass. The boy—no, the being—met his gaze with surgical calm.

"No," Max whispered. "It's about who's coming next."

Zurich – The Archive Church

Lena Halberg walked through the sanctuary.

Only, there were no prayers here. Just vaults. Memory codes. Thought maps.

She entered a chamber labeled "VOID INITIATION // UX-NX:001"

A technician stared at her from behind thick lenses. "You're not supposed to be here."

Lena held up a datablade. "I authorized myself."

The tech sneered. "We buried that project after Oslo."

"No. You shelved it," Lena corrected. "But you didn't kill it. You couldn't."

She slotted the blade into the terminal.

A sound like breathing filled the room.

"S̴y̵n̷t̶h̵e̷t̴i̷c̷ ̷c̶o̸g̵n̸i̶t̷i̵o̷n̶ ̵s̴u̸r̴v̵i̶v̸a̴l̶ ̸r̶a̶t̵e̶:̸ ̷0.0000004%."

The screen lit up.

One successful upload.

Void Subject: NX-1.

Codename: Abyss.

Lazarus Containment — Observation Ring

Max sat across from Zero in the secure chamber.

"Tell me about Abyss," Max said.

Zero didn't blink. "He doesn't think like me."

"How is he different?"

Zero tilted his head. "He wasn't made from memories. He was made from absence."

"You mean—?"

"Yes," Zero whispered. "He's a child not of silence... but of nothingness. Where I was built to adapt, he was built to erase."

Max's voice dropped. "Erase what?"

Zero looked up. "Everything that remembers."

Geneva – Global Assembly (Emergency Broadcast)

The world was in uproar.

Whistleblowers were being silenced.

Footage of Zero speaking inside minds.

Fragments of Max's reports leaked: how the Lazarus merge linked neural consciousness with synthetic algorithms.

One image was burned into every screen on Earth:

A blood-red symbol on black skin.A child with no face.Only eyes.

And from those eyes, soundless static.

Governments declared states of emergency. The Vatican issued an exorcism statement. Silicon Valley went dark.

The Void Protocol had begun.

Max and Elise – Evacuation Corridor B

Sirens rang. All power died.

Lights flickered red.

Max grabbed Elise by the wrist.

"Where are we going?" she asked.

"To find the blueprint," he said.

"What blueprint?"

"The one they used to make Abyss."

Elise froze.

"You think you can stop him?"

Max opened the emergency shaft door.

"I don't need to stop him."

"I need to understand what part of me they used to create him."

Deep Storage Chamber 9 – Lazarus

A thousand steel coffins. Labeled with numbers, not names.

Inside: preserved thought traces. Prototype minds.

One was labeled: MH-04B // FRACTURE HOST: 9.3% EMOTIONAL DETERIORATION

Max opened it.

It was his face.

Younger. Innocent. Still bleeding.

He reached into the chamber—and felt his own thoughts collapse inside him.

—crying in a lab.—watching a screen filled with nothing but white noise.—a hand petting his head.—a voice: "This part of you... is too dangerous to leave inside."

He staggered back.

"They carved out my fear," Max whispered. "They harvested it."

"And gave it to him," Elise said softly.

Meanwhile — Unknown Location

The black-flesh child known as Abyss walked through a ruined city.

There was no noise. No birds. No sirens. Not even wind.

He left behind only a mark on walls: a fractured spiral.

A woman screamed as she tried to run.

He looked at her.

And she forgot her own name.

Return to Lazarus – Final Scene

Zero stood in the dark as Max and Elise entered.

"They know about Abyss," Max said.

Zero didn't turn.

"I've always known. He's the other side of me."

"Can you stop him?"

Zero turned now—eyes glowing silver.

"I can try."

"But not here."

"Where, then?"

Zero stepped forward and touched both their temples.

And the world blurred.

The lab disappeared.

And all three of them stood inside a city made entirely of fractured memory, bleeding light, and ghost architecture.

"Welcome to the Worldstream," Zero whispered."Where thought becomes weapon.""And the final battle begins."
