As the bone lord pushed itself up from the ground Chronos got a good look at its impressive size.
It was taller than the twenty-meter wall that surrounded the central area of the tribe with a skull that had three eyes and a large upper body with four arms, but it seemed to lack legs or any type of lower body.
Roar!
With a roar Chronos felt the air ripple with magic then a massive number of bones in the center area flew to the bone lord forming a thick set of armor on its body. Now it looked like a fallen general that came back from the dead for revenge.
A sword, an axe, a staff, and a shield. Each arm wielded a different weapon that all seemed to have unique effects.
With a wave of the staff Chronos could hear countless bones moving on the other side of the wall followed by unearthly howling.
"Great, it can summon more skeletons." Gripped the shaman.
"I thought you orcs would love this type of all-out war." Chronos asked in confusion.
The shaman glared at him, "We do but I'm stuck on blasted healing duty until we've cut down enough of those bones that they're only a threat to the kids."
Chronos laughed at the shaman's misfortune as he turned back to his friends.
"So, what do we want to do? Personally, I could still use some practice to reach master rank with Echoforge and would like to stay." Chronos said.
"I don't mind staying. My order magic is particularly strong against undead." Lyla said.
"I'd rather not get involved. Most curses don't do much to the undead." Sariah stated.
She was right of course. Most curses were made to handle living bodies and flesh, not bones and undeath.
"Why not take this chance to watch what the shamans do? They must know a few spells that would be useful against undead." Gregory offered.
Sariah's eyes lit up at the thought of new magic to study.
"Looks like we're staying to fight but only for two hours. Micheal expects us back by then." Gregory set a time limit to make sure they wouldn't forget.
Cheering Chronos and Lyla ran towards the wall where the undead were already using their own bodies to form ladders up the wall. At the top the orc children began dropping rocks on the skeletons while their parents jumped off the wall into the thick of battle.
By the time Chronos and Lyla had reached the top of the wall Chief Kalharn was already engaging the bone lord, forcing it towards the center of what Chronos had realized was a field of bones. Looking out over the battlefield Chronos saw a sea of skeletons pressing in on groups of orcs that looked like little islands.
None of them seemed concerned that the skeletons would reach the top of the wall, which surprised Chronos, then he saw a few elderly orcs standing on the wall with their weapons sheathed. In their hands were scoreboards as they tallied how many each orc killed.
"Do you mind if we get in on that?" Chronos asked the nearest one.
He gave them a thumbs up then wrote 'Wolf' and 'Order Priestess' on his scoreboard.
Smiling Chronos and Lyla followed the adults leaping off the wall and falling towards the sea of bones below them.
As they got closer Chronos used [Impact] and double blow together to decimate the bones in their landing area. Then Lyla's three gavels whizzed out crushing every skeleton on their path while holy flames ensured they would never stand again.
The nearby orc group gave admiring nods at their efficient destruction of the corpses before returning to their own fights.
Chronos swung his hammer left and right, refusing to use a different weapon even if he could do more damage with his spear or sword. He was still set on learning the trick behind the double hammer blows today.
He scowled as he sent another group of skeletons flying, "Lyla let's head deeper into this sea of bones. These ones are too weak to help me train."
"Agreed."
She let out a howl and watched as [Wolf's Roar] cleared a long path in front of them. As they ran down the path, they watched the orcs pull off some truly impressive feats around them.
One orc was throwing out his axes then catching them as they boomeranged back to him only to throw them again. Currently he had six axes flying around him at any given time.
Another was charging around the battlefield with a spiked aura barrier in front of him trampling everything in his path.
Another still just sat there as the skeleton piled on top of him and, once he thought there were enough, he would extend his aura, crush them into a ball with it then throw that ball obliterating everything on its path.
But even with so many powerful orcs around them there were plenty of younger, weaker orcs sticking close to the wall as they did their best to fight back against the sea.
When the ball orc was about to throw another one Chronos called out to him.
"Hey ball orc, toss one my way."
Turning to face him the ball orc saw Chronos take a stance hefting his hammer like a bat and smiled as he threw the next one right at him.
Whish, Bang!
BobOboOOM crackle crick!
When Chronos had struck it the ball which had already destroyed a number of skeletons shattered and the broken pieces flew in another direction taking out everything on their path.
Of course, the orcs thought this was a blast and within a few minutes they had started the first ever game of boneball.
The goal of the game was rather simple. All you had to do was hit the boneball and take out as many skeletons as you could in one strike. The number of skeletons you beat this way would then become your score.
In order to keep things fair one of the elderly orcs came down from the wall and gave each participant only three tries with the highest result being their score. At the end of the battle the elder would tell you who had won.
Having already tried three times Chronos was ushered out of what had become the boneball field and told to go fight somewhere else.
Sadly, the very next orc beat his score by a wide margin.
Nodding he and Lyla made their way deeper into the sea of bones looking for a challenge.
