Chapter 146 - 146 Landing at The Church

"You guys have a lot of treatment methods, don't you?" He commented while looking at the stacks of potions, poultices and bandages in the room.

"Apprentice archivists are just stupid enough to think they know what they are doing and just smart enough to make the experiment explode. It makes a lot of extra work for those of us in the healing department." One of them grumbled as he applied a splint to a broken arm.

Chronos nodded in understanding.

After assisting the infirmary Chronos and Lyla found Micheal in the wheelhouse.

"Why are we so close to the Averest forest and where are we stopping for supplies?" Chronos asked.

The ship's captain stomped over to him until he was eye to eye with Chronos.

"We're stopping at the dragon church. We'll be arriving in the next few hours and disembarking so the repair crews can fix the damage done to my ship during your rampage with the big bird. Do you know how expensive that equipment is?" The ship's captain crossly replied, conveniently ignoring the first question.

"If you hadn't flown so close to the forest, we wouldn't have needed to fight a thunderwing. Also, if you want to protect precious equipment then you shouldn't put it on the outside of the ship or at least have a way to bring it inside during combat." Chronos retorted.

"Both of you calm down. We will be more prepared now that we know what to expect from the forest." Micheal stepped between them.

Chronos snorted. If they were planning to return to the forest, then he would take his friends and walk to the capital.

"For now, let's make a list of what we need from the church and I need a report on everyone that will be permanently disembarking due to injuries." Micheal continued.

Lyla stepped forward holding a list in her hands.

"This is the list of all of the injured, but nobody needs intensive treatment. At best they'll need a high priestess to cast a spell on them for regrowing fingers or parts of their flesh."

Micheal took the list and was slightly surprised to find that it was much smaller than he had expected. Chronos distracting the thunderwing, which had been the strongest attacker, had not only saved lives it had prevented serious injury to the guards as well.

"Very well then, I'll make the arrangements once we land. Now would the two of you please return to your rooms before some of the apprentices try to imitate you."

Chronos was starting to wonder if they were really keeping them in their rooms to keep them safe like they had said when they boarded or to stop the apprentices from following in their footsteps and doing something crazy.

Getting impatient Micheal started to guide them back to their rooms.

"Alright we're going no need to push us." Chronos laughed as he walked down the stairs and back towards his room.

"The way he's treating us you'd think we were a pariah." Lyla mock complained.

"I'm pretty sure that's exactly how he sees us. From what I can tell the archivists are a relatively boring group that follows strict rules and our presence seems to be giving some of the younger one's ideas." Chronos smirked.

Micheal scowled at them, "Dangerous ideas. We have strict rules for a reason and your blatant disregard for both your own and other people's safety is putting those rules at risk."

"We haven't done that much. Just cooked in our rooms and jumped into the middle of a battle." Lyla was honestly confused why he was so upset with only two strikes against them and the second strike was kind of expected.

Misheal let out a deep sigh, "Gregory has been testing new concoctions to carry with him into battle while Sariah has cursed at least three people already."

"You should look into the three people Sariah cursed; she doesn't curse others without reason." Chronos advised him.

"And worst of all you, Chronos, keep using new magics in front of the apprentices! Do you have any idea how hard it is to restrain them when they are so eager to experiment with new magic?" Micheal glared at him.

"You're only saying that because you're not allowed to play with the new magic while you're in charge of the ship." Chronos countered.

"Obviously!" Both of them burst out laughing as Micheal snapped at them.

After returning to their room Lyla started making breakfast while Chronos created some more item bags to sell at the church. He expected them to be very valuable in the first few months before they had time to spread through the kingdom and fully intended to take advantage of that time.

He needed to raise some funds for his future adventures and while he could ask his family for help Chronos preferred to rely on himself for something as simple as making money.

Hours later he felt the ship begin its descent.

"Lyla, finish up your cooking, we're going to be landing soon."

She had been cooking since they returned to his room in order to always have premade meals on hand, they just needed to warm them up. Chronos carefully sorted them as he stored them in his storage.

"Alright. That storage of yours is unfair, you can keep food fresh for a whole week." She complained

"I'm becoming much more skilled at creating item bags so I'll see if I can make something similar for you later." Chronos replied as he put a pan of lasagna onto a shelf in his storage.

Looking out of the window they watched as priests cleared the wagon loading area they had stopped at the last time they were here.

"Wow, that's an impressive church. The dragon church in the capital doesn't have as much space or as many buildings as this one. Is this normal?" Lyla asked while admiring the structure.

"No, this church works with the tribes of Dracon Fen and all of the other territories around here, so it was made large to begin with and expanded over the years. Even though the Ulv territory has a dragon church we use this one for major events or holidays too." Chronos said.

The church back home was big, but it mostly catered to raising orphans or helping the Ulv family with receiving blessings to protect their territory while this one worked with multiple lords and tribes to bless the land and ensure that merchants had safe passage.

The difference in size and responsibility was easily visible for anyone to see. But seeing it from above really drove home just how massive it was. The church was easily twice the size of the one in the Ulv territory and to the southwest a large city had been built over the flatland.

Since he had come from the north the first time he visited, he hadn't had a chance to see the rest of the city.

When the ship landed, they disembarked and were met with the Matriarch again.

She hesitated for a moment before speaking, "Greetings once more, Lost Pup."

"How do you know that title?" Chronos's eyes widened in shock; he didn't think she had been given the system yet.

"You shouldn't ask a lady about such secrets. More importantly I've heard that you acquired something rather troublesome during your travels and came to see it. Tell me about this system of yours." Her voice hollowly echoed around him.

So, she hadn't been given the system yet, someone must have told her about it but that didn't explain how she knew about his title. Oh well no matter how she had learned of it she would know even more once she had the system.

"Instead of telling you about it you should experience it yourself." With a flick of his hand Chronos eagerly waited for her to jump in shock only to be disappointed.

She barely even reacted to having a strange translucent screen appear in front of her. Touching the screen, she began to explore the various functions the system gave her access to.

"I see, so this is why my god warned me about the system. With access to so many different skills and powers this system will change the way the world does war or anything really." The more she discovered about the system the more concerned she became about it spreading.

"I don't think you need to worry too much. Various gods are involved in spreading it already and with the dragon church's help no tyrants will be able to monopolize it either." Chronos said.

"Aren't you just passing off the annoying parts to me and enjoying the benefits for yourself?" She raised an eyebrow at him.

"Yes."

"Haah, at least pretend you're taking responsibility. Even if you don't mean it others will react to you better."

"I'd rather not lie to a woman that could kill me with a glare." He hadn't been able to feel it before but now that his senses were stronger, he could see space bending around this woman.
