It was afternoon at the Boardwalk, but nobody was resting.
Ever since the Screamer attack, the settlement had been moving nonstop.
The damage was too great to repair in a single day.
Still, nobody complained.
They rebuilt.
And this time, they were rebuilding stronger.
The Screamer had changed the way people looked at the Boardwalk.
Before, it had been a relatively safe place. Not perfect, but protected. There were barricades, armed guards, people who knew how to fight, and enough survivors to make the settlement feel alive. They had believed that if they stayed alert and kept the Infected outside, they could survive.
But Callighan had shown them how fragile that safety really was.
He had sent people into the Boardwalk's blind spots. He had placed Screamer devices where nobody noticed them. Then, in the middle of the night, he had used the sound to pull Infected from every direction and drive them into a frenzy.
The Boardwalk had almost fallen.
Everyone knew it.
