Stepping out of a limo, as cameras were fixed to Adrian in a white suit. He waved and smiled to the cameras as he walked down with his guard walking behind him. Microphones were offered to him from multiple news outlets, but he just walked past them all but one.
"Hello Ms.Kari."
Kari faced twitch, she didn't even offer her microphone but he still notices her. Her cameraman pushed her forward, "Terrence you traitor." she said in her head. Catching herself on the railing, she grated her teeth and jumped over the railing, revealing her green halter dress. Taking a deep breath, she cracked a smile, and gave a signal to start the camera.
Starting off with her introduction, looking excited to be here, she turned to Adrian.
"Adrian, what is your main interest in this auction?"
Offering him the microphone. Adrian smiled, seeing the way that Kari shuts her eyes but feels her staring at him feel like hatred, but it is behind an angelic smile.
"Well I'm interested in this year's artifacts. Two in fact." he said, leading forward, speaking loudly.
"What about the antique?" she asked.
"Not really, I have my own interest and collecting antiques is not one of them. History has its own fascination, but I find it meaningless."
"Would you like to say anything before we go?"
"You should treat your parents with respect, right Kari." Adrian said
"And clear?" the cameraman said as Kari took a breath. Jumping over the rail Kari clicked her tongue, she grabbed the cameraman and dragged him away. Adrian was watching her walk away, he could help but smiled, and continued to walk to the entrance.
As the sound of classical music began to play, crowds gathered, chatting amongst themselves and having fine wine, the room was calm, but lively. Standing against the wall, Maverick was keeping their eyes on Luke having a conversation with an old couple, but Gray had sickening expressions. Covering his mouth it was clear that he wasn't used to this environment.
Patting his back, Maverick asked "Is this your first job as Vice?"
"This is the first in general." He answered by uncovering his mouth and standing up straight.
Maverick was astonished to hear that, "Care to elaborate?"
"Well I beat Jin and Dabrick in a fight."
"Wait Dabrick, Dabrick the false mummy." Maverick said, completely baffled. "Dabrick is the most dangerous person in the underground city."
Gray placed his hand on his chin, and said "Well his use of his ability for both offence and defense was quite impressive, it could give an average person a problem, but he reveals his entire hand quite easily."
Maverick looks at him with confusion and wonders what he meant by "easily." He took a moment to ponder, "What are you saying you're stronger than a captain rank." He said out loud, quickly covering his mouth.
Gray looked at him also confused, "What is a captain rank."
"How much do you know about the Defensa rankings?"
"Not much."
Maverick began to break down the Defensa ranking. The Defensa are broken down into seven rankings; Foot soldier, Knight, Captain. The spots are for the rookies and for the average member. They were made to serve and protect the people. And there is a branch off after Captain, those are the Dark Knights and the Paladins. They are made for problems that are far beyond the command man, but the way they handle it causes the branch. The Paladins are made for the public And the Dark Knights work in the dark, but neither side is better or stronger.
The Defensa have three divisions; Phoenix, Falcon, and Wolves. Each one is run under the Abyssal rank; they make sure everyone stays in line. And finally the Omin rank. Omin are appointed not by merit in their own community, but from recognition of the entire region. The approval has to be eighty percent majority by the committee which makes this rank the most respected. This country has thirty regions which means that there could be only thirty Omin ranks out of time.
"That is how the Defensa breakdown rankings, but it gets more complex when you add the class, and roles in the mix." Maverick said shrugging his shoulders
"Is that so? Then what is your standing?" Gray asked
"Knight, first class, shooter." Maverick said, looking doubtful.
Gray noticed that Maverick was glancing back and forth almost as if he didn't want someone to notice him. See the general directions, Gray turns and sees a small crowd. The only thing that stood out was a tall stunning woman in a purple dress. Her hair was golden with silver braced around her head like a crown.
She looked towards Gray's direction, meeting each other gazed. She smiled and apologized to the crowd before walking away.
Maverick looked back up to see her stepping closer, he clinched his fist. Gray rubs his neck feeling like he invited disaster.
Introducing herself as Lauren Ventura, she greeted Gray by extending her hand to him, and Gray shook her finger in response. She began to shower him with compliments, his clothes, hair, his eyes.
She smiles "So what do you think of me, lucky eyes." she said while crossing her arms to emphasize her chest.
"You looked absolutely lovely, young lady."
She was pleased, letting off a slide giggle. "Is that what you truly think?" She said, placing her hand on his shoulder, as Maverick looked at her with disdain.
"So you prefer truth over compliments, fine. You're absolutely vile." Gray said without restraint, "Your lips, chest, and your bottom are all fake, just seek attached. Next time don't use your's either, just for your validation."
Lauren's mouth practically drops with Gray's response. Maverick was also surprised by this; Lauren's ability is called "Confession" it forces the truth out with sign resistance but Gray didn't show any sign of resisting.
Lauren's angelic smile turns into anger. Maverick couldn't but smiled, Lauren wanted a truthful answer and got one to damage her ego. Seeing this Maverick smile. A waiter passed by with a tray full of glasses of wine. She grabbed one of the wines and spilled on Gray head. "NO I WILL NOT GO OUT WITH YOU!" she said loudly from a group to hear and to gather to listen.
Maverick's smile quickly faded, while Lauren looked at him with a smirk. Gray sigh, he had been seeing those two reacted with each and she is just using himself to vent. Gray noticed Maverick's mouth started to quiver almost like he wanted to say something.
Moving through the crowd a thin bearded man pulled Lauren by the arm, by the way he was dressed, it was that of a butler than a bodyguard. The butler asked about the situation, and she ended up pointing her finger at Gray and insulting him for the crowd to hear. The butler walked to Gray, demanding an apology and slipped him.
"Quite an admirable butler, stick up for your mistress, but tell me this." Gray said, as he wiped away the wine on his face and asked "Do you sleep with your mistress?"
"Yes I do." The butler quickly covers his mouth after realizing what he just said, leaving the crowd stunned.
"I see. Is this true, Lauren?"
"Yes, several times actually." Lauren also covers her mouth after realizing what she has said.
"Alright, one more question. How many other partners do you have besides this butler?"
Her hand began to move away. She struggled to keep her mouth closed, but Gray's question compelled her to speak. "Te- te ten." she said softly.
The crowd began to whisper among themselves to be discussing if what they heard was the truth. Most of them know who Lauren was, and her "Confession" and after what they heard, Gray seems to have the same ability. Lauren could only look down in defeat, she started to question herself, trying to rationalize that her core is unique and it was a result of a backlash.
Even if that was the case, Maverick finds that contradictory. Federica and Page details confirm that Gray had a barrier. If it was only Lauren who had been questioned it would have been the results of backlash due to Gray density of ether, but he also asked the butler.
Gray started to approach the butler and whisper into his ear, and said " You better take your mistress out of here before her standing becomes worse than it already is." The butler could only do as he was told, taking Lauren with him and leaving the room in disgrace.
Before Gray had a chance to walk back towards Maverick, his arm was pulled by an old man and asked, "Want to join my company?" Before he had a chance to decline his offer, his other arm was pulled by another business man and asked for the same offer. Little that Gray knew, people with "Confession" ability are essentially the best way to find frauds within and outside of business and to receive the ability is one in a hundred million. They are nothing more than a walking lie detector. Maverick was watching Gray being overwhelmed by different offerings, he could only describe it as a damsel walking into a zombie horde.
Clapping loudly, Luke drew the attention of the crowd to himself, "You know the rules don't harass the employees." he said while the crowd backed away from Gray. Despite Luke family names slowly declining, but the way they back off, it was more out of respect than him being the host. And the way he perceives himself is more serious rather than his carefree attitude.
Looking at Gray's clothes soaked in wine, he walked towards Maverick and asked out loud, "Can you take Ortiz to the employees locker for any extra uniforms?" Maverick agreed, knowing that the amount of attention that Gray unintentionally brought upon himself and simply wanted to deter them away from him by analogy that he was an employee here.
As Gray filled Maverick the crowd whispered to themselves and they started to gather and went to ask Luke about his new employee.
