Alex returned to the camp, pushing aside the tent flap and stepping inside. The dim light filtered through the fabric, casting soft shadows across the small space.
Violet was still asleep.
Of course she was.
"Violet… get up," Alex said, nudging her shoulder. "It's time to go."
She groaned, turning slightly before opening her eyes halfway. Her expression was full of annoyance.
"Don't look at me like that," Alex added. "We're going to the cave."
Violet sighed loudly, clearly irritated, but slowly pushed herself up.
"Okay… okay, I'm up," she muttered, her voice still heavy with sleep.
She grabbed a bit of water and splashed her face, trying to wake herself up.
"What are we even going to look for?" she asked.
Alex adjusted his bag as he answered.
"According to the map, we might find some useful things. Evolution stones, maybe. Items like Mystic Water or Soft Sand. Stuff that could help our Pokémon."
He paused briefly.
"There are also rumors about Dragon Fang being found there… but that's probably nothing."
Violet looked at him for a moment.
"Well… it's not a bad idea," she admitted. "Maybe we'll actually find something useful."
She stretched her arms and stepped beside him.
"Let's go."
Alex nodded, and the two of them left the camp behind.
They began walking through the forest, the path quiet except for the sound of their steps. Violet still looked half-asleep as she walked.
"Why do we have to go this early?" she complained.
Alex glanced at her.
"Violet… it's 12 p.m."
She looked back at him.
"Still early."
"…Lazy."
She rolled her eyes, but didn't respond.
After about an hour of walking, the cave finally came into view.
A large, dark opening carved into stone, surrounded by uneven rock formations and patches of moss.
"Well… we're here," Alex said.
Violet stretched again, this time fully awake.
"Good. Let's just get this over with."
She reached for her Poké Balls and released her team.
Weepinbell appeared first, swaying slightly, followed by Toxicroak, who stood alert and ready.
Alex did the same, releasing all of his Pokémon.
Riolu, Grovyle, Larvesta, Zorua, Ceruledge… and Gible.
"Let's move," Alex said.
Violet nodded, following him inside without another word.
The cave swallowed them almost immediately.
Darkness surrounded them.
"Ceruledge," Alex said.
The Fire/Ghost Pokémon stepped forward, its blue flames glowing brighter, illuminating the path ahead like a living torch.
"Perfect," Alex muttered.
They walked slowly, carefully.
Every step echoed softly against the cave walls. Water dripped somewhere deeper inside, and the air felt colder the further they went.
Violet stayed close, her eyes scanning everything around them.
Wild Pokémon occasionally appeared Zubat, Geodude, small cave dwellers but none lasted long.
Any that approached were quickly defeated.
They continued deeper.
And deeper.
After a while, Alex spoke.
"We should go further in. This part is probably already picked clean. Too many people come here."
Violet nodded.
"Yeah… I was thinking the same thing. If we want anything good, we'll have to go deeper."
So they did.
The cave narrowed, then widened again. The light from the entrance disappeared completely, leaving only Ceruledge's flames to guide them.
Minutes passed.
Then more.
Until finally.
They reached a split.
Two paths.
One leading left.
The other right.
Alex stopped.
Violet did the same.
The air felt heavier here.
Quieter.
"Should we split up?" Alex asked, glancing at her.
Violet thought about it for a second.
"…It's probably the best option," she said. "We'll cover more ground that way."
Alex nodded slowly.
"Alright. Meet back here in two hours. Max."
"Got it."
Violet didn't hesitate.
She turned and walked down the left path, her figure quickly fading into the darkness, her Pokémon following closely behind.
Alex watched her go for a moment.
Then he turned.
"…Let's move," he said to his team.
And with that
He stepped into the right path.
Alone.
(Part I Alex's Part: Predator and Prey)
The moment Alex stepped into the right path, the atmosphere changed.
It wasn't just darker.
It was heavier.
The air felt thick, almost suffocating, and the faint sounds of dripping water echoed endlessly through the narrow tunnel. Ceruledge's flames flickered slightly, reacting to something unseen.
Alex didn't rush.
He knew that this place was far more dangerous now that they were this deep inside
"Stay close," he said quietly.
His team adjusted immediately.
Riolu moved slightly ahead, eyes closed, sensing the surroundings. Grovyle climbed along the rocky walls, keeping the high ground. Zorua stayed near the shadows, blending perfectly with the darkness. Larvesta hovered near the center, while Ceruledge led the way.
Gible stayed behind Alex, alert.
Perfect formation.
Alex's eyes scanned everything.
Scratch marks on the walls.
Broken stones.
Claw imprints.
"…This isn't just a cave," he muttered. "This is the territory of somebody."
He raised his hand slightly.
"Slow."
They advanced carefully.
A faint sound echoed ahead.
Movement.
Alex stopped instantly.
Riolu's eyes snapped open.
Something was coming.
Fast.
"Left side, now!" Alex commanded.
The team split just as a blur shot through the tunnel.
A sharp, slicing attack hit the ground where they had been standing, cracking the stone.
Zubat? No.
Too fast.
The creature revealed itself.
A Golbat.
Its wings spread wide, screeching violently.
"Annoying," Alex said calmly.
"Riolu, Force Palm when it dives. Grovyle, cut off its movement from above. Zorua, stay hidden. Wait for my signal."
The Golbat attacked again, diving straight toward Larvesta.
"Now!"
Riolu stepped forward, timing perfectly.
Force Palm connected mid-air.
The Golbat screeched as it staggered
But didn't fall.
"Grovyle!"
From above
Leaf Blade.
A clean hit across its wing.
The Golbat crashed to the ground.
"Zorua. Finish it."
From the shadows
Shadow Claw.
Silence.
The Golbat didn't move again.
Alex didn't even look at it twice.
"Keep moving."
They went deeper.
The tunnel widened.
That's when Alex noticed something.
Water.
A shallow underground stream flowed across the cave floor.
"…Bad terrain," he muttered.
Before he could react
The water exploded upward.
"Back!"
A massive shape emerged.
A Whiscash.
Its eyes locked onto them as it let out a deep rumble.
Alex's mind moved instantly.
"Water and barely any Ground… Gible is useless here."
The Whiscash slammed its tail into the ground
The entire cave trembled.
"Mud Shot incoming," Alex warned.
"Grovyle, mobility. Don't stay still. Larvesta, support from range. Riolu, stay ready for close combat if it surfaces again."
The ground shifted.
Mud erupted upward.
Grovyle moved instantly, leaping from rock to rock, avoiding the attacks.
Larvesta fired Embers, forcing Whiscash to stay partially submerged.
"Not enough," Alex muttered.
Then
"Zorua. Illusion."
Zorua's eyes glowed.
It transformed.
Into Grovyle.
Now there were two.
The Whiscash hesitated.
Just for a second.
That was enough.
"Grovyle Leaf Blade, full power!"
The Grovyle dropped from above
Direct hit.
The Whiscash roared as the attack cut deep. super effective.
"Riolu, Force Palm, now!"
Riolu dashed forward, striking the exposed body.
The combined attack forced the massive Pokémon back into the water
Then stillness.
Alex exhaled slowly.
"…Good teamwork."
But he didn't relax.
If anything
His eyes sharpened.
"The deeper we go… the worse it gets."
They kept moving.
Minutes passed.
The cave grew tighter.
Darker.
More dangerous.
Then
Alex froze.
"…Wait."
Riolu reacted instantly.
Something was wrong.
Too quiet.
Too still.
Alex looked at the ceiling.
"…Above us."
Too late.
Multiple shadows dropped at once.
Three Sableye.
Their gem-like eyes gleamed in the darkness.
Ambush.
Alex smirked slightly.
"…Finally something interesting."
"Sableye rely on confusion and darkness," he said quickly. "Don't fight blindly."
The Sableye moved erratically, disappearing and reappearing between shadows.
"Zorua counter their shadows. Don't let them control the field."
Zorua's dark energy spread, disrupting the shadows around them.
"Larvesta, light up the area!"
Flames flared brightly.
The darkness retreated.
The Sableye hissed.
Now visible.
"Ceruledge."
The Pokémon stepped forward.
"Take control."
It moved like a phantom.
Fast.
Precise.
Night Slash.
One Sableye fell instantly.
The other two attacked together
But Riolu intercepted, blocking one while Grovyle cut off the other's escape.
"Finish it."
Within seconds
Silence returned.
Alex stood still for a moment.
Then nodded.
"…We're adapting well."
But then
He saw it.
At the end of the tunnel.
A faint glow.
Not fire.
Not water.
Something else.
Alex's eyes narrowed.
"…That's not natural."
He stepped forward slowly.
Each step careful.
Each breath controlled.
"Stay ready," he whispered.
His team tensed.
Whatever was ahead
Was stronger.
Smarter.
And far more dangerous than anything they had faced so far.
Alex smiled slightly.
"…Good."
And he kept walking into the darkness.
The faint glow grew stronger as Alex advanced.
Each step echoed louder.
Each breath felt heavier.
And then
He saw it.
The tunnel opened into a wide cavern.
Crystals lined the walls, glowing faintly with natural energy. The air here felt charged… almost alive.
But that wasn't what made Alex stop.
It was the presence.
At the center of the cavern
A massive figure.
Yellow fur. Black markings. Red eyes glowing like embers in the dark.
A Luxray.
No.
An Alpha Luxray.
It was enormous. Larger than any normal Luxray Alex had ever seen. Its body was covered in scars, its muscles tense, electricity faintly crackling around its fangs.
And behind it—
A nest.
Alex's eyes narrowed immediately.
There were items scattered around it.
Shards. Stones. Something glowing faintly.
"…So that's it," Alex whispered.
Riolu stiffened.
Grovyle froze.
Even Ceruledge's flames flickered slightly.
They all felt it.
This thing was far beyond them.
The Luxray's head slowly turned.
It had already noticed them.
Their eyes met.
And in that instant
Alex understood.
If they fought directly…
They would lose.
"Don't attack," Alex said quietly.
His mind was already moving.
Fast.
Analyzing.
looking for spaces in which he has some advantage
The nest.
The distance.
The terrain.
The Luxray's position.
"It's guarding," he muttered. "Which means… it won't stray too far."
That was the weakness.
Not strength.
Not power.
Instinct.
"Zorua," Alex whispered.
Zorua looked up.
"Illusion. Make a copy of me. Run to the left path. Make noise."
Zorua's eyes glowed.
In an instant
A perfect copy of Alex appeared.
The illusion sprinted toward the left side of the cavern, kicking stones, making as much noise as possible.
The Luxray reacted immediately.
A deep, threatening growl echoed
Then it moved.
Fast.
Lightning surged as it chased the illusion, disappearing into the darkness of the left tunnel.
"Now," Alex said.
They moved instantly.
Straight toward the nest.
"Quick," he muttered.
The ground was covered in scattered objects.
Alex grabbed the first thing he saw
A glowing stone.
Smooth. Blue. Water energy radiating from it.
water stone
He didn't hesitate.
Into the bag.
Next
A yellow shard.
No.
Not a shard.
A Thunder Stone.
His eyes sharpened.
"Perfect."
He grabbed it too.
Then
Something else caught his attention.
A fang-shaped object, glowing faintly with draconic energy.
His heart skipped.
"…Dragon Fang."
The rumors were real.
He reached for it
But
A sound.
A roar.
Zorua's illusion had been broken.
"Shit."
The Luxray was coming back.
Fast.
"Grab it and go," Alex muttered.
He lunged forward
And the moment his fingers touched the Dragon Fang—
The Luxray appeared.
Right behind him.
Too fast.
Too close.
"MOVE!" Alex shouted.
Electricity exploded through the cavern.
Alex barely turned
Claws.
Sharp.
Fast.
He dodged—
But not completely.
The Luxray's claws tore across his side.
"—AH!"
Pain exploded through his body.
A deep cut opened across his torso, blood instantly soaking through his clothes.
He stumbled back, barely keeping his balance.
"GO!" he shouted again.
His team reacted instantly.
Ceruledge stepped forward, blocking the Luxray's path for a split second.
Riolu grabbed Alex's arm, helping him stay upright.
Grovyle created distance.
Larvesta fired Embers to distract.
Zorua reappeared beside them.
"RUN!"
They didn't look back.
They sprinted through the tunnel.
Behind them
A roar.
Furious.
Relentless.
The Luxray was chasing them.
The ground shook with each step it took.
Electricity crackled through the cave, striking the walls, lighting everything in flashes of white.
"Faster!" Alex gritted his teeth, holding his side.
Blood dripped with every step.
His vision blurred slightly
But he didn't stop.
Couldn't stop.
The Luxray was gaining ground he was getting closer
"Split the path!" Alex shouted. "Zorua illusions behind us!"
Zorua created multiple copies, scattering in different directions.
The Luxray hesitated for half a second
Then chose the real one.
"…Of course it did," Alex muttered.
They kept running.
The tunnel twisted.
Turned.
Narrowed.
Then
Light.
The intersection.
And
"Alex?!"
Violet.
She stood there, shocked.
Her eyes immediately dropped to his wound.
"What the hell happened to you?!"
"No time!" Alex snapped. "RUN!"
She didn't ask again.
"TOXICROAK, Smokescreen!"
A thick cloud filled the tunnel behind them.
"Weepinbell, Vine Whip, collapse the rocks!"
Vines slammed into the cave walls, knocking loose stones and partially collapsing the path behind them.
The Luxray roared, smashing through the debris
But it slowed it down.
"THIS WAY!" Violet shouted.
They ran together now.
Side by side.
Out of the tunnels.
Toward the exit.
The light grew stronger
Closer
And finally
They burst out of the cave.
Fresh air hit them instantly.
They didn't stop.
Not until they were far enough into the forest.
Only then
Alex dropped to one knee, breathing heavily.
Blood still dripping from his side.
Violet turned to him, serious now.
"…You're insane," she said.
Alex let out a weak breath.
"…Maybe."
He opened his bag slightly.
Inside
The Water stone
The Thunder Stone.
And the Dragon Fang.
He smirked faintly.
"…But it worked."
In the distance
A roar echoed from the cave.
The Luxray hadn't forgotten.
And it wasn't done.
