Chapter 284 - The Island Arc Begins

The morning sea stretched endlessly beneath a bright blue sky.

Sunlight danced across the gentle waves as the ferry cut through the water toward the island. A salty breeze drifted across the deck, carrying the excited chatter of Class 3-E.

Koro-sensei sat there like a deflated balloon, muttering under his breath.

"Not a boat... oh no, not a boat! Everything in my head is going to pop right out!"

Kurahashi swung her anti-sensei knife at him with a bright grin.

"Oh! Get up, Koro-sensei! Get up! You can see it now!"

Sugino pointed excitedly toward the horizon.

"Six hours from Tokyo!"

Maehara pumped his fist.

"The place where we'll kill Koro-sensei! The island!"

Kurahashi looked around the deck before suddenly frowning.

"Wait... where's Erika-san?"

Maehara blinked.

"Akira-kun is missing too."

Nagisa tilted his head.

"They always disappear together. I wonder what they're doing."

Ritsu's voice came from one of the nearby phones.

"Their last known location was Akira-kun's room about thirteen minutes ago... but they locked me out."

Nakamura smirked.

"They're probably in their room being all lovey-dovey. Let's not disturb them."

Most of the class nodded in agreement.

No one wanted to interrupt the couple.

Only Ritsu remained silent, deep in thought.

---

Inside Akira's room, the atmosphere was completely different.

Wearing a purple Hawaiian shirt, Akira was currently pinned down on the bed. Erika straddled him, breathing heavily. Her elegant pink-and-white frilly dress was slightly rumpled, and her usually calm blue eyes had turned a deep, hungry crimson.

Akira gently held her by the waist.

"Wait, Erika... calm down. You might spill it on my shirt."

Erika leaned closer, her voice low and strained.

"I can't... This is your fault. I'm like this because of you."

She wrapped her arms around him and sank her fangs into his neck, drinking greedily.

Akira didn't resist. Instead, he embraced her and gently stroked her head.

"It's not like I'm going to run away. Drink slowly."

Erika didn't reply.

She continued drinking, making sure not a single drop stained their clothes or the bedsheets. Explaining bloodstains later would be far too troublesome.

After a while, she finally pulled away.

She wiped the corner of her mouth with her thumb before quietly licking it clean.

"...It's all your fault. I used to be fine drinking once a day. Now I can't even go a day without drinking twice."

Akira gave her a helpless smile.

"I'm innocent, okay? My body just keeps evolving, making my blood more potent... and apparently tastier."

Erika narrowed her eyes.

"What are you? A Pokémon?"

She stood up, smoothed out her dress, and brushed her hair back, her face still slightly flushed.

"Anyway, we can't stay here much longer. The others will start looking for us."

Akira reached out, wrapped his arms around her waist again, and rested his forehead against her stomach.

"But I want to spend more time with you..."

Erika sighed before gently patting his head.

"Come on. I'm sure everyone's already waiting. Now be a good boy and get up."

Akira reluctantly let go.

"Fine..."

Erika straightened her hair one last time before looking at him.

"Why don't you ask Ritsu what's happening outside?"

Akira pulled out his phone and unlocked it.

"Okay."

The moment the screen lit up, Ritsu's face appeared, looking noticeably annoyed.

"Finally, I can get through. Seriously, what are you two doing every time you lock me out?"

Akira answered casually,

"Things lovers do. It's personal."

Erika immediately smacked the back of his head.

"Don't listen to this idiot."

Ritsu narrowed her eyes and leaned closer to the screen, carefully examining Akira.

"...There are puncture marks on your neck, Akira-kun. What happened?"

Both Akira and Erika froze.

They had completely forgotten that, after losing that much blood, even Akira's healing factor needed a little time to erase the bite marks.

Ritsu looked at the still-pale Akira, then at the slightly flushed Erika, and narrowed her eyes.

"Hmm... the wound looks like a bite mark. Similar to one from a vampire bat... or a fictional vampire. Combined with how pale Akira-kun looks, how healthy Erika-san appears, her superhuman strength, and her obvious dislike of garlic... I can reasonably conclude that she is a vampire."

Both of them froze.

Akira forced an awkward laugh.

"Haha... nice joke. Vampires can't go out in sunlight and have all kinds of weaknesses, remember? This is just... some medicine Erika injected into my neck because I looked pale. And she's blushing because I hugged her earlier. That's all."

Erika nodded a little too quickly.

"Y-Yes. That's right."

Ritsu stared at them for a long moment.

"...Hmm. Suspicious."

Erika quickly cleared her throat.

"Anyway... what's the situation outside?"

Ritsu remained silent for a moment before answering,

"We'll be arriving at the island shortly."

Erika's eyes widened.

"I see. I'll go check on everyone else. You two take your time."

With that, she practically fled the room.

Ritsu watched the door close before turning her attention back to Akira.

"You two are definitely suspicious."

Akira simply shrugged as he sat up and stretched.

"When are we not suspicious? Anyway... how are the repairs on the Moon Infiltrator coming along?"

Ritsu's expression softened slightly as she switched topics.

"You almost completely wrecked it during the last flight. It's nearly fully repaired now. In a few more days, we'll be able to take it out again... although I'm not sure it'll be able to reach that same speed."

Akira waved his hand dismissively.

"I'll deal with that later. I've been a little busy spending time with Erika these past few days. How's the assassination plan progressing?"

Ritsu immediately adopted a more professional tone.

"Everything is proceeding according to plan. The blackmail film has been completed, and my real body has also been secretly transported to the island."

She paused before letting out a quiet sigh.

Akira noticed.

"What is it?"

Ritsu lowered her gaze for a moment.

"...My real body is still just a fixed artillery platform. Even though I have the highest firepower in the class, I can't move on my own. I can't support everyone the way I'd like to."

She paused again.

"Sometimes I wonder if I should just attach wheels to it or something."

Akira remained silent for a few seconds as he looked at her.

In the original story, Ritsu had never really considered improving her own body. She focused on upgrading her software, but never questioned the limitations of the platform itself.

The fact that she was thinking about it now meant she was becoming self-aware much faster than she had in the original timeline.

As far as Akira was concerned...

That was real progress.

A small smile appeared on his face.

"Well... if you'd like, I can help you build a proper body."

Ritsu's eyes widened.

"Really?"

Akira leaned back comfortably.

"Yeah. You helped me a lot with the Moon Infiltrator. Think of it as me returning the favor."

Ritsu stayed quiet for a moment before giving a firm nod.

"Then... I'd like to accept your offer."

Akira smiled.

"Sure. So, what kind of body do you want?"

She thought for several seconds.

"I'm not sure yet. Can I tell you after this mission?"

Akira nodded.

"Of course. This mission comes first. We'll think about it afterward."

Ritsu smiled brightly.

"It's a deal."

Just then, a small notification appeared on her screen.

"Oh. We'll be docking soon."

Akira placed a hand on his neck.

The puncture marks had already disappeared.

"Then let's go. An assassination vacation is waiting for us, after all."

He slipped his phone into his pocket, stood up, and walked out of the room.

---

All of them disembarked on the island and entered the resort hotel that had been booked for them. As they settled in the lobby, a server approached with trays of brightly colored juice.

"Welcome to Fukumajima Resort Hotel! Please enjoy this tropical juice with our compliments."

Mimura took a long sip and sighed in pure happiness.

"Man, this is life!"

Kimura looked around, eyes sparkling.

"Everything's just so bright and vibrant!"

Akira accepted a glass and examined it carefully for a moment before taking a drink. Erika, however, set hers down without touching it.

She leaned closer and asked quietly,

"Are you really going to drink that? You know it has…"

Akira gave a small shrug.

"I know. But I'm sure my body can create antibodies for it soon enough. It'll make what happens later easier. You don't drink it, just in case."

Erika pinched his cheek hard.

"Why are you always so reckless? You always worry me."

Akira whined, rubbing his face.

"Sooorrryyyy… forgiveeee meeee…"

Nearby, Koro-sensei was already resting under a large umbrella, looking content.

"Ah, youth… This place is good. We can go directly to the beach from the hotel. Seems they have plenty of leisure activities available, too."

Muramatsu grinned.

"We'll save the you-know-what till after dinner. First let's have some fun, Koro-sensei!"

Yoshida nodded eagerly.

"In groups, like we did on our school trip!"

Koro-sensei laughed.

"Nuruhuhuhuhuhu! I'm all for it. Play hard, kill hard! That's what makes this summer vacation for Assassination Classroom!"

And so the students split into groups, taking turns keeping Koro-sensei busy while the rest quietly worked on the assassination plan for that night.

Hayami and Chiba moved along the higher ground, carefully searching for the best sniping positions.

Nagisa, Karma, Kayano, Nakamura, and Sugino worked together at the floating chapel, preparing the trap.

Meanwhile, Akira and Erika handled a more delicate task: installing Ritsu's true body underwater.

Erika stood on a small boat, watching the water. Akira had already gone under several times to connect the systems. After a while he surfaced, taking a deep breath.

Erika handed him a bottle of water.

"Are you fine? You've been down there for a while."

Akira wiped his face and smiled.

"I can go for a while without breathing underwater. Anyway… did I tell you this swimsuit looks really good on you?"

Erika, who was wearing the new Victorian-style swimsuit they had bought the other day, gave him a flat look.

"Just like the fifteenth time today."

Akira's eyes sparkled.

"I can't help it. You look so beautiful."

Erika's cheeks turned pink. She pushed his head back under the water with one hand.

"Enough rest. Go finish the work."

Akira sank beneath the surface again, already planning to compliment her the next time he came up for air.

---

By the time all the preparations were finished, evening had arrived.

Koro-sensei, who had spent the entire day accompanying every group, was now completely charcoal black. He sat under a parasol and let out a satisfied sigh.

"Phew! What fun that was! No wonder I'm so tan."

The entire class stared at him in unison.

"That's beyond tan!"

Kimura pointed.

"Even your teeth are tan."

Okano muttered,

"So much for reading your expressions…"

Isogai clapped his hands once.

"All right, Koro-sensei. After dinner comes the assassination."

Koro-sensei nodded, still pitch black.

"Yes, yes. First the shipboard restaurant!"

Mimura sighed.

"Didn't the octopus have enough fun?"

Kimura shrugged.

"Meanwhile we had to pretend to have fun while we got everything ready. Well, if we kill him today, we can just enjoy ourselves tomorrow."

Mimura nodded.

"I guess. Let's give this some oomph and finish the job."

---

On the boat, the dinner was exquisite.

Isogai, as class representative, stood and raised his glass.

"Here we are at the shipboard restaurant we've rented out. Let's slowly savor our meal as we take in the night sea."

Koro-sensei, still completely black, eyed them warily.

"I see… First you'll get me good and seasick to weaken my capabilities, eh?"

Isogai smiled politely.

"Of course. That's Assassination 101."

Koro-sensei waved a tentacle.

"You're so right. But will it really work that well? Seasickness is no match for a teacher who's all pumped up anticipating an assassination—"

Everyone screamed at once.

"You're too dark!"

Koro-sensei tilted his head.

"Am I really that dark?"

Nakamura groaned.

"Forget your expression… we can't even tell front from back!"

Kataoka added,

"It's too confusing. Do something, would you?"

Koro-sensei laughed.

"Nuruhuhuhuhuhu! Have you forgotten, students? I can molt, and in so doing, shed this dark skin!"

In a blur of Mach 20 speed, he molted and returned to his usual yellow color.

"There! Back to normal."

Kayano blinked.

"That's your monthly molt."

Koro-sensei puffed up proudly.

"Just another of its uses. I tend to save it for particularly sticky situations, but… eh?"

He suddenly went silent. Sweat appeared on his head as realization hit.

"Ahhhh!!"

The entire class thought the same thing at the same time.

What an idiot… hobbling himself before an assassination. How have we not been able to kill this screw-up yet?

Akira, who had been watching quietly, stood up with Erika.

"Then, Koro-sensei, everyone… we'll be on our way."

Koro-sensei turned to them, already recovering his usual cheerful tone.

"Oh? Going for another romantic adventure?"

Erika answered flatly,

"Of course not."

Akira smiled as they walked away.

"To our positions, Koro-sensei. We'll give you a good surprise."

Koro-sensei waved a tentacle after them.

"Then Sensei will look forward to it!"

---

Akira stood alone at his designated position, a perfect vantage point overlooking the floating chapel. In his hand was only a single anti-sensei pistol. The night sea was quiet except for the distant sound of waves and the soft crackle of the radio in his ear.

Erika's voice came through the coms.

"Akira, I'm in position."

Akira replied calmly,

"Good. Me too… but Erika, we're in the middle of a mission. You should finish your sentence with 'over.' Over."

There was a short pause then Erika asked in confusion.

"…Why did you say 'over' two times?"

Akira explained.

"Because I'm telling you to finish your sentence with 'over.' Over."

Erika asked again.

"But you just repeated what you said."

Akira started.

"Because—"

Ritsu's voice cut in sharply.

"Guys. I know both of you are doing your weird flirting thing, but the mission is about to start."

Akira and Erika answered at the same time.

"We are not flirting."

Ritsu ignored them.

"Step one is finished. They're moving to step two."

Akira watched the distant chapel through his scope.

"Oh. The 'make him seasick to weaken him' part worked well. Now they're going for the psychic attacks."

Erika's voice came back dry.

"Those are embarrassing videos of Koro-sensei, not psychic attacks."

Akira smiled slightly.

"It is for me."

Even though they couldn't see the footage from their positions, they could hear everything clearly through the coms. The students' laughter and Koro-sensei's panicked reactions filled the channel.

Akira muttered,

"…Oh, this is cringe."

Erika asked,

"Why did he eat tempura tissues? That makes no sense."

Akira deadpaned.

"Erika, he's a talking octopus that can move at Mach 20. He made no sense from the beginning. Anyway… step two is working well too. Now we wait for step three — high tide."

A few minutes later, the high tide rose exactly as planned. Because Nagisa's team had shortened the supporting pilings of the chapel that afternoon, the water flooded the platform and soaked Koro-sensei's tentacles while he was still distracted by the psychological attacks.

Akira's voice stayed steady.

"Next. The promised seven tentacles will be shot by the seven students. The main scenario begins."

Right on cue, Ritsu's voice rang out.

"Commence operation."

At the same moment, seven anti-sensei rounds tore through the air and severed seven of Koro-sensei's tentacles in perfect unison.

Five seconds passed.

Next, the hut walls were yanked apart by four speedboats driven by Karma, Hara, Kayano, and Takebayashi, leaving only the open platform and a fully exposed Koro-sensei.

Thirty-five seconds.

Then students shot out of the water on flyboard jet packs, forming a hydraulic cage that completely trapped him.

Fifty-three seconds.

Akira spoke quietly into the coms.

"Koro-sensei can't handle rapid environmental changes. Chapel, high tide, water wall. His reaction speed is reduced. Next part."

The remaining students surrounded the cage. From beneath the surface, Ritsu's main artillery body rose, guns unfolding with a series of heavy mechanical clicks.

"Commencing volley. Take aim — the area around Koro-sensei, one meter in total."

A dense wall of anti-sensei BBs erupted, forming a continuous storm of pink pellets that boxed him in without directly striking him.

Akira's voice was calm and precise.

"Koro-sensei is highly tuned to attacks that make contact. Creating a wall of bullets is the best approach. Erika… it's your turn."

Erika's eyes turned crimson.

"Okay."

She lifted a massive water-filled sphere — the size of a small room — and, with pure dhampir strength, hurled it high above the hydraulic cage. Without her power, the throw would have been impossible.

Akira tracked it, calculated the trajectory in an instant, and fired.

The sphere burst open in mid-air. A torrent of water crashed down, completely soaking Koro-sensei.

Then came the final attacks.

Akira adjusted his aim, ran the numbers one last time, and fired. His single BB hit the dense wall of pellets, ricocheted between them in a calculated chain, and redirected dozens of rounds from every direction at once, creating a 360-degree kill zone.

At the same moment, Chiba and Hayami's sniper rounds streaked in.

Ritsu's voice was quiet.

"Game over~"

The timer hit sixty seconds.

Koro-sensei's thoughts, for once, carried a note of genuine respect.

You've done well… to come this far!

An explosion of pure energy erupted.

The shockwave threw water high into the air and hurled every nearby student into the sea.

Everyone stood in silence, this is the first time a reaction like this occurred.

For a moment, it looked like the assassination had succeeded.

Karasuma's voice cut through the chaos as he ran forward.

"Stay alert! He can regenerate! Watch the water!"

Everyone turned their weapons toward the spot where Koro-sensei had stood. Bubbles kept rising. Fingers stayed tight on triggers, ready to fire the instant he reappeared.

Then something rose from the water.

But what rose instead was a transparent sphere.

Inside it floated Koro-sensei's head, still smiling.

The entire class thought the same thing at once.

What the hell is that?
