One by one, the suspects were escorted off the bus, boots hitting cold ground.
Guards lined the pathway, watching.
Processing. Inside, the lights were harsh. Clinical.
Everything moved fast. Names were called. Numbers were assigned. Personal belongings—whatever remained—were taken and logged. Instructions hurled in like a storm.
"Remove outer clothing." "Stand still." "Face forward."
Uniforms were issued, plain and orange.
