Chapter 454 - Chapter 454 Since the entrance ceremony duties generally fell to the Student Council

In fiction, the more mundane a story is, the more boring it becomes. But for a real person, a "peaceful life" is the ultimate goal. Perhaps this mindset was a remnant of his previous life.

Even so, his life had been a whirlwind of international incidents involving the Great Asian Alliance, the New Soviet Union, the USNA, Great Britain (Australia), Germany, and France. It wasn't that he went looking for trouble; usually, he was just dragged into someone else's paranoia.

Historically, the three World Wars were the peak of casualties, but the sheer number of conflicts in Europe compared to other regions was like night and day.

Since the entrance ceremony duties generally fell to the Student Council, Miyuki (the President) and Tatsuya and Minami (council members) were handling the main event. The Public Morality Committee and the Department Federation usually handled the grunt work, like directing new students. However, Yugen had been drafted to help the Student Council, just like last year, partly because he was seen as a reliable support for Miyuki.

The primary reason, however, was that this year's freshman representative was a member of the Mitsuya family. Yugen stood before the Student Council room and rang the bell.

"It's Kagurazaka. May I come in?"

"Yes, please, come right in," a voice responded.

When Yugen entered, he found Miyuki, Tatsuya, Minami, and Izumi from the Student Council. From the Public Morality Committee, there were Mikihiko and Kasumi (who had been brought in because she knew the representative). Then, the freshman representative—Shiina Mitsuya, formerly Shiina Nagano—stood up and practically threw herself into Yugen's arms.

"Brother! It's been so long!"

"Yeah. I know you're happy, but from now on, make sure you maintain a proper distinction between senior and junior."

"Yes, I understand!"

As he patted her head, Yugen could feel that Shiina was becoming an increasingly attractive young woman. Even if he was a reincarnated soul, they were biologically siblings from the same parents. No matter how beautiful she became, he couldn't allow himself to feel desire for her.

She was much better than she had been during her extreme "brother complex" phase, but her physical affection toward him hadn't changed. He knew Tatsuya would likely be jealous of the bond, but it was an unproductive thought.

The others in the room watched with warm, albeit slightly strained, smiles. Miyuki, in particular, was wearing a smile so bright you could almost see a manga speech bubble coming from her that said, "I'm so envious." Realizing this, Yugen gently told Shiina to let go. Understanding the atmosphere, she stepped back.

"By the way, you're still wearing those earmuffs. I thought you'd overcome the hearing issue."

"But, Brother... this is the CAD you gave me."

Both he and Shiina possessed "Abnormal Hearing"—the ability to pick up sounds far beyond the human range. This phenomenon had surfaced alongside the improvement of their magical perception. Without countermeasures, entering a noisy city was enough to drive someone to the brink of insanity.

The magic researchers who examined them diagnosed it as "unconsciously exercising magic that constantly reinforces their own hearing," yet no actual magical traces were found. At that point, the concept of Psions magnifying auditory functions wasn't officially recognized.

Through experiments using his innate magic Kaleidoscope, Reinforce, and Osiris Sight, Yugen had discovered that his constitution made it easier to gather environmental information—specifically, his body was naturally inclined to utilize surrounding Sions and Psions more than the average magician.

To put it simply: while magicians recognize surrounding Psions to cast magic, most do not perceive all the information contained within them. The "Linker Core," the heart of a magician, acts as a safety valve, unconsciously filtering information. Additionally, the "Information Reinforcement" barrier that protects the body usually activates automatically. As a magician's power grows, their defense against external information typically increases.

However, in individuals with congenitally high magical sensitivity, that defense is extremely low. One might assume they have an abnormal constitution because their defense is weak. Physically, that's true—but magically, it's the opposite.

Their abnormal hearing was the perfect example. If they tried to control their hearing with magic, it might dampen physical sound, but the drawback was that their sensitivity to magic itself would become dull.

Further investigation revealed that their "Information Reinforcement" was overreacting to the environment. This caused Sions and Psions to flood the Linker Core, keeping it in a constant state of activation. These non-material particles accumulated within the Linker Core and overflowed into the Psion body, causing a sensory overreaction. This excess information bled into their physical five senses, creating hyper-sensitivity.

The balance between the mental body (composed of Sions), the physical body, and the Psion body that connects them is paramount. This is why ancient practitioners underwent rigorous training; they understood that tempering the body was just as important as the mental strength required to stabilize magic. In modern magic, however, this fundamental aspect of being a magician is often neglected.
