Nadia's blood ran cold.
She understood where this was going. She didn't want to understand, but the pieces were falling into place, forming a picture she had no desire to see.
She knew these officials. Had dealt with them for years. They were treacherous to their own people, and she had no reason to believe they were any better to their families.
There were also rumors about affairs, mistresses, secret deals that betrayed their wives, hidden scandals.
She had never investigated because it wasn't her place, wasn't relevant to the negotiations.
But Mika had investigated.
And from what he was implying, he had done more than investigate.
She didn't want to believe it. Couldn't believe it. Her son—her baby boy couldn't possibly have done what she was thinking.
But still she couldn't help but ask...
"What do you mean, Mika?" Her voice came out smaller than she intended. "I don't understand what you're saying."
