The turmoil triggered by the death of Zorah Magdaros was, for Logan, something of a good thing.
Within the Elder's Recess, various lifeforms became far more active. Through their battles, Logan was able to obtain more information about attribute energies from the Radiant Crystal Butterflies parasitizing them.
Day after day, immersed in continuously aggregating data and performing ratio-based conversions using Terastal energy, Logan once again experienced a rare sense of fulfillment.
If not for the fact that, after Zorah Magdaros's death, the Xeno'jiiva cocoon—having once again absorbed an enormous amount of life energy—was drawing ever closer to hatching, and the disturbances it caused were growing increasingly intense, even shrinking the range Logan could perceive, he might truly have forgotten his original purpose for coming to the Elder's Recess.
The Admiral raised his head, looking up at Logan in the sky, where flames and lightning traveled together.
Flames coiled around his body. Thunder roared within the blazing clouds. Several electric arcs as thick as buckets circled around him, like lightning serpents that had already been tamed.
One after another, Terastal spikes—comparable to cruise missiles—were catapulted outward through blue-violet flames resembling Calamity Flame. Under the influence of the coiling electric arcs, their flight speed increased even further; they could even change direction midair, ultimately striking with precision the massive Anjanath Terastal statue that Logan had erected.
Watching that Anjanath statue—something that could be called a work of art, and, if one ignored the material, could absolutely be described as lifelike—get blasted into slag just like that, the Admiral felt a bit of regret, but at the same time he was very curious: clearly there were so many monster statues that could be made, so why was it that, ever since he saw Logan set up a target, it had always been this Anjanath statue that was obviously the same one, aside from having a different pose?
Staring at Logan—who looked distinctly excited, whether because the experiment with the new technique had succeeded or because the statue had been blown into pieces—the Admiral felt as though he had caught onto something, but constrained by the relationship between them, the Admiral thought it was better not to pry into that kind of matter.
Up in the sky, after once again confirming that his development of the new attribute energy had succeeded, Logan was also in a relaxed and cheerful mood.
However, after being happy for only a few seconds, he quickly began the development of the next attribute energy.
After confirming that he truly had no way to use Terastal energy to convert into these two kinds of energy—water and ice—Logan completely gave up on these two attribute energies.
He instead focused his attention on the two attributes of lightning and dragon.
Lightning attribute energy did not seem to have any problems now; it had even reached the degree of being able to stir up weather phenomena.
But the dragon attribute energy, which had originally been smooth sailing at the very beginning, left Logan at a loss.
In the games of his previous life, there were all kinds of different opinions about how dragon attribute energy was born.
But in the end, the only conclusion he could draw was that dragon attribute energy could either be perfectly driven only by Forbidden-level creatures, or be far more prominently mastered by creatures like Deviljho, Ebony Odogaron, Nakarkos, and others of that type that shared clear common traits.
And the common trait of this category of creatures was that, within their predation chains, in addition to ordinary organisms, they also included a large number of large monsters.
Some even went so far as Ebony Odogaron preying on Odogaron, its original species—something that could be called outright fratricide.
This made it evident that dragon attribute energy—capable of producing the effect of "dragon-sealing power" and possessing extremely strong suppressive force against ordinary attribute energies—harbored a kind of innate malice toward the vast majority of living beings in this world.
Moreover, this kind of energy might exist within all living organisms; it was just that the amount contained within any single organism was too small—so small as to be completely imperceptible.
At present, within the Elder's Recess, dragon-attribute creatures were pitifully scarce. As things stood, Logan's points of reference consisted of no more than himself, who possessed Marvel Scale, and the three Ebony Odogaron active within the crystal forests of the Elder's Recess.
The number of reference samples was simply far too small!
How he wished that, during this period when life energy was especially active, a Deviljho would appear in the Elder's Recess—preferably a Savage Deviljho with so much dragon attribute energy that it felt on the verge of overflowing.
Just as Logan was at his wits' end over dragon attribute energy—
With special approval from the Commander, an elite squad led by Wyverian hunters successfully passed through the Everstream tributaries of the Wildspire Waste and arrived at the Elder's Recess.
This time, there was no Compiler recording things at the side, nor any Felyne companions providing assistance. All procedures had been handled in advance, and the objective was entirely focused on completely resolving the Xeno'jiiva cocoon.
As the two most eye-catching members of the Fifth Fleet, Darren and Aiden were naturally part of the squad.
However, unlike Aiden, who was wearing Kushala Daora armor, and the other two members of the recommended team, who were equipped with Teostra and Kirin armor sets, the equipment on Darren's body was actually the latest masterpiece of the Second Fleet Master. It featured a large number of Terastal gemstones used as energy circuit nodes, forming the Cinder Moon Dragon Set, which looked both magnificent and ferocious.
According to the Second Fleet Master's description, the Cinder Moon Dragon Set came with Fire Attack Boost Lv.6 by default and also carried three alchemical skill bonuses: Focus Lv.2 and Attack Boost Lv.3. When paired with its unique skill, Pride of the Clear Moon Queen, it could, upon triggering fire-attribute attacks, simultaneously trigger powerful toxin damage originating from the Cinder Moon Dragon.
The toxin of the Cinder Moon Dragon, while not as bizarre and troublesome as that of Chameleos, was a purely hemorrhagic poison. Like dragon-sealing power, it could suppress the energy conduction of certain Elder Dragons, with the exact effect depending on the monster's strength.
This armor set effectively pushed Darren's current offensive capability to an extremely high level. Aside from somewhat weaker defensive capability, and a vulnerability to dragon-attribute and ice-attribute attacks, it had no major shortcomings.
In fact, during this recent period of turmoil in the New World, Darren had undertaken many high-difficulty and dangerous missions over at the Ancient Tree.
According to his thinking, what he most wanted to exchange for were materials from a further-evolved Sunblaze Dragon. Unfortunately, when he handed over a reverse scale that had been shed during the period when the Sunblaze Dragon first began to exhibit obvious Terastalization to the Second Fleet Master, the reply he received was that, because the principles of Terastal energy had not yet been fully understood, and because the scales from this stage of the Sunblaze Dragon, in addition to having higher fire resistance, also contained a large amount of dragon attribute energy, the situation was extremely complex.
For a time, neither the Smithy nor the Alchemy team was able to analyze the energy circuits within it. As a result, the Sunblaze Dragon armor set that Darren wanted could not be forged. Even Blazing Wings could not be further enhanced and would have to wait until they finished analyzing the conditions of that reverse scale—at the very least reaching a level where it could actually be utilized.
As for little Loren, the offspring of the Sunblaze Dragon, he had not yet grown to the point where his strength was sufficient. Equipment crafted from his scales, while still being fine pieces far surpassing ordinary biological materials, was somewhat lacking when compared to the materials obtainable from other Elder Dragons.
In the end, after weighing everything over and over, only the Teostra armor set and the newly developed Cinder Moon Dragon armor set were able to meet Darren's needs.
Ultimately, taking into account compatibility as well as Darren's own wishes, they successfully gathered the materials required to forge a full set of Cinder Moon Dragon armor through exchange.
For the energy nodes' dragon gem, Terastal crystals from the depths of the Ancient Tree were used as substitutes, mixed with a considerable amount of high-quality third-generation Radiant Crystal Butterfly materials. In this way, this unique new Elder Dragon equipment was successfully forged.
