"Of course, thousands of years ago, dwarves used the large wild cattle in the forest lowlands as a basis to breed and proliferate a mountain-adapted, hairy and rough livestock. Dwarves began taming early, raising goats as our source of wool, dairy, and meat. From late spring to early autumn, dwarves drive the goats to alpine pastures for grazing, allowing them to grow on nutrient-rich mountain grass. When winter arrives, dwarves lead most goats into fortress cave elevators, feeding them fungi and leftover grains before slaughtering some for winter."
