Noel's hands flutter around Jade's shoulders, still weak and shivery from his orgasm. "Why are you being so sweet to me?" he asks. "You're never this gentle."
Jade pauses for a split second, eyes darting down then back up to Noel's. "Maybe I should have been," he says softly. "You deserved a better first time than that, Noel. If I'd known, I would have done things differently."
Noel swallows. "If you're just being nice because you feel sorry for me—"
"It's not about that." Jade lowers his head to tuck his face into the crook of Noel's neck, breathing hot air over the sensitive skin. "I don't feel sorry for people."
"Then what is it?"
"I don't know." Jade nips at Noel's throat, framing Noel's waist with both hands. "I just know that when I think about it, I feel upset."
That sounds an awful lot like pity to Noel. Because there's no way it could be anything else.
