Chapter 95 - Code of Ethics

The door of the Kessler house closed softly behind them, leaving behind an atmosphere far quieter than the front yard. Valerie walked ahead into the living room, slipping off her heels with an easy motion before turning to look at Daniel, who was still standing awkwardly near the door, as if unsure whether he truly belonged there.

"Just sit," Valerie said, her tone gentle but firm, gesturing toward the sofa in the middle of the room.

Daniel gave a small nod and walked over. His steps lacked their usual confidence. He sat at the edge of the sofa, his back straight, hands clasped together in front of him, too stiff for someone who should feel at ease.

Valerie watched him for a moment before taking a seat across from him, her body leaning slightly forward. She didn't speak right away, giving him space. But her gaze was clear, waiting.

A few seconds passed.
