Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Cassander and Bian

"Cassander Lynx is the youngest Great General in the Empire's history and he's also Gai's greatest rival." Shion explained.

"His greatest rival?" The officer asked.

"That's right, we all started out together in

Great General Tenjin's army. Cassander had the most talent out of all of us so he was given his own command long before us."

"More talented than even the General?"

"Yes, in fact, Gaileo was the least talented among us. Though I'm sure he wouldn't like to remember those days."

Meanwhile, Gaileo was leading the charge across the battlefield. Once he arrived he saw the Imperial forces thrashing the enemy.

"Looks like the battle is already over." Captain Aimaru said to Gaileo.

"No, it's just beginning." Gaileo responded.

"How pathetic, our forces are being destroyed. I suppose they are facing two Great Generals. Still, this is what I hired those mercenaries for." The rotund king said.

Suddenly, a massive army of men in red armor appeared. They were led by a man on a black horse who carried a large bronze colored war club. As the man got closer it was noticeable that he had eyes of two different colors. One red and one blue.

"That's Guan Shi." Genbu said.

"I can feel his aura from here. That story about him beating my brother, it could be true." Gaileo said as he suddenly got a nervous chill down his spine. Though he wouldn't admit it himself.

"I'll handle him." A voice said from behind Gaileo.

It was the other Great General stationed at that battlefield, Bian Ruri. He was a large muscular man with golden armor and a teal mullet.

"Great General Bian, are you sure that you can take him?" Gaileo asked.

"Of course, a Great General should never lose a one on one fight. If he did then he would cease to be a Great General." Bian responded.

"That's exactly right. And that's why a loser like you could never be a Great General." A voice said as it approached.

The man who was speaking was a man of a slight build with white pale skin and short white hair as well as having purple markings on his face. He wore the gold armor of a Great General. He was Great General Cassander Lynx.

"Did you enjoy the welcoming I gave you earlier?" Cassander asked.

"Oh did you do something? I didn't notice." Gaileo said with feigned ignorance.

"Of course a monkey like you wouldn't notice a cloud of poison that's right in front of you." Cassander responded.

Gaileo tried hard to maintain his composure, but Cassander's needling egged on Gaileo's fiery temper. Despite his best efforts he was about to snap.

"Now, now Gai, it isn't very beautiful to lose your temper you know." Shion said as he arrived.

"Oh look who it is, the sissy with the silly looking hair." Great General Cassander added.

"Oh? I think the Great General may have an unfortunate accident soon." Shion said while brandishing his sword but still smiling.

"I thought it wasn't beautiful to lose your temper?" Gaileo asked.

"No, but it is beautiful to follow your heart."

"Shion, I'm starting to think that you're making up all these rules about beauty."

"Of course I am, I'm the world's leading expert in beauty after all."

"I guess that makes sense."

"If you three are done, then I'm riding to face the enemy." Great General Bian said.

Great General Bian rode his white steed into the battle. The newly arrived enemy soldiers stood back and let their commander take the field to face him.

There were no words exchanged between Bian and Guan Shi. All that was exchanged was a furious barrage of powerful blows. At the end of the exchange, Great General Bian was knocked back, his horse's hooves digging into the ground and he went backwards.

"He actually sent Great General Bian flying! That guy really is a monster." Benji said as everyone on the battlefield stopped to watch their match.

"Yeah that's insane." Gaileo added.

"Tch, if that impresses you, that just goes to show that you're not familiar with real power." Cassander commented with a smirk.

The bout between Bian and Guan Shi continued with the dual cleavers of Bian clashing with the golden war club of Guan Shi. Each blow sent shockwaves throughout the battlefield.

"Not bad." Guan Shi said.

Great General Bian did not respond, he extended his arms and dropped his cleavers.

"What? Is he giving up?" Gaileo asked.

"Don't be a fool, this fight is just getting started." Cassander said.
