Luke looked blankly toward Singularity.
Dared he believe what he had just heard?!
Pass? PASS?!
One question She had turned Invalid by using logic and clever wording that even he hadn't seen coming.
The second, She just skipped?!
The worldly, womanly figure suddenly stirred, giving Luke the impression that She had just sighed.
[Surely Mr. Fool has told you that some things are better left unknown,] Singularity said.
[Oh, heavens!] Miss Justice screamed in Luke's mind as he gaped at hearing those words. [The Boundary is… This… We must… MUST… report this to Mr. Fool!]
Luke felt his mouth dry up.
Every time he came close to unearthing mysteries regarding his own world, he found himself falling deeper into the hole.
Still, he disagreed with Miss Justice that it was something they needed to report to Mr. Fool.
Because all the clues since the very beginning suggested that… He already knew what The Boundary was. If not completely, then most likely, He had guessed it. Perhaps that's why He had never suggested he ask the same of either Singularity or Conformity, Luke believed.
[As I cannot answer your present question,] Singularity continued, taking his silence as an unsaid yes, [you can ask another question. There will be no more Passes, though. If you do not ask something I cannot answer, then your turn stands forfeit.]
Luke instantly felt horrible.
It was like Singularity was a child and was enjoying the game of questions and answers.
However, like a child, She was also just making up rules at random and as seemed fit for the game, taking no opinion from him.
Suddenly, Luke had a feeling that this was all right as well.
At least, it was better than having no game at all; better than having no option to ask a question and a chance to get an answer, by far.
Despite being thankful for this fateful meeting, Luke knew he must be careful playing a game with an Existence like Singularity.
Compared to Conformity, Luke… feared Singularity much more.
There was no telling what She was up to at any given time.
Conformity was more destructive, but also equally direct.
Singularity, on the other hand was complex.
He needed to ask a question, nonetheless.
Luke let out a breath, thinking over it.
Yet, breath after breath, he found himself returning to The Boundary.
In a way, for the current him, there was no matter more important than The Boundary.
Because only the Apostles of Mr. Fool knew what kind of horrible existences lingered on the Moon outside The Boundary.
If his first question became Invalid because of poor wording, and his second question was put aside because of the nature of the vast forces involved, then…
Luke's eyes lit up.
He shared his question with Miss Justice.
[… You will be overreaching a touch with this one,] she said, hesitating. [A much better assumption is still an assumption.]
It was an assumption, Luke knew.
But his intuition told him that this was it.
So, going with his gut feeling, he asked, "Why don't you or Him monitor The Boundary constantly?"
Overreaching was an understatement.
Luke had just assumed that neither Singularity nor Conformity kept an eye on The Boundary around the clock, despite clearly knowing its purpose and nature… perhaps better than anyone else.
Worse, Singularity didn't reply outright.
With every moment that passed, no matter if time even mattered here or not, Luke could feel his heartbeat speeding up.
[Monitoring The Boundary is…] Singularity finally said with a cold voice. [… is dangerous for us.]
"…?!"
[…?!!!] Miss Justice mimicked Luke's intense expression.
Just what in the name of Mr. Fool was The Boundary, for it to make just looking at it dangerous for even Singularity and Conformity?!
Even as this question boiled in Luke's mind, he did get an idea of why neither Singularity nor Conformity had prevented Star from turning The Boundary's infinitely small region transparent.
First, both of Them thought The Boundary was indestructible.
Second, neither of Them could monitor The Boundary continuously to know what kind of experiments Star was running on it.
A glance must have sufficed for Them to see Star using Skycrawler to test its integrity.
But They could have just as easily missed Star using her Quirk for another, more dangerous experiment.
In the end, it was just… bad luck.
[We don't have much time,] Singularity said, Her worldly figure stirring as if looking around. [Are the Monocles related to the Evil God on the Moon?]
Luke wanted to go blank again, but Miss Justice instantly placated both him and herself.
With Alexander, She must have seen the Shadow-with-Eyes beyond The Boundary as well.
There was no need to act like he didn't know anything about it anymore.
"Most likely," Luke nodded. "Why did the you from the Past corrupt me, while the you of the Present hasn't?"
[…] Singularity seemed to truly struggle with using another Pass, Luke felt. [Sigh. I… We fell…]
"… fell?" Luke repeated.
Before he could ask for clarification, Singularity added, [… We lost our godhood.]
"…!!!"
[Don't worry!] Miss Justice screamed and gasped. [Taking notes! Continue!]
[Is the Evil God an enemy of Mr. Fool?] Singularity asked.
This time, Luke didn't have to wait for Miss Justice's guidance.
Also, unknown to him, his voice instantly gained a deep, reverent tone. "All Evil Gods are enemies of Mr. Fool," he answered proudly and confidently. Then, he asked, "Why can't you invade the mind of every person with a Quirk?"
Singularity had already said She could not do so.
But Luke really wanted an explanation, as that would not only tell him about Singularity's limits, but also about Conformity's.
With one of Them clearly being the Apostles' enemy, it was best to know how much They could influence the people near him.
[Quirk Invasion causes ripples in Fate,] Singularity answered, Her words coming out hastily. [It erodes our authorities.]
And the entire answer went right over Luke's head.
There it was — the authorities. Again.
If nothing else, he must discuss this answer and the authorities when he visited the Gray Castle next time, Luke told himself.
The blue radiance suddenly brightened.
It was here, Luke felt.
The last question.
[Is this Evil God… this Mr. Fool's enemy…] Singularity asked. [… behind Klein Moriarty?]
Luke did not even get time to think, because, somewhere in the distance, in the infinite blackness, he could see… red.
Conformity was here!
Luke did not know why Amon had given this name to Dr. Sam.
He did know that this was a chance to put Singularity on Amon's tail without actually telling Her about Amon.
If Amon ever asked him if it was he who had unleashed Singularity upon Him, then Luke could just reply truthfully and say no.
So, not worrying about his chance to ask a question, and completely misunderstanding Miss Justice's stunned silence, Luke shouted —
— YES!
