Finding the shipyard where the Compound Monocle was arriving had been an easy task.
Luke had just needed to divine which shipyard in the country posed the most danger to him and then make a field check.
There were over a thousand shipyards in the country.
The number was big, but so was the combined Spirituality of Luke and Nyx.
Spirit Pendulum Divination consumed the least amount of Spirit Points anyway. After hours of divination, Luke and Nyx had brought down the number of possible locations to a mere dozen. Then, all they had needed to do was ask Melissa and Mushroom-nimi to hack the CCTV cameras on these docks and look for any unusual activity.
By afternoon, Luke had already confirmed which shipyard Shie Hassaikai had finalized for the trade.
…
Eight hours before the drug trade.
Around a mile away from the dock, on top of a building, Dr. Blessed stood at the roof's edge, his long, white greatcoat flapping against the high, salty, and humid gusts of wind.
On his shoulder rested Nyx, preening her feathers as the sun set in the background.
From behind the high-tech mask, Luke zoomed-in on one area of the shipyard, where a crane was meticulously placing several containers in two columns, effectively blocking that area from both sides.
Even if Luke hadn't seen anyone dressed as a Yakuza member, for a Cryptologist, this, in itself, would have been enough of a clue to confirm his last remaining doubts.
But the Shie Hassaikai seemed to have become overconfident.
Because, in the middle of the columns of containers were three people, all wearing plague masks.
Luke didn't know much about the Shie Hassaikai, other than its Boss — Overhaul. And Eri, of course.
In his previous life, the matter itself had been important enough to make headlines, even reaching Blue Site.
However, that had not been the case for the other members.
It was only recently, when Luke began to feel that the matter related to Eri was about to come into the picture, that he tasked Melissa and Mushroom with gathering information on the Yakuza organization.
Still, because the Shie Hassaikai had become popular only after the Eri incident in his previous life, aside from the general structure and some members' names, not much information was available to the police and other Hero Agencies in this life as well.
So, as Luke looked at the two taller and one child-like Yakuza members, he didn't know what to make of them.
Nor was he interested.
What did interest him, though, was what the group of three was doing.
The two taller members were standing on either side of the smaller one, who was seated on the concrete floor with his back toward Luke and his face, hidden behind a plague mask, turned toward the sea.
That… was odd.
"What the fuck are they doing over there?" Nyx asked, narrowing her eyes.
The telescopic lenses over her pupils, the same ones that had gotten Luke disqualified in the Sports Festival, were nowhere as sophisticated as the technology within the high-tech Apostles' masks.
However, they were good enough to give her an idea of the situation going on from that distance.
But that was mostly an issue of skills, Luke believed.
If Melissa had designed the same lenses, given she had access to all the resources, she could have done a much better job than Mei Hatsume.
Bringing his thoughts back to the game, Luke decided to take a closer look.
Nyx, already knowing what he was thinking, slashed the space next to them using Descorrer.
In the next moment, dressed as a common shipyard worker, and with a different face, Luke walked out from a patch of darkness, Nyx becoming a black hat on his head using Body Manipulation.
Perfectly mingling with other workers, Luke closed in on the location where the containers were being lined up.
Then, making an excuse, he approached a slit between two containers through which the three Yakuza members were clearly visible.
And something instantly caught Luke's eyes.
In front of the seated, child-sized Yakuza member, there was a Mecha toy.
If that was it, then Luke's eyes wouldn't have widened to the extreme.
His eyes widened because of the indescribable glyphs that were drawn on the toy, prompting Miss Justice and Nyx to let out a gasp.
Those symbols…
"… It can't be…" Luke mumbled in pure shock. "Miss Justice… Is He…"
[No…] Miss Justice paused after rejecting the ill thought. [Amon's not anywhere around you. But those symbols… Yeah. They are from Mr. Fool's world. Specifically used for when praying to a God… like the Pupilless Eye in Mr. Fool's case. But even I have never seen those symbols before. Never…]
"I got a bad feeling about this…" Nyx complained.
Luke licked his lips.
By now, he knew that Miss Justice had the most information from Mr. Fool's world. However, she was limited in what she could share with him, depending upon the situation. Most of it was truly of no use to him, he believed. However, some of that information could harm him if he knew too much of it.
After attending Tarot Club meetings back-to-back, Luke had learned that much.
Still, for the System to not even have heard of these symbols…
That truly unnerved Luke.
Then, another question bubbled in his mind.
Was the child-like Yakuza member conducting the ritual… a Quirk-user?
Others might not be able to tell. But, he? He could, using his Beyonder ability and his scientific experience combined.
[Be careful…] Miss Justice warned, knowing what he was planning.
Luke nodded, activating Spirit Vision.
Or… he almost activated Spirit Vision.
Because, just as he was about to look at the three Yakuza members' Spirit Particles to tell if they were Quirk users or not, his Danger Intuition had gone… nuclear, a visible tremor running down his spine, making even Nyx shake.
Even Amon hadn't terrified him this much.
The fear… the threat of doom… the horror of death… had never been so strong.
And, simultaneously, as Luke kept standing in place, dumbstruck in terror, Miss Justice's ghostly voice rang in his mind with palpable apprehension.
[You must not look directly at God…]
