Chapter 669: The Debt Brought Home
The talisman needed a stable departure point.
Leon gave it two.
He displaced a narrow strip of space beneath the courier's boots, just enough to split the location the transfer was trying to fix. The talisman attempted to settle its connection, failed, and began drawing more energy from the man holding it.
The courier looked down.
Leon was beside him before he could make another choice. He caught the man's wrist, cut off the flow feeding the talisman, and took the case from under his arm.
The transfer collapsed with a sharp crack.
Ice bound the courier's hands before he hit the gravel. Leon lowered the case onto the wagon step and inspected its seals. One had bent beneath the man's grip, but it remained intact.
Good.
Behind him, someone dropped a spear.
"On your knees," Ira said. "Hands where I can see them."
