Chapter 596: No Witnesses
Qingyue set a pace that was not a conversation.
She did not tell Leon to keep up or look back to see whether he could. She simply went north across the broken stone, moving fast enough to turn every approaching ridgeline into a momentary decision before leaving it behind.
Leon understood the test within four steps.
He did not try to match what she was truly capable of. Whatever Qingyue was, she stood at least where the Moonless Shadow Leopard had stood and probably well beyond it. Trying to prove otherwise would only show how badly he wanted to be believed.
But the pace she had chosen was not her limit. It was a comfortable travelling speed for someone who had never needed to worry about distance, and it sat inside what Leon could maintain all day.
He closed the thirty paces between them and settled beside her without letting his breathing change.
