Loriel rested in one of the bedrooms inside Leon's house.
Her breathing remained steady.
Leon checked her condition repeatedly over the next several hours. Nothing was wrong with her body anymore. Her exhaustion simply ran too deep for ordinary healing to remove.
Ira and Seraphine refused to leave.
Vyra stayed as well.
The room remained quiet until evening.
By then, every survivor had returned home, and the settlement leaders had received the final list of casualties. Leon had ordered support for the families of the dead, but there was nothing more he could personally do that night.
Loriel still had not awakened.
They moved several chairs near her bed.
No one wanted to discuss rewards at first.
Vyra eventually broke the silence.
"My trial did not test my strength."
Ira looked toward her aunt.
"What did it do?"
"It took my strength away."
Vyra rested her arms across her knees.
