Heart of the Dragon Chapter 3: Day One.

What… How… Why…

Where…

Where was this?

What was this place?

Where was she?

Snow… there was snow… everywhere.

She stood alone in an endless expanse of snow on all sides.

Rhaenyra Targaryen gazed up at the skies, holding out her hand, watching as snowflakes fluttered down to the ground. One landed in the center of her palm, and she felt a shiver run up her arm, down her spine.

She stared ahead at the endless void of white, scanning the horizon for anything or anyone.

Why was she-?

Her head jerked up, hearing something behind her.

She spun around and gasped, now standing in front of a dilapidated structure she didn't recognize. Looking around, Rhaenyra saw she was no longer in a tundra but a forest she had never been to, in front of a crumbling mansion. She would've seen more if it weren't for the locked gate with it all chained up with a large padlock to it.

Taking a glance back, she saw a pathway leading into a forest.

Her head snapped back in the direction of the mansion, feeling and seeing light appear. Rhaenyra's mouth opened slightly, eyes widening at the sight of someone she had met a literal day ago appearing in what were particles of light.

It was Roxas.

And not a moment later, she saw him rise to his feet after collapsing onto the ground moments prior.

She rushed over to his side and was about to ask just what was going on. However, she all but froze in her spot with what she saw. The blue eyes that held much life to them were outright absent.

It was startling and rather disturbing to see such lifelessness in his eyes, in anyone's eyes, really.

The only times she'd seen such absence was how her mother turned out each time she suffered a miscarriage or stillbirth. The life growing inside of her being snuffed out in such horrid displays always broke her. Yet over time, her mother was able to get back on her feet and try to live for her family.

But even those moments were ill-compared to just how devoid Roxas' eyes were. It was as if there was nothing behind his irises and the face he conveyed was as blank as a canvas.

She reached out, about to ask just what was going on and where they were located when an unusual sound was heard behind her. She turned around and saw the source coming from an orb of black fire with purple and blue undertones erupting from the earth. The Dragon Princess felt a strange sensation of unsettled dread at the sight of this dark apparition.

It extinguished moments later with a tall man in black with the hood drawn up to heavily obscure his features.

She subconsciously stepped back and in the process of the man walking forward, resulting in her standing behind the blue-eyed blonde. She could only wonder just what was going on.

"You seek answers." The hooded man spoke with a baritone voice, surprising the Targaryen at his deep bass. Roxas nodded absentmindedly, saying nothing.

With a wave of the man's hand, stylized letters of light appeared in the air. Rhaenyra looked at them and read as they spelt out SORA.

"You feel nothing." The hooded man continued. "Nothing is real."

"What?" Rhaenyra said only to gasp, throwing her hand up to her throat.

'What was that?' She thought in alarm. How could she speak but the words not come out?

"I can give you purpose." The hooded man spoke up, interrupting Rhaenyra's thoughts.

With another wave of his hand, the hooded man caused the letters to swirl around her and Roxas. She subconsciously stepped closer to Roxas nervously, trying to keep up with the spinning letters to no avail. They sped up significantly where they became a blur. Once they reached their crescendo, the man thrust his hand forward causing the letters to cease their movement with a flash of light.

In the center of it all, a stylized X appeared between the rearranged letters.

It spelt…

"Roxas…" The blond spoke, his tone equally as devoid as his eyes were.

"That is right- the new you."

Rhaenyra looked up to properly see what lay underneath the man's hood, courtesy of the light between them. His tanned skin was Dornish with peculiar rustic orange eyes. And from what she could somewhat make out, he bore silver hair.

'A Valyrian?'

Before she could question things further…

"Ugh…"

She woke up.

Groggily, Rhaenyra turned in her bed and sought her covers when realizing she tossed them off of her yet again. The cold momentarily washed over her, leaving her in some discomfort. She didn't want to get up as it would make her leave the relative comfort of her bed, but she had no choice as her covers were lying on the floor.

"What was that about?" She muttered.

The young Princess now held a troubled look, trying to properly replay the dream she had just had.

"Roxas…" She whispered. "Why am I dreaming of him?"

That honestly sounded strange for her to say out loud. Now, having said that aloud, the Princess felt heat creeping up her neck to her face.

"Gods…" She brought her pillow over her head to outright cover her embarrassment.

She did not want to have her be like those dumb, lovesick maids with such a question coming out of her mouth.

-Scene Cut-

Meetings at the Small Council chamber are sporadic at best. Some are scheduled, others are brought up for emergencies or sudden urgencies. If it was the latter ones, then they often occur in the dead of night.

This time, it happened in the early morning. Where the sun barely peaked in the horizon, but it was still dark and dreary upon the land with the sudden news.

"Reports arrived not long ago of attacks occurring from Flea Bottom to the Mud Gate. No one knows who was behind it, but the smallfolk claim it to be from monsters. Regardless, many were slain and reported missing." Ser Otto Hightower said, reading a collective report from multiple guards across the city.

Seated at the head of the table, King Viserys took in this dire bit of news as his eyes scanned the chamber and saw its present occupants.

The Small Council, the governing body that advises the king of Westeros. They were essentially the most influential people in the realm.

There is the Hand of the King, Ser Otto Hightower. Master of Coin, Lord Lyman Beesbury. Master of Laws, Lord Lyonel Strong. Master of Ships, Lord Corlys Velayron. The Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ryam Redwyne. And the representative of the Citadel, Grand Maester Mellos.

There is, of course, an odd placement for the Commander of the City Watch, only when he's present to give out reports for the meeting. However, the City Watch Commander often reports to the Master of Laws or the Hand of the King and leaves it at that unless necessary. However, Prince Daemon Targaryen is the odd one since he took the position.

Other than that, there haven't been any other placeholders for the illustrious council… well, at this time. There used to be a Master of Whispers, but that hasn't been used in years.

But back to the matter at hand…

"Will there be proper funerals for the unfortunate?" Viserys obviously asked. It was a common courtesy, especially with such a massive killing from a sudden attack from some unknown force.

Lyonel Strong held a deep and troubled frown, shaking his head. "Therein lies the issue, your grace, there are no bodies."

"No bodies?" Corlys Velaryon parroted, a small, disbelieving expression. "How can there be no bodies?"

"Were they taken?" Lyman Beesbury inquired anxiously.

"Otto?" Viserys said, seeing his Hand's brows furrowed, trying to comprehend what he was reading.

"The reports are unclear. There was an attack and many people have gone missing but… there is no mention of bodies being left behind or any to be found." Lord Hightower murmured with evident uncertainty.

"...Then I'm honestly confused with the particular issue at hand." Viserys said, now a bit frustrated. "If there was a mass slaughter, as you've just told us, Otto, then where are the bodies? Not to mention signs of the attackers. Where did they come from? Where did they flee to?"

"I am honestly bewildered by these reports, your grace. This is highly unusual." His Hand stated, placing the report down in front of him.

"Obviously." Corlys snorts out. "And where was Prince Daemon in all of this? He is the Commander of the City Watch, is he not?"

"No doubt coupling with his whore with many of his men." Lyman says in a rare instance of insult to the king's brother.

"He was in the midst of fighting these apparent attackers off." Lyonel Strong interjected. "He spoke to me before this council meeting. He's actually in the city with the Gold Cloaks at this very moment. Prince Daemon informed me of his intentions to investigate if perhaps there are any stragglers or perhaps more information as to the attack perpetrated last night."

The King now leaned forward in the direction of his Master of Laws. "Then what, pray tell Lyonel, did Daemon report?"

"Whereas the weapons of his fellow City Watch didn't phase the attackers, his sword was able to make work of them."

"Darksister?"

That is passing strange for a detail to consider. Only one of two swords belonging to House Targaryen were able to do anything at all whereas everything else did not?

"He also spoke of something unusual with these invaders. Most of them appeared to be… sentient shadows."

Looks of bewilderment and confusion appeared in the various occupants in the Small Council chamber.

"Sounds like something out of a murmur's tale." Maester Mellos sniffed dismissively.

"If only it was that simple." Otto countered. "That appears to be a recurring detail from all these gathered reports. If it were from only Daemon, I would have not have so readily believed it, but many men and women and even children all had their statements recorded, with a single constant detail. What attacked them weren't normal people, but creatures or things they described as coming from the shadows."

"Creatures?" Corlys noted, sitting up now. "Not people?"

Otto simply slid the report in the Sea Snake's direction, the man picking it up to read it himself.

"An attack such as this is something that needs to be addressed immediately, your Grace." Ryam Redwyne stated with certainty. Despite the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard getting up there in age, he was no less imposing, his tone conveying the authority and experience that came with decades of service and experience. Not to mention his short tenure as Hand of the King under King Jaehaerys. "Such an attack in such a sudden manner is no doubt already known or will be known across Westeros in a matter of days. The reaction from this will be one of concern and uncertainty."

Lyman Beesbury nodded, an anxious face for the others to see. "It could also cause issues with the Heir's Tournament."

"Lords, Ladies and Commoners might have a sense of reservation if they believe the city to be unsafe." Lyonel remarked, evidently troubled by this notion. "This can cause unrest if we do not address it soon."

Corlys grimaced, setting down the report, leaning back into his chair. "Hopefully Daemon will whip the men into shape. Being more than capable in preventing another attack such as this. Even then, it would be grave for a repeat, much less an embarrassment."

Viserys thrummed his fingers against the table, processing everything he had just heard, his other hand held up as a means of keeping the council silent until he could think of something to say.

They all waited patiently, eyes on their King, who kept his eye on the marble sphere in front of him.

"Are you to tell me that a month before the tourney dedicated to my heir, King's Landing suffered a sudden, and unprovoked attack? And that we have no means of understanding who caused this and why this was done? Was there no one responsible for this?"

Honestly, with this attack, Viserys might as well start looking into finding a Master of Whispers after some point in his grandfather's reign. Who knows what may happen under his watch after so many years of peace and relative prosperity.

"Otto," Viserys turned to his hand, holding a tense look that caused the Hightower to actually shift in his seat. "Is there nothing that we could glean from this? A motive? A suspect? Any disgruntled Lord or, or, or… is there truly nothing?"

The Hand folded his fingers together, placing them on the table.

"It is still too early to discern whether or not this was the work of a displeased House or something far more sinister." The Hand admitted. "We are still trying to make sense of just what attacked our capital and what happened to all the people who had gone missing. With that said, there is another detail I should mention. This was brought to my attention minutes before this meeting. There was someone there in the attack. Not taking part in the killings, but preventing them. Daemon and many others reported seeing someone in dark, pitch black clothing wielding unusual looking swords as they too were able to slay these invaders. With great ease, from what several of the Gold Cloaks reported."

The mention of the peculiar weapons drew attention from the others in the room.

When it was originally brought up that the Targaryen sword Darksister being the only thing to take care of these invaders was very unusual and was very hard to believe. But with the peculiar swords this… interloper wielded made them think of something else.

"Valyrian steel?" Corlys mused aloud.

"Could be." Lyonel nodded slightly. "Valyrian steel is speculated to be… unique, asides from how durable and strong they are." He then focuses back to the King's Hand. "What else can you tell us, Ser Otto?"

The Hightower pulled out additional parchment, unfurling it and going over several details. "People stated one was unusually white while the other was dark as the night. Even with what light shined from them."

"What can you tell us of this… figure in black?" The Maester inquired.

Lord Hightower read through several written reports of eye witnesses and appeared to scoff in disbelief several times. "Apologies, your Grace, my Lords. I am only just reading some of these reports for the first time. It says here the smallfolk believe that this individual was blessed by the gods, wielding light in his hands. Sorcery and magic, if they are to be believed."

"A sorcerer? Preposterous." Mellos spat out.

The only recorded practitioners of the arcane are located beyond the Narrow Sea. Even then, it's very speculative. The last known ones -as far as many believe- died in the Doom of Valyria.

"I am just as bewildered on this as you." Otto states, settling the parchments down.

Pondering silently for a few moments, Viserys looks towards the far end of the table. "Corlys. You've traveled the world on your various voyages. What do you make of this? Have you heard or encountered anything like this before?"

Lord Velaryon leaned back, rubbing his chin in thought, thinking to make a proper response. "I've seen much in my journeys. Things many of you may never believe. Many of my treasures I keep in my home of Driftmark come from the places I've visited in order to remember what I've witnessed. And with what I gathered… it may be left to debate if it's real or fantasy."

Mellos shook his head. "We are trying to discern fact, Lord Corlys, not dabble in sorcery and witchcraft."

The Sea Snake let out a derisive scoff. "My wife, our children and House Targaryen have dragons. They are considered fire made flesh. Magic given life. The apex of what remains from the old empire from across the Narrow Sea."

"Tangible, physical creatures that have been studied, analyzed and known for thousands of years. They are creatures, nothing more." Maester Mellos contemptuously stated.

There was an audible clearing of a throat and the Maester sagged his shoulders slightly.

"Your Grace." Mellos apologetically said, bowing his head slightly.

"We can debate about this topic for hours on end, but will come up with nothing." Viserys looks towards Lyonel. "I want you to inform my brother to keep us informed of everything happening on the streets of the capital. Rotational patrols and guards at all times. I want more men on the streets at night if that was when these assailants attacked. I want my city safe. Not just for the Heir's Tournament but for the future. I cannot hold the title of Protector of the Realm if my own home is under threat."

"Of course, your grace."

"Now… if that would be all…"

The members of the Small Council rose from their seats and began leaving the chamber. However, one person remained behind in order to talk to Viserys alone… aside from Ser Ryam Redwyne being present of course.

Seeing the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard present, and knowing his Hand wants a private discussion, Viserys asked Ser Ryam to give him and Otto the room.

Once the man left, the Hightower finally went into what he wanted to speak of.

"Your Grace," Otto spoke in a delicate tone, measuring his words carefully. "I wish to ask you of other… rumors I have recently heard of. Concerning your daughter as well as my own. About a young man who was seen yesterday in their company."

"You mean Roxas?" His Hand nodded. "Why bring this up, Otto? Now of all times instead of later."

"I am merely concerned for their safety just as much as yours, your daughter and your wife. Also, this comes from the concern of a father. Better to discuss while it's still fresh and hasn't settled."

Viserys could see where his Hand and friend was coming from but strangely, he waved off his concerns.

"I am already keeping a close eye on the boy, Otto. I am not accepting him outright. He may have already become my daughter's friend, but it'll take some time for me to warm up to him."

With all Roxas spoke of yesterday, and from what accounts he's heard from both Rhaenyra and Ser Harrold Westerling so far, there is still much of this mystery placed upon the king's lap. He isn't going to be trusting of him quite yet.

Otto nodded in approval. "That is a good action, your grace. One can never be too cautious. With what transpired last night, I fear that we must be more diligent in the coming weeks."

"Yes. Troubling times after so long. And here I thought my reign would be peaceful."

"Nothing is perfect, unfortunately. Nothing is everlasting."

Viserys let out a small 'hmph', smirking slightly and clapped Otto on the shoulder. "Spoken with wisdom, old friend."

Otto nodded in appreciation before refocusing on their topic of discussion. "And what do you plan on doing with this Roxas?"

"For now? Do what my wife suggested and have him open up over time. Earn his trust and see the truth of who he is."

"That may not be wise. That might give the boy opportunities to exploit."

The Targaryen frowned, looking away from his Hand. "No… No, I… strange… I understand your concerns, Ser Otto, but I find myself disbelieving such a notion. This boy, this Roxas… he doesn't seem the type. I'm curious, what did your own daughter tell you of her time with him?"

The Lord Hightower took a moment to recollect the previous night when he spent dinner with Alicent, having listened to the day she spent with this strange new boy.

"She told me that he comes from a far off land, one so far removed, he appears to be completely unaware of anything and everything in regards to the Seven Kingdoms." As Otto spoke, Viserys was quick to pick up on his tone that conveyed he didn't quite believe what his daughter told him of Roxas.

Viserys chortled at his friend's demeanor, patting him on the back.

"If that young boy is up to any trouble, we shall leave it to our daughters to tell us and we shall address him as any father would who dares bother our girls." Otto couldn't hide the small amused smirk that came up. "Aside from Aemma's earlier suggestion, Rhaenyra told me a fanciful tale of the lad and their meeting. I will find out if what my daughter has told me is true."

"If that is your desire, my King. I'll leave things to your judgement."

And with that, Otto left the chamber with Viserys being alone to gaze out towards the balcony where the sun began to break through the horizon.

'I will see to it today. I would've prolonged it, but now it has to be done soon before things proceed.' He thought as he saw the dawn of a new day.

He would've had this meeting at the Dragonpit yesterday, but his duties surprisingly took him longer than expected.

Aside from his usual ones, Viserys was focusing on the upcoming Heir's Tournament. Like any and all illustrious events, there is much to plan. What will occur, what will follow and how much it would all cost. What space in the Red Keep will need to accommodate the visiting lords and ladies; not to mention the knights.

He planned for the event to occur right around the forecasted time of his child's birth about a month from now. His son's birth.

There is a boy in his wife's belly. He believed it. He dreamt of it.

He and Aemma discussed names shortly after it was confirmed she was pregnant once again. They agreed to have Baelon if the babe was a boy. However, their daughter took it upon herself to have the child be named Visenya if it was a girl and their precious Rhaenyra would take no for an answer; to which they relented in good humor.

Viserys greatly hoped his child will be a boy. He's tried so hard to have one. But he's been so unsuccessful throughout the past pregnancies where his beloved Aemma suffered time and time again.

He also wanted to relieve the burden he didn't want to place on Rhaenyra. He didn't want his only child to suffer from having so much weight placed upon her, hence why he already has Daemon as his heir until a son is born.

But what if the gods have other plans…

Sometime after leaving the Council Chamber, Viserys made his way down to the family dining room in order to break his fast. Along the way, he saw his only child nearby heading towards the same destination.

"Rhaenyra," Viserys called out to his daughter, and she immediately turned to her father, her face brightening. She jogged over to embrace him tightly, one he returned with equal strength.

He pulled back to give his daughter a once over, hands on her shoulder.

"Did you sleep well, my dear?"

"Could have been better." She answered, a slightly strained smile appearing.

He was about to ask if something was wrong when a familiar individual made himself known.

"Your Grace."

Viserys looked over, a pleasant smile directed at the knight behind his daughter. "Ah, Ser Harrold. Apologies for not seeing you there."

"None needed, my King." Harrold graciously said. "Lord Commander."

"Ser Harrold." Ryam responded in respect.

The two small parties became one as they headed towards the family dining room. Along the way, Viserys says "I know I promised to see this… speculation you spoke of yesterday. I am sorry it didn't happen. But I would like to do it today, if it would not be too much trouble. I'll hold off on my other duties until it is finished."

His daughter smiled. She couldn't wait to show her father at the Dragonpit.

But first, a nice breakfast with her family.

And after that was done, Rhaenyra was leading her father with Sers Ryam and Harrold to Roxas' room.

"I hope this demonstration is as grand as you made it out to be, dear daughter." Viserys jested, hand on her shoulder. "It's rare to look forward to new surprises."

"Trust me, father, you will not be disappointed." Rhaenyra assured.

"I'm looking forward to it."

As they made their way towards Roxas' room, a surprising figure was coming towards that direction from another location.

"Lady Alicent?" King Viserys said, not expecting to see her.

"Oh, Your Grace," The Hightower girl embarrassingly greeted, clutching the books she had in her hands close to her chest. "Apologies for not seeing you."

"All is forgiven." He politely said.

"What are you doing, Alicent?" Rhaenyra inquired, glancing at the books in her friend's hands. "Are you reading something? Or researching?"

"Actually, these are for Roxas." Alicent answered, making the Targaryen's blink in surprise. "He had asked if there was a library here, telling me he wished to learn more of Westeros since he is not from here. I am bringing some of my own books from my room."

"That is mighty kind of you to do." The King complimented.

Alicent simply bowed in thanks at the praise.

"At least we know where he is now." Rhaenyra declared, taking one of Alicent's books out of her hands. "Saves us a lot of trouble from taking an unneeded detour. Now come on, you can come with us after we get Roxas, Alicent."

Her friend was a bit startled by this development. "Wait, where are you going?"

-Scene Cut-

On top of Rhaenys' Hill lies the home of dragons since it was built during Maegor's time.

Before the Dragonpit was built, it was once the Sept of Remembrance. A structure that was burnt down by Maegor the Cruel with his father's dragon, Balerion the Dread. The screams of all those trapped inside echoed throughout the city with the ash and smoke failing all around for a week. But as it dissipated, so too did the Faith Militant as Maegor accomplished what he sent himself out to do.

Wanting to make the Sept of Remembrance no longer remembered, Maegor had it replaced with a symbol of family in order to properly house many dragons for years to come.

After the construction of the Red Keep and learning what happened to the carpenters who made it, everyone of such profession fled the city in order to save their lives. Because of this, Maegor was forced to use the prisoners from the city's dungeons for slave labor and hire skilled craftsmen from across the Narrow Sea to construct the Dragonpit.

Presently, a carriage was making its way up Rhaenys' Hill with several members of the Kingsguard to escort the King and Princess along with a reluctant Lady Hightower and the unusual guest accompanying them.

"How do you guys ride in this thing all the time?" Roxas was unable to contain this complaint. "It's so," The carriage jolted. "Bumpy."

"It's not so bad. You get used to it." Rhaenyra assured, amused by his annoyance.

"Yeah~ I don't think I will." He responded in a drab tone, grunting from another bump that they went over. "You say that. But what if the road ain't so great."

"That is where the straps come along." Rhaenyra gestures towards the straps bolted to the walls above their heads. She then donned a cheeky look. "You weren't this bad yesterday."

"That was then, this is now."

Honestly, it was as if Rhaenyra instructed the driver to take the worst route possible just for her own enjoyment. He was gonna get queasy at this rate. And the carriage wasn't even going fast at all.

Eventually the carriage made it to its destination where soon after, the door opened up with Roxas tumbling out and landing in the dirt.

It was a comedic display for the nobles and the knights to see with some chuckling at the Nobody's expense.

"Next time, I'm walking." Roxas declared, straightening out his clothing.

"You intend on walking all the way here?" Rhaenyra joked.

"I could run if need be. Honestly, train carts are more stable than those things."

"Train Cart?" Viserys repeated. "What's that?"

Roxas was about to answer when he realized he couldn't exactly describe something that doesn't exist here.

"Something from where I'm from. Kinda like carriages but just… different." He vaguely answered.

"I would like to hear about it at some point. But that doesn't matter now." Viserys soon climbed out with a small smile. "Time to see if my daughter's tale is true."

As soon as they all stepped out and entered the Dragonpit, the King and Princess paused, both sharing expressions of confused startlement.

"Your Grace/Princess/Rhaenyra?" Harrold, Ryam and Alicent all said at once.

Roxas would have noticed them had he not been momentarily enraptured by the Dragonpit. The teen felt it as soon as he stepped foot in this place.

It permeated with an energy that he had never felt before. He didn't even know he was capable of sensing such things, recalling his time in the Organization. Never once did he ever feel anything like this.

Was this some sort of residual after effect upon recalling all his memories and abilities?

As for the Targaryens, they both were experiencing similar but vastly different reactions from what Roxas was feeling.

The Dragonpit seemed different somehow.

Neither Rhaenyra nor Viserys could say why. Perhaps it was the weather, given the overcast as it casted a gloomy appearance above the home of the dragons.

For the princess, she's come here far more often than her father, given the king had only come here ever so rarely. And her father only rode a handful of times before his dragon -Balerion the Black Dread- passed away years ago. He hadn't ridden a dragon since, much less claimed one.

Alicent was nervous, clearly not wishing to be here but was dragged in by her best friend. She opted to stay as close to the two Kingsguard as possible, as far away from any dragon that may appear.

"Your grace?" Ser Harrold spoke up, stepping forward to stand by his King. "Are you alright?"

"Is something the matter?" Ryam inquired, hand on the pommel of his sword.

Slowly, Rhaenyra and Viserys turned to face each other, realizing both had experienced the same sensation. The former was clearly unsure as to how to respond and the latter was now more guarded.

He held up his hand, as if testing the air, feeling a pressure that he had never experienced before, even when he first came to this hallowed ground. His eyes trailed over to the reason that they had come here and noticed the look of wonder and intrigue, seemingly unafraid in being here.

The King took a moment to look at the two Kingsguard and fretful Hightower, and then at the Dragonkeepers, famed for their duties in caring for the dragons, standing ready to conduct their duty.

For a moment, there was silence until he coughed into his hand, getting his daughter's attention. With a silent look of encouragement, Rhaenyra nodded at her father, knowing that now was the time.

The princess walked towards the opening where she can call out her trusted mount. Cupping her hands before her mouth, she took a deep breath and spoke aloud in High Valyrian. "Syrax~! Come to me, Syrax~!"

The call echoed into the Dragonpit and after some moments, a low rumble and shuddering could be heard as her trusted dragon answered her call. They heard the sound of her heavy footsteps and wings moving against the scorched stone, the sound getting closer to them.

After a few moments, the yellow-scaled wyrm came out from a darkened tunnel, the streaks of light from outside illuminating her body.

Syrax released a loud hiss, moving slowly, methodically towards the platform where her rider stood.

Rhaenyra held a wide smile, always glad to see her faithful companion and trusted friend. She approached the dragon, Syrax immediately lowering her head to her, with the Princess placing one hand on her chin and the other next to her eye.

"Hello there, dearest friend." Rhaenyra greeted the dragon, tone sweet and kind, leaning her forehead against Syrax. "Have you slept well? Eaten properly?"

Syrax released a small moan, nudging her head against her rider.

"Good, good, that's wonderful to hear." Rhaenyra earnestly said. "Now, I have a bit of a surprise for you. You remember, Roxas? Yes?"

At the mention of the Nobody, Syrax seemingly perked up, looking over to the company Rhaenyra traveled with and quickly spotted the blond. The princess had caught his eye and gestured for him to come forward.

Roxas came forward, not afraid but a bit hesitant.

He didn't know if he would receive the same reaction and greeting as he did yesterday. It may have only been a few pages, but Roxas managed to read up on dragons before being found by the King and Princess.

And thought it was brief, he managed to learn a particular detail about these creatures. They are rather picky and insanely selective of who they let approach them, only allowing the riders they had bonded with to come up to them with no fear or reservations.

"Uh… hello again." He awkwardly said, putting on a friendly smile, even if it was a bit forced.

Syrax took several whiffs of the air around the teen, releasing a small cooing sound. The dragon moved forward and proceeded to nudge her head against Roxas's chest. This action prompted him to rub his hand against her snout in response.

"Hey, easy there." Roxas pleasantly said, dispelling any sense of trepidation, hearing a rumbling sound coming from the dragon.

From behind, Viserys' jaw fell open, and the two knights beside him were equally as stunned. Alicent had also gasped in astonishment, throwing her hand up to her mouth.

Rhaenyra grinned widely at their reactions, going over to her dragon who was busy nudging/nuzzling herself against the Nobody. Her hand idly trailed up her dragon's neck until reaching her snout, where Roxas was currently rubbing.

"You're just an overgrown cat, aren't ya? Or maybe a dog." Roxas teased.

"A dragon is not a pet, Roxas." The Princess jokingly admonished.

He gave her a small smirk. "Oh yeah? What's this act supposed to be, then?"

Having an idea, Roxas moved further down where he went to the edge of Syrax's jaw and began rubbing underneath it.

A trilling sound came from Syrax.

Viserys almost couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Is… Is she purring?"

"Huh… I haven't heard that since she was vastly smaller." Rhaenyra commented, joining in Roxas' scratches under her chin.

"Gods be good." Ser Harrold whispered, having never seen a dragon behave in such a manner. The closest he had ever seen a dragon act like this was during the reign of King Jaehaerys Targaryen. The Old King had managed to get his faithful companion and mount, Vermithor The Bronze Fury, to become accustomed to regular people but even then, Vermithor only acted calm so long as Jaehaerys was nearby.

So to see a dragon act in this manner…

"Hey, move over." Rhaenyra suddenly spoke up, her tone playful. "You're hogging her all to yourself."

"Oh yeah? What, ya scared I might steal her away?" Roxas challenged, patting Syrax's neck with strong slaps that didn't appear to bother the dragon. In fact, she seemed to be enjoying the sensation.

Rhaenyra gasped, throwing herself atop her dragon's face. "You wouldn't leave me, would you, girl?"

Syrax let out a huff, almost as though she was insulted at being asked such a question.

"Looks like you hurt her feelings." Roxas teased.

"Only because you forced her into such a terrible situation." Rhaenyra shot back in faux-offense.

Viserys observed this interaction with growing interest and awe. He was surprised by how easily Rhaenyra seemed to be able to speak with this boy, appearing completely comfortable in conversing with him as though he had been a friend for her entire life. And his awe naturally came from Syrax's behavior around the Nobody. It was completely comfortable around him, having gravitated towards him the moment she saw him.

It had been only a day and already, the King had far too many questions with virtually no discernable answers.

Just who was this boy? Where had he come from? How and why was it that Syrax was behaving like this towards him? Would the other dragons react in a similar manner? What were his intentions, if he had any?

These thoughts were interrupted by a sudden dose of humor, courtesy of Syrax.

"Ack!" Roxas yelped out, the dragon's tongue popping out to lick him across the face. "Aw~~ Come on, Syrax! Why?!"

The princess gave a cheeky smirk. "You did want her affection. She was merely reciprocating."

Roxas squinted his eyes at her, glancing at the Wyrm. "Hey, Syrax. Rhaenyra is upset that you're not showing her the same love."

The Princess scoffed, confident that her dragon wouldn't do such a thing when Syrax craned her head in her direction. Rhaenyra went bug-eyed, realizing what was about to happen.

She held out her hands in a vain attempt to stop her dragon. "Wa-wait, Syrax! Nononononono-"

*SCHLICK*

"AHHH! SYRAX!"

And she was slobbered for her efforts, hearing Roxas laugh at his form of revenge.

After the "agonizing" licks from her beloved dragon, Rhaenyra's braided hair was absolutely frazzled. The Kingsguards needed to call upon all the years of their discipline and training to keep themselves from bursting out laughing.

Alicent and Viserys bore their own reactions. The king didn't hold back as he laughed at his daughter's expense. And Alicent hid her massive smile behind her hands as she was giggling up a storm.

"Seems you were telling the truth." The Princess heard her father quietly say behind her.

Despite her state, Rhaenyra jutted her chin up smugly. "And when have I been wrong, father?"

Viserys raised his brow at her, looking off to the side. "...Well…"

He got a playful glare in response.

Alicent stepped forward, pulling out a cloth and held it out for her friend.

"Here, Rhaenyra."

The princess took the offered cloth and gave her an appreciative smile as she did her best to wipe off her dragon's mucus.

"Urgh, mother already complained that I stunk of dragon yesterday." The Princess bemoaned, though her voice was laced with amusement.

"It appears you will have to be more thorough this time." Alicent remarked in good humor.

Viserys hummed aloud, coming up to his only child, an exasperated and overwhelmed expression for her to see.

"Well, dear daughter of mine, when you spoke of your dragon's reaction to your new friend, I never would have imagined it to be like this." The King regarded the blond teen who had been given another cloth from Alicent to clean his face. "You've made quite the impression, Roxas…"

The boy looked up at the King.

"In a day you've shown us something we thought impossible. To see a dragon respond and behave the way Syrax did towards someone who is not a Targaryen. Are you certain you have no ties to the dragon riders of Valyria?"

"I only just learned that place exists an hour ago." Roxas stated, his voice conveying no deception. "I don't have any family from there or from Westeros. This is the first time I've ever been here."

Viserys merely hummed in response, filing the bit of detail for later in hopes of unraveling this little mystery before him.

"So, now what?" Roxas asks the princess. "You wanna take her out for a flight since you're here?"

Before Rhaenyra could voice her decision on it, something else happened that was greatly unexpected.

A rumble could be heard. One rather loud. Louder than how Syrax was when she came here. And the rumble was unique. Almost sounding as though it was rhythmic.

One could say it was a song… sung by a dragon.

But it didn't come from Syrax.

In fact, it unexpectedly came from further in.

The originator eventually made its appearance following a loud series of thumping steps and loud scraping of claws. And with it soon coming into the light, many held their breath.

"My word…" Rhaenyra whispered in shock.

A dragon large in scale and size bore bronze scales, orange eyes and black horns. It bore great tanned wings with a mighty tail swaying ever so slightly as it made its appearance.

"Vermithor?" Viserys balks in utter surprise.

The Bronze Fury, the largest dragon in the world after Vhagar upon Balerion's death. And it was perhaps the most fierce, hence its moniker.

It has been riderless for close to a decade since the death of his grandfather and the last king of Westeros, Jaehaerys. Viserys had seen him many times as a child, both up close and afar; but still remembered him vividly.

Never in his wildest dreams would he see him again after so long.

"Whoa~~" He heard Roxas let out, seemingly unafraid by the Bronze Fury's appearance.

'Gods… he's much bigger than I remember him to be.'

Even the Dragonkeepers were astonished on seeing the Bronze Fury's appearance here.

"Why is he here?" One spoke in Valyrian.

"I thought he was at Dragonstone." Says the other in the same language.

"You're telling me no one noticed Vermithor coming here?" The eldest looking Dragonkeeper hissed.

"When could he have arrived?"

Gazing at the Bronze dragon, the King's group was rather on edge save for one who stared at the dragon with a look of awe.

"How is it that a dragon the size of Vermithor came here without us knowing about it?" Rhaenyra asked aloud, keeping her hands on Syrax's head, feeling her dragon shift about at the Bronze Fury's presence.

"It must have come in the dead of night." Ser Harrold surmised tensely.

"We still would have been notified." Viserys curtly stated, looking over at the attendants of the Dragonpit. "Such a matter is not so easily disregarded."

"W-we beg for a thousand apologies, sire." One of the Dragonkeepers apologized profusely. "W-We didn't know."

"Dead of night?" Roxas quietly said to himself, when his eyes widened slightly.

Thinking back from last night, Roxas recalled seeing a large shadow sweeping overhead as he was slaying all those Heartless. He didn't think much of it at the time as he was more focused on the task of taking out the Heartless.

'Guess it was this big guy.' The Nobody internally mused.

Vermithor slowly made its way towards him and the rest of the group he was with, its golden eyes apparently on Roxas, but it stared at the others, primarily the two Targaryens. It didn't spare much glance at Rhaenyra but its gaze did linger considerably upon the King. Viserys tilted his head up, subconsciously squaring his shoulder and straightening out his posture, putting on a stoic and strong face. And for his right hand, it gripped the knife strapped to his side and ready to act if something were to occur.

That appeared to satisfy the large dragon until it reached where they stood. Its breath bore a faint scent of sulfur. Its maw opened ever so slightly, showing its large teeth. A single snap of its mighty jaws could bite a man in two and most easily swallow one whole.

And now, its attention was directed solely upon the Nobody, staring directly down at him.

Roxas gazed back, unsure as to what to do or how to respond, sensing everyone looking between him and this behemoth of a wyrm.

"Um… hi there…" He quietly said and the dragon chuffed in response. "Er…" Roxas glanced back to the others, seeing them all staring at the scene in bated breath. "What do I do here?"

Viserys was the first to break out of his trance, looking up at the Bronze Fury and then at the blond teen and squinted slightly.

"Who's to say, my boy. Are you perhaps about to claim this dragon?" The King asked, mostly joking to relieve a bit of sudden tension.

"What?" Roxas jolted at that. "Why? I just got here. I can't just do that."

"Why ever not?"

He opened and closed his mouth a few times, making comical gestures to himself and Vermithor.

"I… it's just… I don't wanna claim anything." He argued. "Wouldn't that be like… rude or something? I don't even know if he," Roxas gestures to the large dragon looming over them, "would even accept me."

"He seems quite interested in you." Rhaenyra softly pointed out.

"So?"

The Princess rolled her eyes. "So, you should realize, Roxas, that such a thing is quite shocking for us, the Blood of the Dragon, to see, especially from someone who claims that they are not even from these lands."

"I don't even know how to take care of a dragon."

Vermithor butted in the conversation with a chuffing noise of indignation.

"What?" Roxas defensively asked.

Viserys couldn't help but snort, rather blown away by what he deduced from the Bronze Fury.

"It appears you may have insulted Vermithor with the belief that you have to take care of him." The King translated what he perceived the dragon to say. "He can take care of himself."

"Oh… sorry?" Roxas rubbed the back of his head, looking up at the large dragon.

The apology seemed to satisfy Vermithor as it moved back, its gaze lingering on the boy when it shifted over to the King. It was kept for several moments (which felt like hours) as if judging him. And then turned, moving back into the Dragonpit.

"Seven Hells," Ser Harrold quietly said, placing a hand on his chest to stem his rapidly beating heart, a sentiment shared by Ser Ryam and Lady Alicent.

Of all the things to happen today, seeing dragons behave in such a manner was certainly not something any of them, save for Rhaenyra, were expecting. And even the princess did not anticipate Vermithor, of all dragons, to only solidify her interest in her new friend.

As for the King, his eyes drifted over to Roxas who had watched the Bronze Fury depart before turning to Rhaenyra, asking her if she planned this by any chance. She vehemently denied it, stating that no one even knew Vermithor was here. Last the Princess had heard, the dragon of Jaehaerys the first was back on Dragonstone.

Viserys observed this interaction in silent contemplation, a thousand thoughts in his mind with several being concentrated on. The way Syrax and Vermithor reacted to this boy was far, far friendlier than any interaction he had witnessed, and he had been around and seen practically all the dragons House Targaryen currently has.

'Does he truly not have the Blood of the Dragon as he claims?' The King mentally asked. 'Or perhaps, he has lineage from Valyria he is unaware of.'

Then, the idea of Roxas perhaps being a dragon seed lingered on his mind.

Much like any person out in Westeros (much less the rest of the world), noble or lowborn, it wasn't uncommon for most members from House Targaryen to have coupled outside of marriage; or even beforehand. The possibility of bastard children being conceived was a result. Unless they were given legitimacy by the king, none of them having claim to lands or titles in the end.

He and Daemon were no exceptions as they had gone into the Street of Silk and lain with several women back when they were Rhaenyra's age. But while Viserys stopped once betrothed to his beloved Aemma, Daemon still continues even though he's married to Lady Rhea Royce.

Back to the matter of topic, outside of marriages, children born out of wedlock with the Blood of the Dragon were somewhat labeled as dragon seed to at least show their ties to House Targaryen… or any other family that possibly survived the Doom.

Thinking on it, the king thought of one set of examples of dragon seed originating from his aunt Saera.

Viserys still remembered her. She was rebellious and free loving. Rhaenyra would've loved her if she was still around. Of course, she had issues with her father (his grandfather, Jaehaerys) time and time again. At some point, a scandal occurred where it was brought up where she had lain with… quite the number of men. Saera even had the audacity of possibly wanting to marry them all, which ended up souring as many thought back to Maegor the Cruel's multiple wives. She was casted out with King Jaehaerys declaring she was not his daughter anymore. And as a harsher punishment, her lovers were executed with her being sent to Oldtown to become a member of the Silent Sisters.

However, Saera fled in the dead of night once arriving in Oldtown.

Last he and anyone else had heard of her after that, she lived in Lys as a courtesan. And years later as King Jaehaerys called the Great Council to settle the matter of his successor, several bastard sons of hers arrived to press their claim. And when asking about Saera's present whereabouts, her children stated she lived in Volantis and was ruling "a kingdom of her own".

And then, suddenly, years later, this boy appears with apparently no knowledge of Westeros, or even Essos.

That made him pause momentarily.

If this boy was from Volantis then he certainly would have knowledge of these two continents.

When he thought of this, Viserys disregarded Roxas perhaps being a descendant of Saera.

But he didn't discount the idea of him being a descendant of Valyria. Much was lost in that time, knowledge, dragons, bloodlines. For all the Targaryens knew, there could have been stragglers that survived the Doom and perhaps even lost their classic Valyrian traits over the centuries.

Roxas obviously doesn't bear any Valyrian traits. But that could be overlooked with how Syrax and Vermithor outright reacted with the boy.

So many questions.

Viserys cleared his throat, getting everyone's attention. "Well now, I think that has been enough excitement for today, yes? I believe it's best for us to return."

There were murmurs of agreement from everyone. Rhaenyra bade Syrax goodbye with the dragon being escorted back into the Pit upon the urging of the Dragonkeepers.

As they departed, the two knights, two Targaryens and sole Hightower kept looking at Roxas, their minds replaying what they saw in the Dragonpit. They all had so many questions with the main one being…

Just who is this boy?

-Scene Cut-

Within the gardens of the Red Keep, silence blanketed an assortment of people as they traversed.

It was a change of pace and scenery from the Dragonpit, to be sure. Far more subdued as opposed to the tense and unpredictable environment where the dragons rested.

Currently, Rhaenyra and Alicent were giving Roxas a tour of the gardens as this was a place that they had apparently missed the day before. They figured it was a more pleasant way of relaxing after such an eventful visit to the Dragonpit.

However, there was an awkward air shared between Rhaenyra and Alicent, both girls having far too many questions on their mind for Roxas. They had just seen him interact with dragons in a manner they had never seen before.

Not even Rhaenyra, who is around dragons practically every day, had never seen dragons behave so friendly, almost docile in the way they did with him.

When Rhaenyra brought him to the Red Keep, this certainly wasn't what she had expected. And it made her desire to know Roxas all the more.

The blonde Nobody was fine with the silence as he was more focused on seeing the flora around him. But it was a bit much as he eventually found it uncomfortable on either Alicent or Rhaenyra talking.

Wanting to break the silence, he comments on the garden, asking questions about where some of these flowers came from. He wasn't honestly as interested but he was getting a bit put off by the prolonged silence.

Alicent was quick to jump on this chance, going ahead slightly to gesture to several colorful fauna that were close by. She gestured to a particular group of flowers that resembled birds-of-paradise with how the petals were arranged, not to mention their coloration.

"These were freshly planted the other day. Arrived from the Summer Isles or somewhere over in Essos. I'm not sure, honestly." Alicent said, adjusting the strap of her bag she had brought with them. "But they are quite lovely."

Roxas hummed slightly, taking in the colors and shape of the flower, plucking one for himself.

"What are they?"

The Lady Hightower took a moment to recall the name of these flowers. "I believe they are called Strelitzia."

Strelitzia…

Roxas suddenly felt a strange pressure from the back of his head.

"Strelitzia?" He said to himself, staring intently at the identified flora.

The pressure morphed into an odd, faint ache that made him wince.

Why did these flowers…?

"Roxas?" He was shaken slightly, making him blink and turn to see Rhaenyra staring at him in confusion. "Are you alright?"

He gazed at her, then back at the Strelitzia in his hand, setting it down. "I'm fine. Just a small migraine."

"Would you perhaps want to sit down?" Alicent asked.

He took a moment to think about it before nodding.

"Might be best." He already had enough bad experiences with sudden migraines and aches in the head.

More or less recognizing where they were located, Rhaenyra soon took charge and directed them to a place in mind.

She guided the pair to some nearby architecture, and there resided something that stood out significantly.

Differentiating from the normal ones, Roxas saw this large, stark-white tree that reached high and wide enough to cover up much of the little hill. The coloration was practically bone-like from what he could imagine and the bark was no doubt smooth to the touch. He then took note of the surrounding leaves, being blood-red in color. Picking up a few from the ground, the Keybearer saw they were shaped like a five-pointed star.

Roxas almost jumped in his spot upon seeing a face. Yet he quickly calmed himself when it wasn't the face of a normal person. In fact, it wasn't a person at all as it was the face that was carved into one of the trees. And running down its "closed eyes" were red sap-like tears.

"Never seen a Weirwood tree before?" Rhaenyra asked from behind, coming up to stand next to him.

"This… is a first for me." He admitted.

Alicent nodded. "There are people out there who could go their entire lives without seeing one of these. There aren't that many below the Neck after the Andal invasion thousands of years ago."

Roxas nodded as he gazed back at the "face" before him.

Gazing at it, he felt something was odd about it but couldn't quite place it. There was something about this tree that stood out to him, and it wasn't just from the face. It was so distinct from everything else in the gardens and… there was an air around it.

Ancient, far older than anything here.

And magical.

Unbeknownst to Roxas' thoughts, Rhaenyra gazed back at the tree she and many others of her family had spent time under for years.

She often heard tales of it that this Weirwood tree wasn't originally part of this land where it was somehow moved and replanted here from the North after Aegon's Conquest. That was the more believable idea as it would've been hard to save the tree all those years ago from the Andal Invaders while the land was still disputed between the Stormlands, Riverlands and the Vale.

Walking to the base of the tree, Rhaenyra plopped herself down on her favorite spot, looking at her two friends expectantly. "Well, make yourselves comfortable."

Looking at her, then at Alicent who simply walked over to sit next to the Princess, Roxas shrugged and leaned against the Weirwood, sliding down to the ground. Rhaenyra then leaned over, resting her head on Alicent's lap in a comfortable hum, shooting her best friend an appreciative and mischievous look.

Alicent rolled her eyes in faux-annoyance, poking her friend's temple "rebelliously".

"You just wanted to sit here to rest your head here, didn't you?" She jokingly accused, watching as the Princess shifted her head about on her thigh.

"Is it wrong that I find this to be one of my favorite resting places?" Rhaenyra teased. "You do make for a comfortable head rest, my dear friend."

Alicent flushed slightly at the compliment, chuckling all the same at her friend's comments.

Roxas observed all this with a small smile which fell when his mind wandered to his memories of the times he spent with his friends, real and data. All the times he sat at the Twilight Town station clocktower with Axel, Hayner, Pence and Olette.

One of them was real… the other three were… unfortunate fabrications based on truth.

"Roxas?"

Once again, he was shaken from his thoughts from Rhaenyra and Alicent, both of whom were looking at him.

"Hmmm? Did you say something?"

Rhaenyra stared at him intently.

"Where does your mind always wander off to?"

"Always?" Roxas snorted. "What do you mean, always?"

"Always," She stressed out, making a face at him. "I've only seen your face for a day and yet it always seems to be elsewhere."

"She is right, Roxas." Alicent spoke up. "Do you have something on your mind?"

Rather than answering, he turned away from them, a small frown appearing for them to see, propping his legs up for his arms to rest on his knees.

After a few moments of silence…

"Yeah. A lot, honestly." He answered quietly, voice strained slightly.

The two girls glance at one another, evidently surprised by his response.

Alicent found herself hesitating for a moment, biting her lip until asking, "Would you… like to talk about it?"

Roxas didn't respond at first, leaning his head back to rest against the bark of the Weirwood, looking up at its uniquely colored leaves.

After another moment, he turned away from them.

"Sorry." He softly murmured.

"It's alright," Alicent hastily said, feeling a bit foolish for asking such a question earlier. She reached for her bag resting next to her, opening it to pull out a sizable book she had brought along with her. She clears her throat awkwardly. "Would you like to continue reading where we left off?"

She got a favorable response, seeing him turn with a small smile and nodded at her offer. He moved to now sit on her left while Rhaenyra remained lying on her lap on her right, taking the offered book out of Alicent's hands.

"I never would have pegged you the sort to find history so interesting." Rhaenyra commented as Roxas opened up the book to a page he had marked earlier.

"I was taught by a few people that when coming to a new place, it's best to learn everything you can. Not just of your surroundings, but with the knowledge it brings. And learning about Westeros' history falls into those parameters."

"Parameters?" Rhaenyra parroted in amusement. "That's a fancy word."

"I can be a fancy person." Roxas jokingly retorted.

The Princess playfully scoffed, hearing Alicent giggle at his response before beginning to assist Roxas in his studies. While Rhaenyra was bored with hearing the "history lesson", given she's heard them many times over, Roxas was very attentive and engaging; asking questions whenever possible for understanding and clarification. It made Alicent smile as she always enjoyed speaking of Westerosi history and having the chance to teach to someone willing to learn was something she found herself enjoying.

For a while, the Princess made bored comments and add-ons to the conversation/history lesson between her best friend and new friend, not participating all that much. It was only when Roxas asked Rhaenyra about her family history, her mood was switched. She instantly began chattering at length and with great pride of the history of House Targaryen.

She obviously began with the earliest point of her family history with them originating from the Valyrian Freehold. Speaking of its Doom with how Daenys the Dreamer convinced her father to have their family leave in order to prevent their destruction. And of course in the same process, Daenys' father convinced the Velaryons and Celtigars to join him in sailing westward where they eventually settled on Dragonstone, Driftmark and Crackclaw Point respectively.

'Perhaps I should have father take part in the lessons of our history. He was more passionate and informative about it than me.' She mused internally, knowing her father held a greater wealth of knowledge of their House and history.

Time would eventually pass on by with the impromptu history lesson for the guest to the Red Keep. One fueled with enjoyment between the trio of individuals. All the while, Roxas felt a sense of nostalgia he could not explain.

Spending time with Rhaenyra and Alicent… it made him recall when had spent time with Axel, rather than Hayner, Pence and Olette. And… and…

And now… he felt empty. As though he were missing something.

Or rather, someone.

-Scene Cut-

After leaving the gardens, Roxas made a request which Rhaenyra decided to indulge. Alicent was surprised by his request but followed the pair all the same.

Eventually, he was brought to the training yard of the Red Keep. As expected, it was occupied by many knights, guards and squires all diligently training.

However, the center of attention was in the middle of the training yard by a man wielding a Valyrian sword, besting two combatants at once. Rhaenyra immediately perked up at the sight of the man whilst Alicent's mood shifted into one that was more nervous and reserved.

Roxas, on the other hand, instantly frowned.

Daemon Targaryen stood in the center of the training yard, a cocky, confident grin in place, looking around the area when his eyes landed on his niece and her two companions. But his attention was directed more towards one of Rhaenyra's companions in particular.

"Ah, the talk of the Red Keep." He said aloud, causing many to turn towards what had caught his attention. "The strange boy with the strange hair and the strange clothes."

"Uh, you do remember we met yesterday, right?"

"Did I?" Daemon mockingly said, twirling his blade. "Apologies, I seem to have forgotten. Which I do admit is a surprise. How can one meet such an oddity and forget it so easily?"

Boy, did he know how to annoy Roxas with the least amount of effort.

"Uncle," Rhaenyra admonished somewhat. "Must you speak to my guest and new friend in such a manner?"

"And in what manner would that be, my dear niece?" He innocently asked.

The Dragon Princess held a look that silently said "you know exactly what I'm talking about".

The Rogue Prince 'hmphed', seemingly self-satisfied with himself, directing his attention back to the Nobody.

"So, tell me boy, is there a reason as to why you have decided to grace us with your presence."

Roxas' eyes narrowed, already annoyed by the man's condescending tone.

"I'm here to train." He announced, causing many in the training ground to stare at him, either in surprise, pity, amusement or condescension, clearly unimpressed by his appearance.

"Train, is it?" Daemon mockingly parroted. "I had no idea you had the heart of a warrior. Or the build of one."

There were some laughter directed at him, serving only to incense the Nobody.

"There's a lot that you don't know about me." Roxas defiantly said.

"Do I?" Daemon condescendingly said, now having a sharper edge to his tone, staring down at the teen. He briefly looked over at Rhaenyra, his eyes conveying an unspoken conversation, one which the Princess appeared to refuse to engage in. This only made the rider of Caraxes feel a twinge of irritation.

It seemed his niece got a bit too attached too quickly to a newcomer that could be a threat to their House. He then held a more measure, gauging gaze at the spikey-haired teen, twirling his blade idly before pointing it at him.

"I've been hearing some interesting rumors about you, boy."

"It's Roxas, not boy." He retorted.

Daemon ignored this correction, going over to a stand with practice blades.

"Many rumors. It appears that you've managed to capture not only my niece's attention, but my brothers as well."

Roxas was getting really aggravated by this man's attitude.

"Why do you care?"

There was a flash in the eyes of the Rogue Prince, one difficult for Roxas to discern. He seemed to be actually insulted by this question, but played it off all the same with his usual swagger and arrogance.

"They are my family, boy, tis my duty to care." Daemon retorted with a sneer, resting Darksister on his shoulder.

This gesture had many begin to clear the area between the Prince and the Nobody, a small circle beginning to form. Rhaenyra immediately knew what was about to happen, as did Alicent. There was a moment where the Princess wished to step in and prevent any sort of fight to transpire, yet she hesitated.

Roxas radiated confidence, already realizing what her uncle was doing and she felt a sudden desire to see more of what her new friend was capable of. Her eyes drifted back over to her Uncle and just beyond him, she spotted Ser Harrold and Ser Ryam observing the interaction with their own interest.

The Rogue Prince held up the training sword he had selected. "Tell me, have you ever faced a warrior, boy?"

Roxas glared now, crossing his arms. "More than you could ever know."

Daemon snickered, sending him a challenging glare of his own. "Is that right? Very well then. Someone get him some armor."

"No," Roxas spoke up, preventing anyone from doing anything. "I don't need it."

Daemon paused, staring at the Nobody. "Begging your pardon?"

"You heard me." He challenged.

This drew a bigger smile from Daemon while surprising and concerning looks were made from others in the yard.

Alicent comes up to the young man she started to think of as her new friend. "Roxas, what are you doing?" She asks.

"About to fight Daemon." He plainly said.

Alicent panicked. "Without armor? Are you suicidal?! Prince Daemon is the best warrior in the Seven Kingdoms!"

"Is he now?" Roxas said dismissively. "Alright then, this should be good."

As this went on, the princess approached her father's heir.

"Uncle, please," Rhaenyra softly said, giving him a pleading look.

Daemon stared back, squinting his eyes at her, appearing somewhat accusational.

"Careful, dear niece." He responded in High-Valyrian. "Show such favoritism to this stray and you may not like the attention that comes your way."

Rhaenyra grit her teeth, hating her lack of an answer, looking over at Alicent and Roxas, seeing the latter staring intently at her Uncle while the former kept fretting over the Nobody. She bit her lip, wishing to speak out. Unfortunately, her own curiosity over this duel won out, stepping back as her Uncle was ready.

Once parting from the worried Hightower and ignoring the various looks from the others in the yard, Roxas headed over to a sword rack. Taking a blade from it, Roxas checked its weight and balance with a few swings before putting it back to retrieve another. Once more it happened as he tested it out before settling with it.

As much as he wanted to use his Keyblades, he thought it would be overkill against the arrogant prince. Though he had to settle with a regular sword instead of a blunted one, Daemon was sticking with one of the two Valyrian steel swords belonging to House Targaryen, Darksister.

"Last chance to back out." Daemon spoke out.

"Not a chance." Roxas says back.

Wielding their respective swords, both stood a dozen paces or so apart. While Daemon went with his traditional stance, being rather relaxed in appearance, Roxas went into his single sword fighting form; going into a crouching horse stance with his weapon held off to the side. Everyone whispered and murmured in confusion upon seeing Roxas' unique stance.

The Rogue Prince didn't hold back his laughter. "What in the Seven Hells kind of posture is that supposed to be?

Roxas says nothing, only remaining silent.

After some tense moments, it began.

With an unannounced signal, the Targaryen was the first to move; rushing and lunging forward in order to see where Roxas would maneuver for a defensive action. He was nearly caught off guard by the boy's jump forward, going into a horizontal slash that met his blade halfway.

The Rogue Prince was startled at how his arms trembled slightly upon impact, thrown off by the strength this teen possessed. He recovered and delivered a swift downward strike. Roxas quickly maneuvered around the Targaryen's attack. With the exposed side, the Nobody swung his sword in an upward motion.

A hiss emanated from Daemon upon feeling the swing struck his upper arm as it was close to the shoulder area. This made him stagger a little as he composed himself from feeling the blow despite wearing armor in order to continue on with the fight.

As Daemon moved quickly and tried to come at Roxas from behind, the Nobody surprised him immensely by enacting a very sharp, smooth and precise swerve where he ended up behind Daemon in response in one swift, fluid movement. The audience in attendance all gasped and whispered amongst themselves, completely in disbelief at what they just witnessed.

"Seven Hells!"

"Did you see that?!" Another knight asked.

"How in the Seven Hells did that lad do that?" An older Knight said.

"Is that even possible?" A female servant murmured.

"It looked like he just… slid around. Glided, even."

"Who is this boy?"

Daemon barely had enough time to block Roxas as the Nobody quickly went on the offensive. Roxas made a series of strikes and swings that made Daemon back up, the Nobody relentless in his assault.

"Good heavens," Alicent whispered in disbelief. "He's overpowering Prince Daemon."

Rhaenyra watched in rapt silence, eyes wide, also not believing what she was seeing. And yet there it was.

She'd seen her uncle triumph many over the years, mostly in tourneys against various knights across the kingdoms under Targaryen rule. But here and now, she's seeing someone besting him.

She couldn't believe how refreshing and all so exciting it was for the princess. To think that the boy she had met only 24 hours ago was capable of being such an effective warrior. It only compounded on her growing desire to learn more about her new friend.

Back with the fight, Daemon was constantly moving as he fought against Roxas, stepping forward and to the side whenever on the offensive and defensive. Whatever thrusts, swings and sweeps Daemon delivered, his younger opponent simply held up his sword and tensed his arms in order to block and parry the attacks with no exertion to them. Not to mention averting them by maneuvering around the prince like he was dancing.

Daemon lunged in with his sword, delivering a series of quick and powerful blows at his younger opponent.

Roxas appeared unfazed by the aggressive assault, with his borrowed sword lashing out to clash with each strike his older combatant gave out. And it was obvious from the tense look Daemon showed, there was a lot of force behind each blow given in turn.

It was quite evident that Daemon originally hoped to overwhelm and outmatch Roxas, believing him to be a green boy. However, it was clear now how spectacularly wrong the Rogue Prince was at this very moment.

Roxas' stance shifted, withdrawing his borrowed blade from the sword lock. The guard of his opponent shifted for a mere moment with a slight stumble. It was all he needed to go in with another blow to make the Targaryen prince lose ground.

Amongst the audience in the training yard, several members of the Kingsguard were present, out of commotion and drawn for curiosity sakes or already being there to begin with. They observed this unfold and bore a number of thoughts. Of course two of them basically voiced them.

"Gods be good," Ser Ryam commented quietly. "That boy is playing with the Prince."

"Perhaps Roxas can beat some humility into Prince Daemon." Says Ser Harrold, earning a chuckle from his lord commander of their order.

"It's been a long time coming, I must say."

In Ser Ryam's opinion, Daemon's talent with a sword was astounding; even since he helped oversee his training in his younger years. A prodigy all on his own, something which he and his fellow Kingsguard brothers helped refine with the Master-at-Arms decades ago. Yet the prince's overconfidence and arrogance often spoils it as he got older, something which one could exploit when given the opportunity.

But this time was different. Daemon's arrogance had evaporated mere moments into the duel and since then, the Prince had been fighting with all the training and skill he had acquired over the decades… and it wasn't enough.

In the fight, the Targaryen took a double step back as he was now on the defensive against the surprisingly skilled fighter. Roxas tried to get a good hit on Daemon this time, but he slid away from the Nobody prior to blocking a quick series of strikes with a following parry. Of course he was knocked back further when Roxas leapt into the air and slammed his sword into Daemon's.

There was an audible gasp from the crowd, stunned by this display of athleticism. The blow rattled the Targaryen's arm as he ended up losing ground as a result.

Gritting his teeth from the strike, Daemon was quickly realizing just how well a fighter Roxas truly was. And he wasn't the only one to think of such things.

"Roxas' form is a little unorthodox as there's some openings one could exploit." Ser Harrold noted, observing the boy's movements with his experienced eye. "There is some foundation to it but it seems more self-taught by the likes of it, just more refined."

There was also the factor that it was balanced, yet flexible in nature but Roxas was also very fast with quite powerful blows.

"And he's not letting pride get in the way, like most knights out there." Ser Ryam commented as he kept his observation. "Taking a better look at his style, I believe it's designed to primarily kill with hints of protection."

A frown marred Harrold's face. "My thoughts exactly. I find it strange as he could've delivered such blows that could be crippling or lethal, but… I think he's holding back to hopefully make it a fair fight."

Ryam grimaced. "I dread to think what it may go if he doesn't restrain himself with a serious fight."

That detail unsettled the other Kingsguard members as they watched things continue playing out.

Back in the fight, Roxas deflected blows aimed at both his head and upper torso, but the Nobody was quick to parry the first away to quickly intercept the second after performing a sweeping dodge. He soon retaliated with a few jabbing thrusts that were knocked aside. When Daemon sought to go in with another strike, Roxas backed off with a roll.

Coming back up, Roxas shot forward with his borrowed sword. Daemon was momentarily knocked back, forcing him to move with quickened steps.

As he was assessing things, Daemon realized he was starting to be overwhelmed.

Worse yet, Roxas showed no sign of exertion; practically playing with Daemon, showcasing the vast difference between them. It ignited a fury within Daemon that someone so young wielded such strength and speed.

"He seems quite good. Possibly good enough to be a possible candidate to join our brotherhood."

Ser Harrold looked at his commander with a questioning gaze. One which Ryam could pretty much feel shared by the others in their order.

"I'm not getting younger." Was Ryam's blunt statement. "I'm at that point where I'll take my eternal rest from my duties sometime in the near future. It would be best to start looking for candidates."

"And you think Roxas is a viable option?" Harrold questions his commander. "But he's not a knight, or even a squire at that."

The Lord Commander made a small gesture with his hand. "Obviously. I'm just voicing my thoughts. Indulging them in speaking instead of silence."

There is one thing one should consider in how Daemon is being beaten.

While Daemon is much older, Roxas has more experience in fighting; dwarfing the prince. And if this was a real fight, strategy as well.

Roxas could've kicked up dirt to momentarily obscure Daemon's vision. Grappled him to throw him off his game. Perhaps fought dirty by throwing some hits that may be unsavory.

He would've done all that against Heartless. He's done it before, courtesy of Axel teaching him that. Saved him a few times in the process.

But he was against a human; a prick, but Daemon is still human.

In the end, Roxas decided now was the time to end it. He got in close, parrying Daemon's sword upward and then with a final full 180 horizontal swing, smashed his blade against the Prince's chest. The Targaryen was blown off his feet, having him hurtle in the air before he fell onto his back. Silence permeated the air as they all stared in complete and utter shock at the display of superhuman strength, watching as the teen walked over to the Prince who was writhing slightly on the ground in pain.

The Nobody's borrowed blade grazed the side of Daemon's cheek, practically kissing it. The man froze, opening his eyes to look at the blade on his cheek and then up at its wielder standing over him.

Silence all but blanketed the training yard with what many witnessed.

Rhaenyra couldn't believe what she was seeing. Her Uncle Daemon was someone she viewed as the greatest warrior alive today, having seen his skills with a sword for as far back as she could remember.

Yet here and now, not only was her Uncle beaten, but he was also completely outclassed in every conceivable manner. Roxas utterly trounced him, beating him back with no apparent effort other than all the times he showed off and even then, it didn't seem like he was showing off.

Or maybe he was, she couldn't tell. All she knew was the man hailed as the best swordsman in Westeros was bested by a newcomer that had no name to him.

What would the people say after this?

Looking down at his opponent, Roxas held an expressionless face until he withdrew his practice sword and held out his other hand.

Much as the Prince grated on his nerves, he could tell that Daemon wasn't a slouch and genuinely had skill.

"Good match."

Instead of accepting the offered hand, Daemon smacked it away, climbed back onto his feet and left the yard.

"Well, that's rude." He remarked, not surprised by the man's response.

It was then that Roxas realized that everyone in the training yard had been staring at him in awe and amazement. None more so than Rhaenyra and Alicent, glancing over at them.

He suddenly felt a bit self-conscious, some heat crawling up his neck, coughing into his hand and smiled awkwardly.

"Guess I uh, overdid it, huh?" He rhetorically asked with a strained chuckle.

-Scene Cut-

Mysaria of Lys could tell Daemon was angry.

For the many years she's lived in Kings Landing, she more or less knows when the Targaryen prince is not happy.

It always resulted with him being aggressive as he fucked her. While it was enjoyable, it did have its limits. And it appeared tonight was one of those nights.

Instead of finishing inside her as he usually did, the Prince abruptly stopped, stepping away from her in a frustrated snarl and turned away.

Mysaria released a small sigh, settling herself down on her bed, getting herself comfortable to soothe her aching legs. She grabbed a nearby pitcher of wine and a cup, pouring herself a drink all while watching Daemon who was grumbling to himself repeatedly.

"Will you tell me what troubles you, My Prince?" She lazily asked, looking over at the man who was now pacing about in her chambers like a caged animal. "I could bring in another. Perhaps a maiden. I have several."

Daemon scoffed. "I don't need another one of your whores."

Seeing this was the case, she realized the present case of Daemon's woes. "Is Otto being a thorn to you once again?"

Otto Hightower has been the source of Daemon's problems for many years. She knew that every time Daemon tried to do something good for his brother, Otto ended up twisting things around to make things worse.

For instance, Mysaria knew Daemon kept changing positions in the Small Council a few times now.

As Master of Law, he did things well before the Hand stated he was a tyrant. Once becoming Master of Coin, he did well for a time until Otto proclaimed he was wasting money as a spendthrift that would beggar the realm. In the end, Daemon was now Commander of the City Watch where he is whipping the men into shape to be the proper defenders of the capital.

Mysaria could only guess when Otto will come in and get Daemon to lose that position as well.

The brothel owner was awaiting her answer to be confirmed when the Prince grabbed a nearby empty cup and threw it out the window.

"Oh, how I wish it was that gray-sunken cunt," He spat out. "He I can easily target my frustration towards. No. It's someone else. A foolish young brat who thinks himself important enough to walk about the Red Keep as if he now owns it. I don't know what my niece was thinking when she brought that bastard in but I will not have him sully the name and honor of my House."

Mysaria raised a brow, taking a small sip, watching as the prince continued to rage. He snarled and spat out "boy", "brat", and "bastard" several times until a name came out, one that had caught reached her ears hours ago.

"Roxas?" She repeated, making Daemon pause in his tantrum. "The blond boy in the Princesses company?"

Daemon scoffed. Of course she would know of him. She likely had many agents under her employ across the capital, all of which fed her information on the goings on of King's Landing. He figured she might even have one or two by the Dragonpit or even in the Red Keep.

"My dearest niece has found a new plaything for herself that has already shown what kind of danger he is for my House." Muttered the prince. "I would've been fine on Otto's daughter, but now this boy is pushing it."

The brothel proprietor knew Daemon tolerated Rhaenyra's only friend. They grew up together and saw each other as sisters. For the princess, she has been an only child for years. For the Hand's daughter, her only sibling still resides in Oldtown serving under her uncle Lord Hobert and hardly sees him. As a result, the two girls formed quite a bond, one which Daemon unfortunately knew Otto would use and exploit for whatever machinations he has for the future.

But now, there was someone else, someone who wasn't allied or associated with anyone. In a literal day, a young boy just came in, from seemingly nowhere and somehow captured his niece's undivided attention and from what he's heard, even his brother now holds a great amount of interest in him.

Did they not realize the threat this boy posed? He was an unknown variable and Rhaenyra threw open the doors to the Red Keep for him.

Mysaria swirled her wine about in her cup, watching the Prince internally war with himself on whether to storm out and cause a scene or do some other reckless action. She was surprised to see him in such a state. The Hand was always one that annoyed the Prince but it appeared that this boy outright pissed him off.

"And what has this boy done that vexes you so?" The White Worm calmly asked.

"..." She heard him mutter something under his breath.

The brothel proprietor tilted her head. "Apologies, I couldn't quite get that."

"...at me." He groused out.

"Excuse me?"

The Rogue Prince exhaled. "He beat me."

Mysaria blinked in confusion. "I'm sorry-"

"You heard me." He interjected and she soon realized what he meant.

"...I did. But… someone beat you?"

Daemon moved about restlessly, going over to the window, grasping at the frame tightly.

"Worse than that… he bested me in ways I never thought possible." Daemon's voice was low and dangerous. "The way he moved, how he fought, his attacks, his stance, everything. I had never seen anything like it. I didn't stand a chance. He utterly decimated me. He didn't even wear armor. Had he used a proper sword, I would have died, no question."

That was highly surprising to hear coming from the Rogue Prince of all people.

"What do you think of him now?"

"I fear what may happen if Otto gets his grubby claws into him."

Before Mysaria could voice something at all to calm his nerves, much less distract him, something occurred in her brothel. The sounds outside of the one room suddenly became louder.

"They sound awfully enthusiastic tonight." The proprietor joked.

And yet those cries of pleasure soon shifted to cries of terror.

Daemon was immediately tense, instinctively grabbing his sword. Mysaria stiffened as she backed away when the prince stormed towards the door, harshly opened it and stepped out to see…

"These things again?"

The Proprietor let out a startled gasp, watching as Prince Daemon, even without his armor, engaged with enemies that were very much not human. At the door were dark creatures with black bodies and yellow eyes who were attacking people in the brothel indiscriminately.

Mysaria heard about these creatures. It was all the people of this city could talk about since last night. The living shadows with their unique assortment of creature allies.

She thought it was merely a murmur's tale, but now she was seeing these first hand as Daemon swung Darksister and slew them with apparent ease. And when she dared to peek out of the room, she saw some men who dared bring weapons into her establishment have utter difficulty in killing the creatures. And instead of being slain in a traditional manner, people left and right started fading into wisps of black vapors as glowing hearts pried out of their chests and backs.

Mysaria gasped, clutching the blankets of her bed to her chest, eyes wide in absolute terror as the creatures of darkness literally came from the floor. She was surrounded now and Daemon had left the room earlier to fight these monstrosities, leaving her defenseless.

She needed to flee, but to where? She was trapped and-

"Nononononono!"

Mysaria scrambles back, letting out a terrified scream as the shadowy monsters all move towards her with several having jumped into the air, claws bared with the intent to claim her life.

*CRASH*

A dark figure burst through the window and with a flash of steel, the dark creatures were slain in seconds. Mysaria had covered herself with her hands, awaiting her fate when she realized she had not been attacked. Nervously, she removed her hands to see that the creatures in her room were no more and that they had been replaced by someone else.

From the light coming from her candles and from the broken window, Mysaria saw a hooded individual wielding a pair of unusual swords shaped like keys of all things. He looked around, seemingly searching for more of those creatures. When he found none, he quickly turned to the brothel owner.

"Are you alright?" He quietly asked and Mysaria balked upon hearing his voice.

'He sounds so young…' She thought.

"Miss? Are you alright?" He asked again, making her jolt.

Regaining her bearings, she gave a hesitant nod.

From whatever candlelight present in her room, it barely revealed the features underneath the hood. All she could make out were the blue eyes that were soft and calming for her as he looked at her with worry and concern.

"Stay here and don't leave." He ordered, clenching his strangely shaped swords tightly, moving to the exit. "Close the door behind me."

Mysaria nodded again as she went to close the door just as the hooded stranger ran out, engaging against these ghastly creatures.

The last thing she saw before closing the door and baring it was her savior performing a superhuman display of agility and saving the life of Daemon Targaryen.

Notes:

Alright, we got the ball rolling here, hopefully we get more readers, reviews and such.

Few quick things we didn't touch on last time.

As per the norm with our stories, this is an AU, so expect age change, timeline changes, some character changes here and there, that sort of thing when dealing with our works.

Jebest4781: This chapter was more or less fun to write. Got more done as a result. Though honestly gonna be a challenge to fill in what will come next before finally hitting the bigger events of the show/book.

FMW: That, plus how we're gonna say this here and now, we're not doing those huge ass time jumps in the show and books. That's too much a hassle, plus, it just wouldn't really work with what we have in mind.

Jeb: After all, from episode 1 and 2, it was six months. 2 and 3 was a few years. Weeks and perhaps months go on between 3 and 4. And even though 4 to 5 is about a week or so, it's a few decades between 5 and 6. So there's no way we're gonna be doing such a thing.

FMW: Like we said, this is meant to be a shorter story of ours, nothing too crazy long. We more or less know exactly what's gonna be happening, just the main changes are this not being time jump crazy. Likely, we'll be adapting scenes and events from the show to a very heavily altered degree to fit in line with what we'll be doing here. Other than the whole House of the Dragon stuff, there is of course the Kingdom Hearts side of things that we'll be touching on as well, since that's gonna be filling out the rest of this story.

So other than that, thanks for reading, please leave your reviews and we'll see you guys again soon enough.
