Chapter 5: Chapter 4 - Magic System and Its Walls.
Chapter Text
[Arthur Leywin POV]
I was just now being interrogated by the Elder Elf about the fact that my body seems to be in danger, even if I didn't notice it. But now the talk had evolved to something I wouldn't expected
I just stared at them, dumbfounded. What was this old bat and my brother saying?
"What? You can't be serious, right?" I managed to blurt out. "Being your disciple? No… WE being your disciples?"
Virion just tilted his head and my brother looked confused at me, they answered in unison. "Why not?"
"First of all, I'm a.. HUMAN!! Is it even allowed to have humans in this kingdom?" I looked to Virion asking this, and after this I looked at Luz "Second, are you really thinking about accepting this? I mean, what about our family?"
"Well, living around here won't be a problem if you're here on my orders." Virion said with his hand stroking his own beard.
"As for our family, after the elder asked me to be his disciple, I also complained about it. But he said he knows a person who can make us communicate with our parents, without leaving this Kingdom." Luz spoke, with Virion nodding in agreement.
"That's right, moreover, I saw that the mana cores of both are going through difficulties, and I'm sorry to inform you, but if they continue like this, it would be as if the mana in your bodies imploded and caused several possible consequences, all bad." Virion continued.
Stopping caressing his own beard, he looked at me again. "So? What do you think? Anyway, your brother already accepted my proposal."
I stared at the two of them for a few seconds, while I saw Tessia still there, like a silly elf being patted by my brother. But soon I got an answer in mind. "Okay, my real problem with our parents was knowing how they are doing and showing that we are alive and well. If there is a way to communicate with them, it is already a good thing..."
"Great! So you'll need to prepare to wake up in the morning, around 6 am you should already be at the castle entrance!" He said already walking away, but I stopped him.
"Wait! I still don't understand. Why do you want us to be your disciples? And that part of our cores are in trouble... What does one have to do with the other?"
"I want you to be my disciples because I see your potential. Kid, an uncountable number of people have asked me to take them in as their disciple, from rich to poor, from young to old. But do you know how many I've taken in so far? NONE! These new generation brats bore me. Just because some of the wealthy noble brat's parents thought their kid was special, they thought they were qualified to ask me to be their mentor."
I just furrowed my brows, not knowing where Tessia's grandpa was going with this.
"You... You two... are different. I know you have exceptional talent in mana manipulation and only God knows how but you possess better techniques than even I, but that isn't the reason why I decided on teaching you two, but it has to do with the problem in your mana cores... Brat... I need to ask you. How are you a beast tamer?" When he spoke that last part, the facial expression was transformed, turning into something serious with an almost deadly look.
"Beast tamer? What are you talking about?" I was really confused.
My gaze went to Luz, to see if he could help me understand that, but he wasn't even paying attention to our conversation anymore. He was talking to a very sleepy Tessia and to a maid. Apparently the maid went to take Tessia to her bedroom. Leaving just me, my brother, and Elder Virion alone.
"Okay, let's go back inside and talk." He said, leading us to a living room with couches and a roaring fireplace.
Sitting down on a couch, he continued. "Let's start from the beginning. I assume you know that mana beasts possess mana cores, just like humans, elves and dwarves right?" We nodded at him.
"Right. Just like mana beasts, humans, elves and dwarves possess qualities in their mana cores that are distinct to their own race." He picked up a piece of paper and began drawing a chart:
[Water Wind Fire Earth]
[Ice Sound Lighting Gravity]
[Plant Illusion Magma Metal]
"These are the four basic elements and their higher forms. Each race has a limiter that dictates what it can and cannot learn. A human can use the 4 elements, fire, water, earth and wind. Being able to also learn Lightning, Ice, Gravity and Sound, they respectively being deviant forms from the elements I mentioned, depending on the affinity level."
"Unlike you, we elves can only have 3 elements, earth, water and wind, but with a great affinity. From the wind we can still learn sound and a higher form called Illusion, but we don't have access to Gravity or Ice, instead, due to our connection with nature and depending on the elf's purity, we can have the ability to control plants."
"And finally the dwarves, they can only manipulate Fire and Earth, like the elves, they have a high affinity for their own elements. They don't have access to the deviant ways that humans have, instead they have access to Metal, with use of Earth, and access to Magma, with use of Earth and Fire together. But sometimes we can see Dwarfs with Gravity… but this is more rare than seeing one with a basic deviant form."
Virion had finally stopped to talk to take a breath, so my brother took the opportunity and asked. "Well...this teaching about what makes the three races different was nice and all...but what would that have to do with Art being a tamer beast?"
"First, you also are a beast tamer... And second... I'm getting to that brat!" he barked at the final, with Luz having a strange look in his eyes as he heard that he was also a beast tamer…?
"Mana beasts are quite different from the three humanoid races, because each species has its own characteristic... but to sum up, we can classify them in the same way that mages or adventurers are classified: E, D, C, B, A, AA, S, SS. In addition they have specializations in the 4 elements and in the various deviant forms that exist, if a class B mana beast with wind ability has its core ripped out, a human or elf who specializes in wind can absorb this core and use it to speed up their mana cultivation." Virion then stood up to grab a glass of water and drink it, apparently talking so much left his mouth dry, but after a long swig, he spoke again.
"However! When the mana beast is at rank A or higher, there is a chance that it will pass its ability to someone else, we call it Beast Will. I called you two beast tamers earlier, because you have a Mana Beast's will in your mana cores and by my estimation, not just any will, but an S class or even SS. I'm only able to sense this because I'm a beast tamer as well, although the beast's will that I tamed was an AA class beast, the shadow panther."
"Wait, so that's how he was able to be so unusually fast...?" I thought with a look of revelation on my face, Elder Virion just chuckled.
"Yes brat, I was able to bully you that badly by utilizing my Shadow Panther's will. But I only used around 50% of my speed with you... With that other brat, I needed to use 100%! SERIOUSLY, how!?!" He looked at Luz with that question, and my brother just laughed and gave him a light wink.
Everything was beginning to make sense... the strange faint markings that appeared on my mana core after Sylvia gouged through it and how, on that last message, she said my future progress would depend on understanding her power.
"I can understand now well, but what about the part of our mana cores having problems? I mean... If we could absorb these beasts' wills, it's not like our body can't take all their power and we're going to die, right?" Luz said this with a sarcastic tone, but Virion just lowered his head seriously. Our eyes opened in complete shock.
Are we really going to die without the necessary training? I mean, I had a reason, I got Sylvia's will, but what beast's will Luz have? We've always been together since he entered this world, the only way for him to have it would be if the biological parents or someone delivered a beast will to his body before it was 5 years old.
"Okay. I understand, I can't refuse to be your disciple. But I wish we could at least talk to our family first..." I said looking down, taking a deep breath and still swallowing all that information.
"Relax brat, did you forget about what I said we were going to do tomorrow morning? Go to sleep now it's better" Virion was saying, leading us to our rooms.
I open my bedroom's door before wishing them goodnight "Goodnight Luz. Goodnight... Grandpa." They chuckled, waving at me, as I plopped into my bed, too tired to even get under the covers.
[Luz Leywin POV]
I was waking up in my bed, stretching a lot, and then standing up. I went directly to the bathroom to take a shower and then put on the elven clothes they had borrowed to me. They had a soft water green color, with details in gold, red and silver. I also saw that there was a kind of white beret with a green moss line, when I picked it up I saw a letter underneath it.
'Thanks a lot for yesterday's information, we tested to see the closest location and indeed there was a slave trader's area. So far we haven't attacked it, but we'll let you know when we've found and rescued in 75% of locations within the Kingdom of Elenoir.'
There was no signature on the letter, so assume it was from Virion, as the King wouldn't be enjoying my presence, by the conversation from before.
After reading that, I put on my new accessory, looked at myself in the mirror and smirked. "Haha, no matter the situation, I have style."
I was about to open the door, but then thoughts of yesterday's conversation came back to me. I was a beast tamer too, it was S or SS level, and it looked like it was going to destroy my body if I didn't train hard enough.. For all these hints, I could be sure.
"My inherited role, the Corruption, is interpreted as a beast's will in this world." I said this in a whisper to myself, still kind of confused as how the things were going, however, I decided to not think so much of this.
I decided first to purify my mana core, or at least try, because after 10 minutes I stopped, remembering that I needed to be at the castle's entrance at 6 am.
Leaving my room and walking down the halls towards the entrance, I could see Tessia entering my brother's room and soon after I heard his screams. Apparently this princess was now Arthur's new alarm clock.
As I made my way, a butler opened the front door for me, I gave him a little bow and spotted a small carriage with Old Man Virion. I went there sitting on his side, as I saw The King and Queen wanting to talk to him. So he gave me a little wave and went out to talk, I could hear what they were saying.
Apparently they were complaining about the fact that humans were in the kingdom and this was against traditions, even if they were grateful for us saving the princess, while Virion defended me and Art with arguments that showed how shallow that discussion was.
And speaking of her, Tessia left the castle and went to the carriage, sitting opposite me. She also heard her parents complaining, which made her look so angry that I even thought it was cute.
"BAH! Screw traditions! I've taken a liking to these brats and so has Tessia, haven't you, child?" Virion snorted.
"G-Grandpa! I-It's not like that! They're just..." Tess' voice trailed off at the end, face glowing. He was really smart, taking advantage of the fact that we are her first friends for that, what an old rogue.
"Hahaha! Anyways! They're going to be under my direct guidance from now on so make sure to let everyone know that they are not to be trifled with!"
"F-Father..." King Alduin tried to say something, but by the looks of it, he clearly didn't have a good enough excuse.
"ENOUGH! This is not up for discussion! Oh brat! You're here! Come! We should hurry!" Virion said looking at the entrance to the castle, that's just how I noticed my brother leaving there.
Art walked to the carriage, getting into it. He sat next to Tessia while Virion returned and sat next to me.
A little into the journey. Tessia was sleeping on the bench, tired from waking up early, while the rest of us stood looking out at the landscape, until I could hear Virion's voice.
"Take good care of her, guys. She grew up in a very lonely environment" he quietly mutters, a look of compassion filled his eyes as he looked at his sleeping granddaughter.
"What do you mean?" Art asked.
"Growing up as the only princess of an entire kingdom is very stressful, too much for a child to handle. Growing up with no close friend, it was hard on her. Everytime that someone tried to befriend her, was only using her for their personal gains. This has made Tessia into someone cold and distant to those around her. Imagine how surprised we all were when we saw you three holding hands." He continues.
"Yeah, I could feel this when we heard her talk to the guards" I said and Art nodded.
"Guys... Tessia has shown more expression, more smiles and laughs, now than she ever had growing up. Around you, she finally seems more like a child. For that, I thank you." Virion patted my shoulder and smiled at Arthur.
The carriage came to a gentle halt before the driver opened our carriage door to inform us of our arrival.
"Hey Tess, we're here." Arthur whispered, gently patting her head.
I could see her hugging him while still a little sleepy. Me and Virion smiled at them, I really find them so cute, reminding me of how I acted in a delicate and affectionate way with the people I loved during my many lives. I was 95% sure they would date at some point.
With Tessia now at least able to walk, we got out of the carriage and arrived at what looked like a dainty hut.
"HEY, YOU OLD WITCH! Come out!" Grandpa Virion suddenly yelled while knocking on the door.
The door flew open to reveal a hunched elderly lady with grey hair that seemed like it was struck by lightning or was near a Tesla coil 24/7, her wrinkled eyes gave me an intense sense of some witches that I knew of. Dressed in a simple brown robe, she peered down at me and Art with a studying eye.
"Took you long enough to get here!" She scowled.
"Hahaha! Arthur! Luz! Let me introduce you to Rinia Darcassan. She's a very special deviant amongst us elves." Grandpa Virion announces.
"It's good seeing you again, Virion. Charming as always, little Tessia" she smiled, patting Tess' head.
Looking at us, she stuck out her hand. "We finally meet young Ley-Leywins... I'm Rinia. A Diviner." she looked a little... surprise, but why?
"It's really good to know you too, Rini- Wait a minute how did she know our Family's name?" I looked at Virion.
"She is a Diviner, brat!" When Virion said this everybody started to laugh at me. I accept that this was my intention, but I now feel like a fool.
After all those laughs, we went inside the cabin. We sat at a round table with a large pitcher of water in the middle. She started talking about things like the real reason she was there and that she could also feel that we had incredibly powerful beasts' wills, even surpassing the SS class.
I mean, Arthur was given a dragon, while I have an old god's soul. Of course they would be above normal.
"Enough about that, I need you two to close your eyes and focus on your parents appearance and their mana signature. I'll take care of ther rest." Rinia said looking at us
We closed our eyes and imagined the last scene we had of them both together: Rey badly wounded and Alice healing him.
"Okay, you can open your eyes now." We looked at her to see the color of her eyes swirling. The water was floating out of the jar and was swirling around, forming a spiraling disk. Suddenly, I see my foster parents in the water.
They are together, sitting around a dining table. It didn't seem to be the house in Ashber. Alice's face was a bit paler and was currently saying something to Reynolds, who was wearing some kind of uniform and even a good beard.
It was so good to see they alive and fine, I saw Art, crying for happiness, and after this I could fell some tears in my face too, not for the fact they were alive, just my empathy attacking me.
"T-Thank you Elder Rinia. Thank you truly for showing us this." Art was really trying to not cry a lot while saying this to her. And I could feel how uncomfortable she was about his sincerity.
Rinia zoomed out the image in the water, so we could see that they are actually at Xyrus, they are living there. This really makes things simpler to us, since the portal that connects the Kingdom of Eleanor to the Kingdom of Sapin was in Xyrus.
"So Art, Luz. You should start saying to them that you're alive!" Virion said while clapping his hands together.
"Okay, for us to do that first you have to inject your mana into the water. After my signal, you can speak normally as if you were with them, that they could only hear your voices. But the message will be sent to their heads, so you have to talk in a way that they don't think they're going crazy. You have 2 minutes to speak, ready?" Rinia said in a somewhat articulate way, putting her hands close to us with 2 fingers up in one of them.
We nodded as we looked at her, and took a deep breath, I would let Arthur speak first and then continue. We put our mana in the water, it was know with some colors, all the 4 elemental mana colors.
"And.. go!" Rinia told us to get started, and then my brother spoke.
"Hi Mom, hi Dad. It's me, your son Arthur. You're probably really surprised that you're hearing my voice inside your head. Well there's a reason for that. Before that though, I want you to know that I and Luz are alive and safe. Again We're alive and well Mom, Dad. We managed to survive the fall off the cliff and We're currently living in the Kingdom of Elenoir with elves. Please don't tell anyone else this. We don't have much time so we'll say the things most crucial. A friend of us is a deviant like you mom, except she's a diviner so we were able to see how you guys are doing just now as well. She is also the one that is allowing you guys to be able to hear our voice."
After this I started to spoke as well.
"We wanted to go back to you all as soon as possible, but there seems to be some problems. Firstly, after we fell from the cliff, our bodies gained some type of illness, but don't worry, we found an elder elf that can help us, he is pretty famous around here, so we will be fine while in his care. The second is, we are going to use a portal in this kingdom to come back, so you'll have a possible idea of when we will come back, if you hear about the two kingdoms entering in contact. Please, don't tell anyone where we are right now, better yet, just keep it as if we were still dead to make things simpler. It may take years for us to be able to go back, but be sure that WE WILL come back."
"We love you so much and we miss you. Stay safe and protect each other as well. Your sons, Art and Luz." We finished our message in unison.
I could see Arthur having problems to keep his eyes open from the tears that continuously poured down. I simply hugged him and we felt Virion patting our heads, while Tessia was patting Arthur's shoulders due to him being the most emotional in that time between us two. The glow faded around both of us and Elder Rinia collapsed back into her chair, sweating and pale.
We looked at her and tried to help her to stand at least, which made her pat our heads just like how Virion did.
"Elder Rinia, I don't know how to thank you for this." Art spoke to her.
"Train well and continue to cherish those close to you, children. That's how you'll thank me. Also! Don't forget to drop in once in a while. This grandma here gets lonely kekeke~!" She answered with a weak smile.
"Welp. We are gonna to give our best. And maybe even go beyond your expectations." I said to her smiling as well.
"Getting beyond MY expectations? Kid, you truly want to do something impossible, if you do it, I might have my first surprised face for a while." She answered, trying to keep the mood a little up.
"Let's see this! I have hope that you two are gonna have a 'Good' time with me." Virion said this and we all laughed.
We thanked Elder Rinia again and went back to the castle. The time used to travel between the castle and Rinia's place was so great, that when we arrived, it was already pretty late, to the point that it wasn't even worth starting our training right away.
Before we went to bed, we had dinner with the King and Queen present. Apparently they wanted to apologize for what they said about us before our 'little' trip. Arthur and I accept their apology, as it really was a massive change in customs that took place overnight.
Virion told us that the training would take place a little after breakfast, so our goal was to sleep peacefully. This was easy for Art, since now our parents know that we are alive and well. While I was able to sleep like a rock, after many lives perfecting the more comfortable position to sleep, one that for other eyes, could think I'm crazy.
But soon, I woke up to a loud scream from my brother. I stood up and opened the door, still in my pajamas and using my new elf beret, thinking this was just Tessia waking him up again. But I noticed Virion running towards Arthur's room, and the sun wasn't showing yet.
Getting a look of shock I ran to see what was happening. And when I got there I saw Virion helping Arthur with his mana core. Apparently the imbalance by having Sylvia's wills was hitting my brother's body, while I still hadn't received any negative effects from "mine", after all I had great control over it, and if something like that happened, it would be more about my current body rejecting something.
"It's a bit early, but let's start training now." I could hear Virion saying this to Art as he walked out of his room. When he saw me, he asked us to go to the courtyard, so I followed him, with my brother right behind me.
Sitting cross-legged, the Elder took a long look at us before explaining. "Until now, you've been purifying your mana core and manipulating your mana using mana channels. While, for normal mages, this method is sufficient, for beast tamers, we can't rely on this approach. Instead, we do something called assimilation." We sat down facing him. I was trying to think what type of 'assimilation' this was, but we just looked at him as we had no idea what he was talking about.
Looking at our faces, he started to explain "Well, the most essential for this is integrating the mana from your core directly into your body's bones and muscles, hence the method, assimilation. Unfortunately, throughout the period of assimilating, your mana core won't develop at all, but that isn't the point of this. Once the mana from your new core is absorbed throughout your body, you'll be able to start utilizing whatever power your beasts' wills had."
"So it's a way for our bodies to get so used to our mana core... and with that they won't start rejecting each other?" I said that and Virion nodded in agreement.
Art did a facepalm, as if it was such an obvious thing to think about, but we didn't do it because we focused on our knowledge of magic, not knowledge of our bodies. I mean, my body was accepting mana pretty easily since day 1, so I at least had that excuse.
"Okay, with that said, there isn't much I can help you with for the first part of your training except making sure your mana are distributed evenly throughout your bodies and relieving you when your body spasms like earlier." After Virion said it while looking at art, we started our training.
Training continued on with us meditating, dispersing the mana out of our core and into our bodies without using our mana channels. Art had gotten the hang of it after a few days. While I was just following some common sense of other worlds where magic wasn't in just a single organ. I didn't complete the assimilation but managed to do this process with a little help of corruption, assimilating enough that Virion didn't worry about my mana core anymore, with that he focused more on Arthur.
My brother was having trouble assimilating, with his days being an intense routine of waking up, eating, assimilating throughout and sleeping. Not being able to leave the castle at any time, for his still being unstable.
I decided that I would stop assimilating while Art was not well, thus enjoying the days with Tessia, or rather say, gather information. And I was able to do it, by interacting with some of the inhabitants, with Tess always on my side. There were those who kept looking from afar, and there were those who wanted to shake hands when they passed near me.
I didn't know why, but I soon found out by talking to King Alduin.
It seems that the soldiers found several elven slaves within the locations informed on the map that I stole from the slave traders. The king just hadn't spoken before, because he was waiting to finish all them to officially expose my assistance in all this rescue. I was happy about it.
At that time 327 kidnapped elves were saved, this was on the time frame of two weeks, and there was already a prediction that there were around 2000 to 5000 kidnapped elves, according to reports and population counts.
About a week after I found out about what my deed was doing for the elven community, I happened to see Virion with two guards in one of the castle's outer gardens. Both looked like elves with a very mature female body, one had white hair and very light eyes, the other seemed to have dark hair and brown eyes.
Finding it strange that they seemed to have different uniforms from the other guards, I slowly approached, waving and trying to get my Mentor's attention.
"Yo, Virion. Some news these days? Is my brother doing well in his assimilation?" I asked, with the two elves now also looking at me, while one smiled waving at me, the other seemed to give me a wink, which caught me off guard making my cheek be a little warm.
Master Virion soon turned to me. "Oh, brat! Well... your brother is doing fine, except for some still uncontrollable pain, for your other question nothing much, just talking to some royal guards. Ladies, this is Luz Leywin, one of my disciples."
"Oh! Disciple? I see… My name is Alea Triscan. It's an honor to meet someone who managed to get the attention of our former king." The light-haired elf said.
"Uuuh... A disciple? Interesting. Cutie, my name is Aya Grephin. Nice to meet you, Luley." The black-haired elf spoke in a rather attractive tone, winking at me again.
"L-Luley?!" It made my cheeks rosy, making even Virion laugh, while Alea seemed to slap the back of Aya's head for saying something like that. But soon I managed to answer, bowing. "It's an honor to meet you too."
"Your presence really cheers people up, brat. But did you just come to ask simple things like that?" Virion looked at me curiously, as I always had second motives for him.
"Actually, I was supposed to show a trick, I found I could do it when a thin branch was about to fall on Tess' head while we were walking around town." I said, turning my back to them and making wind mana focus in front of me, I moved my arm in order to spread the mana in the shape of a blade and so I launched a kind of blade razor, which hit the nearest wall, cutting the vines that were nearby.
"Wow, so you're a wind conjurer? Not bad, brat." He clapped his hands for me, and the two elves also did it. Even though that was good, I felt like they were applauding a child for finding out what 2+2 was. But that would change when I showed one more thing...
"Yes, but when I went to pick up one of the parts of the branch that fell off, I did this." I picked up one of the cut vines and approached them, with the piece of vine in my hand, it started to catch fire, burning it.
The eyes of the three showed the level of surprise they had, with my mentor saying. "Not just a Mana Conjurer, but a Fire Augmenter?!? Wait, you're a double elemental that can act like two completely opposite types of mages!!!"
"Exactly. And with that said, I wanted you to teach me about wind magic at least, after my brother had assimilated enough to not feel pain."
"Well, maybe, but it would take me a while, as he doesn't show that much improvement." Virion sighed at that.
After some seconds, the elf Aya seemed to do a little jump. "Hey, could I help your disciple with some basic wind magic tricks?"
"Hmm... Maybe, but brat. Don't forget who here is your real mentor!" He said with a laugh at the end, tapping my shoulder lightly and leaving.
"Uh... Okay...?" I was a little confused how things took this turn, when I looked back at the girls, Aya was already very close, studying me with her eyes, while Alea seemed to create a stool made of thick roots, to sit on and see what that would give.
"So come on, Luley, I'm a Wind Conjurer, as well as being a personal guard of the royal family with great power, which makes me perfect for training the disciple of our former elven king." Aya said enthusiastically, never letting the seductive tone of her voice out. But soon Alea seemed to laugh a lot.
Why was she laughing? Simple, my face was deadpan, making the things Aya said seem unimpressive to me.
"Okay, are you going to teach me what kind of basi-" My speech was interrupted as she put a finger in front of my mouth.
"I think a light spar would be good for me to know which basics would be redundant to teach you, after all, you looked like a prodigy showing that wind blade from before."
"I knew it was going to look like this... Relax boy. I'll protect you if she overdoes it." Alea said as she leaned her head on a plant structure she created.
[Alea Triscan POV]
I still couldn't believe what I was seeing. Would Aya, a fully grown elf, really want to face a human boy who has just discovered his elements? Although, the way his mentor is... maybe this kid, Luz, is used to this… I mean, the act of people attacking him out of nowhere.
I looked as they gave a space of 10 meters between themselves, and Aya has already started as the first move to use Illusion magic, creating a fog. Did she really want to test him or tease the child more?
"Hunf, how boring." I could hear the boy say this, as he seemed to clear the fog with a strong gust of wind that went from top to bottom.
I wasn't shocked at first, as I thought this fog was weak because it was just a provocation from Aya, but I soon noticed her amazed look…
Wait, was there supposed to be no way for him to get out of that?
Aya seemed to start throwing a few simple gusts of wind at the boy, who now... seemed to be floating in the grass... dodging the attacks....
"HOW IS HE FLOATING IN THE GRASS?" I spoke aloud in shock, watching the boy wonder, while Aya soon noticed that detail as well.
"Boy, how are you blowing gusts of wind through your feet? And in that consistency?!" Aya asked the boy.
"I thought you wanted to see what I can do, My Lady~" He answered Aya in the most seductive voice a little boy could say.
My shock at all that soon faded for me to laugh, it looked like he was getting back at her for the earlier teasing. And at least, now I had an explanation for the boy's movements, although it didn't surprise me, yet he's in the solid red stage, how long can he keep that up?
Aya, with her pride hurt to see a human able to use such techniques on an element that was barely used by himself, lunged at him, releasing a great fog again in the garden. But not only that, before the mist reached me, I could see her casting a sound spell.
For a few seconds blinded by the fog and hearing nothing, I used my plant magic to locate and know what they were doing there. It wasn't that surprising, but I could only locate Aya. The kid must still be using that weird technique of wind coming out of his feet, and that thought of mine had been shown to come true, because I noticed a strange place where the grass was more affected by wind, but it wasn't a simple point, it was a circle of 2 meters in radius.
It would have been 5 minutes already, watching the battle using my magic skill was already getting tiring, so I decided to get up and go towards them. My magic showed that they were still for the moment, or at least it was Aya who was, as the boy continued to use that technique...
Seriously, how could a solid red stage human use that amount of mana? Or was he a genius who figured out how to use the wind efficiently?
"Urgh, kid... for a human you're doing great... But for your age... Geez... I feel like we should stop for now, you don't need the basics in our training, I think we'll go straight to advanced stuff."
Finally able to hear someone, it was Aya, who cleared that fog around, and what I saw made my jaw drop. Aya was sitting on the grass, looking at the boy who had his clothes a little torn, as if he had taken several blades of wind through his body. And I could also see a faint dark smoke coming from his legs. What the hell was this 'little spar' idea?
Some maids came up to us offering fresh juices. I decided to create more little benches of root, so the 3 of us could sit and refresh ourselves with that cold drink. There were no missions for either of us at the moment, so it was okay for us to relax a little and talk to this guy, Luz…
Honestly, who is this kid? His appearance was completely different from the way he spoke to us, even though he was 5 years old, he was very respectful, had considerable mana knowledge and had even started teasing several times, more than my colleague teased him.
I think we'll get along fine…
And for a few weeks these were our routines. On days when one of us were on missions, the other would train that boy, even showing some wind techniques. I swear, he could become a sound deviant before he's 10 years old if he keeps this up.
On one of our training days, he said he wouldn't participate, apparently his brother was already better in terms of the pain of assimilation, and Luz wanted his brother to have a day tour of the capital. I still couldn't believe there was a little boy with a Beast's Will in that castle, but I'd been spying on this Arthur guy myself a few times before, as the king had ordered me to do, so there was no lie in that.
"Sorry girls, you know... Art needs to get out a little so he doesn't go crazy just being stuck in the castle." The wonder boy said to both of us.
"Fine, Luley, but be careful, okay?" Aya continued to use that silly nickname to tease the boy.
"Eh. Relax, according to Grandpa Virion we will be with Tess and we will be watched by a guard in the distance." Him speaking like that, demonstrated his level of intimacy with the royal family.
Little did he know that the guard was me, making me smirk, but I soon covered it up with a laugh.
And so it happened, after an hour or so, I was now watching from a distance, seeing Princess Tessia dressed with a white sleeveless sundress and a white sheer cardigan over it. Her Light pinky sun hat was so cute, it gave her a very doll-like appearance.
The two boys were grabbed by Princess Tessia's hands and went to the city. I could see a lot of people looking at them in surprise. Yeah, two human children were holding hands with our only princess. I sensed that some of the gazes were of pure hostility at Arthur, now I get why Virion wanted me for this job.
When I saw Arthur, Luz and Princess Tessia… they were starting to argue with some noble child, I couldn't see for too far, so I went a little near. That kid was from the Ivsaar Family and he was about to start a duel against the boys. What made me not know what to do… Did I intervene or would they be okay?
Quickly my answer came when I noticed Arthur easily knocking the little noble down while Princess Tessia and Luz pushed him away. They were indeed human, it was not to be expected that they knew what the so-called 'duels' were like in our culture. What made me laugh, but then it would be hard to imagine what would have happened to the poor boy if Luz had been the first to attack.
When I went to inform Elder Virion, he just started to laugh, apparently the boys had already told him what happened. Really, it was a completely silly way to see someone's magic level. But even so, that didn't stop the boys from continuing to go out sometimes to interact with the elven people. Most of those times, I was the guard with the function of watching over the 3 children. While taking advantage of the days they were training with Virion to go on my missions.
According to Aya, there were small moments when Luz went to her to train advanced wind magic, and according to her, she also helped in training with fire magic. When I asked her about it, she told me that she used wind magic to strengthen the boy's fire magic so that he could train movements using those powerful flames. I was impressed how he was managing to train both elements together.
This routine continued for 3 years.
[Luz Leywin POV]
It had been 3 years since my arrival in the Kingdom of Elenoir, I had managed to learn a lot during that time about this world's mana and how it worked. It did indeed resemble the mana from other worlds I had been, but more strangely, it also resembled my homeworld's, but the difference between them was the same as the difference between ordinary ice and dry ice.
I trained more with the elves Aya and Alea than with my real mentor, Virion, which has made him grumpy with me since last year, but still in a friendly way. That didn't take away the fact that he helped me in the process of Assimilating my 'Beast's Will'... Or as I nicknamed the Corruption Essence's version of this world, Corrupt's Will.
Arthur would still take a few weeks to complete his, according to Virion, but today was the day for me to complete mine. Also according to Virion, I was supposed to have completed mine last year, but because of my training with the royal guards, it limited me to taking another year. At least that way I would finish close to Arthur, instead of finishing long before him, it would be sad to leave my younger brother behind.
On the other hand, even if Arthur and I were at the same mana stage when we came here, Dark Red and Solid Red respectively, I had already awakened a very basic form of a Wind's deviant, the Sound. So far I could only create sound barriers and get a sound transferred somewhere else near me, but nothing as amazing as Aya's illusions. I also made a way to force this body to have a physical memory regarding the cast of fire spells in a more efficient way, the mana usage dropped by half.
Finally, I got out of bed, looking forward to today, getting dressed in my usual elven clothes, never forgetting my beret, which still fit me perfectly, I stared at myself in the mirror with a mischievous smile, thinking.
"Hm ... should I try to date someone in this world? Well... I only know one woman so far who is an age to match mine, but I see that Tess only has eyes for my brother, and I will faithfully approve when they get married... Hm... I hope that when we get back to Sapin I will have several options." Those thoughts were logical for someone like me.
Due to the amount of times I revived, I ended up creating a simple moral code. In all my lives, I should act according to my physical age, at least in a social matter. It was something I created to not go crazy with lack of normal interaction, nor to make people suspicious about me.
Even with the several memories that I decided to lock, as a way to protect this physical brain, I still had the basic memory of a life where people believed I was a spy trying to get along with all of them, even after about 3 decades of interactions, all of that due to my interactions being way more "formal" and "mature" compared with my age at the beginning. I would judge them? Nope, they had all the motives to act suspicious of me.
I took a good look at my body, which I now had, was that of an 8-year-old boy, but showing signs of a fit body with some muscle. For sure assimilation really worked miracles on any Augmenter who wanted to show off, even if in return it didn't increase its mana core's stage.
With these things on my mind, I walked out of my room, seeing Tessia heading towards my brother's room to wake him up. My goodness she's really gotten more violent than anything over the years, or should I say... since last year.
Yes, it was at that time that she awakened her mana core. I still remember the scene well, an explosion that caused her to fall from her room straight into the kitchen below. Tessia trained with me, as Virion, Aya, and Alea also taught her. So I knew all too well about her schemes of using Art as a punching bag.
I wished and still wish you all the luck to put up with it, brother...
As I arrived at the breakfast table, I saw Merial, Alduin and Virion there, I waved at them and went to join them to eat. In the middle of our meal, we could hear my brother's screams of horror as Tess woke him up. So as not to be annoying, I activated a sound barrier for us, causing Merial and Virion to laugh a little.
My brother and I had grown quite close to the royal family, and because of Tessia and Arthur's relationship, they already considered us part of the family itself. Even though they hadn't even started dating because of their age, it was obvious to everyone there that they would end up together if things continue like that.
"So Brat! Ready to finish your Assimilation? I really don't understand yet why you disobeyed me by making it take so long." Virion said finishing his meal.
"Father, leave the boy, you know how he is, even if he has the opportunity, he doesn't like to leave his little brother behind." Alduin answered for me, and I just agreed... really, it was hard to imagine that this scene would happen if we were to see our relationship 3 years ago.
"Okay, let's take advantage of Art staying with Tess today so we have the garden to ourselves." I said, also finishing my meal, wiping my mouth with a tissue and getting up, politely removing myself from the table.
"Luz, you sometimes act classlessly and drastically act the opposite way afterwards, why that?" The queen asked before I left with Virion, she always asked that question.
"It is what it is, ma'am." I replied the same thing as always, making her giggle and allowing us to leave.
On our way to the gardens, we saw Arthur walking towards us to also have his breakfast. Virion looked at him with a smirk. "Finally awake now, eh Art? How did your wife wake you up today? Haha!" I smirked as well after his words.
"Urg... wife? Where? I didn't know you could marry demons. You two are turning her into a monster." Art replied, but luckily it looks like Tess took a while to follow him and join us in the hallway.
"She's going to grow up into a fine woman, Art. Better sweep her off her feet before it's too late." Grandpa chuckled with me, and we went back to the gardens while Art and Tess were going to have their breakfast.
It wasn't much of a ceremony when we got there. All it consisted of Old Man Virion exerting a large amout of mana into my core. This would trigger a large surge of mana that I would direct and spread into my body.
"Do you remember the basic phases of a beast tamer, Luz?" He quizzed.
"Yes, all beast tamers have a different number of forms that they can will their bodies into. The number of forms depends on the strenght of the Beast's will that is left in the mana core. There are two phases that all beast tamers have, first is the Acquire phase, that the Tamer can utilize a small portion of the inherent ability that their beast has, and second is the Integrate Stage, where the Tamer's body wholly infuses with the Beast's will, allowing a much better control over their beast's inherent abilities."
"Correct! The phases that the beast tamers are able to unlock simply shows how much they can utilize their beasts' will. The stronger the beast, the harder it is, but at the same time, if the tamer can't get insight, then it is also impossible to get past the first phase. One thing to note, however, is that, not always is the Integrate stage more powerful than the Acquire." He remembered me, his face deathly serious.
"While I didn't tell you and your brother earlier, now that you are about to become a true beast tamer, you should know the differences in how a beast tamer's will is acquired. If you defeat the beast and absorb its mana, you will have more knowledge about it, on the other hand its stages will not be as powerful and it will take a long time to advance. But people like you who got beasts' wills being delivered willingly, can access stages faster and be more efficient. The first are called forged tamers, and you are what we can call a legacy tamer, that are extremely rare."
"By comparison, I'm a forged tamer, and it took me over ten years for me to make a breakthrough into the second phase." Virion continued to explain while he activated his second phase.
I already saw him doing this before, his skin turned pitch black, even the white of his eyes became black while his irises turned sharp and glow yellow. His tied white hair became unbound and was also a shiny black color. His aura could make any normal person take a step back, but not for me.
"Okay, now for a little demonstration." he said, starting to run around me at high speed, stopping at some points and then running back.
I couldn't follow him with my eyes, but after long lives, I could at least predict where some speedsters might end up. He noticed this and started to hide his presence with one of the Shadow Panther's abilities, making me unable to predict him anymore. Even with all my knowledge, my weak, childish body didn't have the senses sharp enough for that. I was forced to use essence vision to see him now, but since this wasn't a thing that mages of this world have, I decided not to use, because it would be "cheating".
He turned back to normal after this. "Whew! Using that form always takes a toll on me. After training with it for a couple decades, I'm able to keep the form on for a bit less than an hour. During my Acquire phase, I am simply channeling a small portion of my beast will and I'm able to borrow the speed and stealth of the shadow panther. However, my Integrate phase, not only did my speed and stealth rise, so did my senses to keep up." I nodded in agreement.
"Good! Now let's begin the ceremony." he replied, clasping his hands together.
We stood face to face, only an arm's length apart. I noticed that Arthur and Tessia finally finished their breakfast and now they were looking at us for a safety distance.
"Just let your mana come out freely. Don't try to control anything. I'll restrain you if necessary so it's crucial that you keep a relaxed state of mind and rouse the particles of mana you assimilated all these years." He instructed.
After a nod in response, he then began exerting mana into my core, flooding my core with his mana along with mine. Instantly, I began feeling a warm and cold sensation at the same time, as if hot and cold gust of air were flowing in and out of my pores. I could feel the mana particles, they seemed to have very intense colors and not only that, they seemed to start changing colors repeatedly in a frantic way, as if they were on the verge of a collapse. The ones that were going more crazier were the black and transparent ones.
As I felt my body reaching its limit, a loud explosion startled me out of my concentration, only for me to see Virion getting thrown back into a tree, while Tess and Arthur fell into the ground rolling back as well.
An unbearable pain immediately surges from my body, as if my skeleton was trying to crawl out of my skin and the mana was trying to enter my body in the place of the bones, as if I was a huge mana collector. Without even the strength to scream my vision darkens. I welcomed the darkness because I knew it would relieve me of my pain and make me go back to my mind world.
I now saw myself again in that magnificent great hall, with a heavenly landscape in the window to my right, a large and imposing carpet that led from my throne to the entrance of the place and beautiful women around me. However, the colors of everything were inverted.
I breathed a long sigh of relief, but that tranquility faded when I noticed someone walking towards me. It was Sylvia… or at least, it was the remnants of her essence, since the last time we'd talked across this world in my mind.
She was identical to the last time, with her human form and black clothes. I saw her smiling gently, not seeming to speak, but I got a mental message from her.
"Take good care of little Grey and my little child. I know he will protect her, but that will make him not take care of himself. Please..."
I didn't understand that message in the beginning, what does she mean 'her little child'? And Grey? Grey was Arthur's old name...? Well, he told me that apparently Sylvia knew his old name, so possibly that was it.
I took a long breath again and answered, speaking directly. "Of course, Lady Sylvia. I will do my best to always help them."
I saw some tears of happiness falling from Sylvia's eyes, and soon, another person showed up in that realm. A man with red spiky hair, wearing something that I could describe as a high-class bartender's uniform. I knew instantly who he was.
"Kiddo, it seems you are able to see me in this reincarnation as well, huh? Took you so long this time to make the essence connect with your soul?" It was him, Zalgnity.
"Sorry to take so long, but at least it wasn't the longest time without you."
"Yeah, I remember, that time took you 40 decades in that world you were an elf, just for that body to accept." We had a heartfelt laugh, and soon I shook my head slightly.
Satisfied with that visit I was making, I closed my eyes for a long time. When I opened them, I was back in my bed in the Royal elf castle.
I sat up feeling surprisingly refreshed. Sitting to my side, laying her head down to my legs was Tess. Looking at me and sleeping like this, it reminded me of how I treated her as if she was my sister.
Old Man Virion walked in soon after and he sat down on the other side of the bed, not bothering to wake up his slumbering granddaughter.
"How do you feel brat?" His lips curl up into a half grin.
"I should be asking you that. I saw you getting your back hit by a tree while my brother and Tessia were knocked back."
"I have to admit I wasn't expecting that great of a force, even Aya and Alea showed up to see if there was a problem."
I was slightly embarrassed by that, but then I remembered a detail. "My brother, where is he?"
"Art still needs some training, next week I think he'll be able to do the Assimilation ceremony too." Virion responded by placing a hand on my left shoulder.
"And...well...then better get ready, I feel that the force of his explosion will be greater than mine... Wait a minute! How long did I sleep??? You said earlier it would take longer than a week for Arthur!"
"Well, Luz... it's just that you slept for about half a month." I was surprised by Virion's words...half a month? two whole weeks?
Oh my fucking god, this was way bigger than I expected.
"Well... and I know you well enough to know that you want to test your new skills, Alea is in the castle in her spare time, while Aya is on a mission... But first of all... I wanted to know, what kind of Beast gave you this will?" With this question, Virion made me think a lot about what I could tell him.
Obviously, it would be intense to tell about me possessing the soul of a fallen greater god and my past lives, but maybe I could speak a half truth. Yes, a half-truth was better, so I started talking.
"Arthur already told you about me not being his blood brother, and being adopted, didn't he?" Virion just nodded and let me continue. "Well, his parents adopted me, after seeing my caretakers dead in the middle of the road... and I was the only survivor of an ambush that happened near Art's town." Virion's gaze was quite startled, well, now it was part of telling the half truth.
"They died... because they couldn't use magic to protect themselves. I was with caretakers instead of my parents, because of this strange thing I have… Since the beginning of my life here, I already had this thing, this beast's will, as you said, inside me. For what I know, people were afraid and decided to make me live far away from them, that is basically the motive of me being ambushed at that point as well." I said this with a heavy sigh to make the story more convincing. "And kind of, this thing I was born with, this curse… it seems to affect things around me in a very different way… I'm even able to see colors that should exist between the elemental category, when I formed my mana core, and now when I was on the process with you."
"Wait! You mean you were born with a thing that I thought was a Beast's will?!? Never heard of it in my entire life!" Virion said not wanting to believe it, but I could see a conflict of thoughts he had.
"If you want you can ask Arthur, I myself saw him receiving his beast's will, but he never saw me receive anything, because I received it before his parents found me, before I was 5 years old, when I was born... And it seems that it only started to affect me after I awakened my mana core."
With my last words on the subject being these, he sighed, the least he could do was believe, as I had brought up the subject of dead family. But still, he tried to change the subject.
"But can you tell me what kind of beast's will Arthur has?" I watched him, I knew his curiosity was already high on us, but with the things I said, he sounded like a professor who found he was just touching the tip of the iceberg.
"That's just up to him." I answered him, he gave me a light pat on the shoulder, now walking out of my room.
I glanced at my little sister, Tessia, for a few seconds and tried to wake her up with light nudges on the cheeks. She opened her eyes and hugged me tightly, and I returned the hug. "Don't scare us like that... Art and I were worried about you..." She spoke in a muffled voice as her face was on my shoulder.
"Alright... relax... I'd like to see what my new abilities are now, sis, so... could you let me out?" I spoke to her in a caring voice, but she simply did an "MHM!" in response and hugged me tighter.
I insisted a little more and after 10 minutes she finally released me and said she would check on Art's training. I wanted to see him too, but I was more interested in how this "first phase" would affect me.
I walked through the corridors of the gardens, eventually finding Alea who was enjoying the scenery while having tea. I caught her attention and she responded in the same way as Tessia, she hugged my body tightly, almost trapping me to her beauty.
"A-alea, please... I can't breathe." I said the universal keyword, making her let me go.
"You don't know how worried we were when we felt that burst of mana. Seriously, Aya even cried for you to have an idea!"
"Wait, did that sadistic cry?" I said with a raised eyebrow, taking a light punch to my shoulder. "Okay okay, I understand... Sorry, neither I nor Virion imagined how intense that would be"
"Okay. What did you come looking for me for? Or did you just want to see your Big Sister Alea?" she said with a playful tone at the end.
"I wanted to test my first phase, and I wanted you to create wood targets for me to attack." When I said now, she was the one with a raised eyebrow.
"That's all? Okay, but be careful." She said and I agreed, we went to one of the training rooms of the elven royalty guards, it was like an annex of the castle for those guards who couldn't leave the area.
There were some guards there who looked at me, some just watched and others even greeted me, it seemed that my two great elf friends were talking about me to them. We stood next to each other, with a great distance between us and the wall of that training place, and from there Alea created several wooden dolls at different distances.
"You can start." When she said that, I activated my Acquire Phase. Causing a light layer of dark purple and red to surround my body.
I started by creating a fire in one of my hands, but when I finished to create it, instead of an ordinary fire, I had made a fire of color between white and blue. We looked at this in surprise, with some guards who decided to watch us from afar making noises of amazement.
I launched the blue fireball towards the nearest wood dummy, and what happened was shocking. Instead of burning the doll, the fire covered it and soon after froze the roots in a dense ice. Everyone there was silent watching that, while my eyes sparkled with emotion, with a wide smile on my face.
As the next attack, I used a wind blow, releasing wind mana in a blade format. I ended up hitting the frozen doll, creating several cracks, but without destroying it, while the dolls half away were hit and almost all were cut. That could only mean that that strange ice was a lot tougher than it should have been. In doing so I try to use the technique I developed with Aya, of uniting wind in my flames to make it more potent.
The fire I created now was neither red nor blue, it was a moss green. I continued with that wide smile as I heard footsteps, I wasn't even caring about the surroundings anymore, looking at that moss-colored fire gave me a feeling of power, and I didn't understand why, until I threw it at the dolls that were at the end of the training room.
At the beginning of the trajectory, nothing much happened, but soon all the guards gave a cry of surprise, including Alea. Around that flame, vines were forming, emerging from the floor, ceiling and walls, surrounding the flame and following with its trajectory, forming a kind of thick thorn of plants with a green light at the tip, this attack ended up hitting all the nearby dolls, and when It got to the farthest doll that was my real target, that tangle of vines exploded into thorns that hit all the other dolls at their backs.
Those thorns resembled those of roses, only slightly larger, and on the ground there was the trail of the attack, several petals of different colors.
I turned around to see everyone with gaping mouths as Alea tried to say something but continued to stutter nonstop. It made me look at my hands for a few seconds and remember a super important factor that Virion taught me...
Plant Deviants could only exist in pure elves.
And I, a human with access to fire, an element no elf would dream of learning, just used a plant spell, thanks to my "first phase" of my Corrupt's Will.
I ended up falling on my butt on the floor, the shock of it really made me lose my balance for a moment and I deactivated this phase…
My brain was trying to come up with logic related to how I did this… No…
It's more of: How did I do this without triggering the curse?...
Due to how my curse works, I am supposed to never achieve godhood, nor never be able to go beyond what mortals in this reality could do. These ideas are what trigger an early death. This means that I was supposed to die the moment I casted those things, right in front of Alea, maybe by having a heart failure, or by some vital part of my body exploding internally…
It's always something like this, I don't believe that I ever had a painless death when things trigger this way, but…
So why am I still alive?
Maybe there is some logic inside the power I used that actually doesn't trigger anything outside of mortal achievement… What could it be?
Luckily, I was able to understand it after just a few seconds of thinking…
"The Ice ability… normally fire magic takes the energy from the mana particles and then outputs it as heat for the outside world. Corruption may invert the polarity of energy, transforming Fire into a 'Absorb Heat' spell." I thought to myself. "But, how about the plant thing? I used Wind and Fire for this…"
"Maybe… Maybe the fire decided to convert the mana energy into a different type of heat, one that is more soft and welcoming… Like sun rays…? Yeah… probably the fire part worked as sun rays, and the wind part was helping the plants to feel even more that warm energy, making them grow in rapid speed…"
Thank lord… So what I did was inside basic natural behavior that exists in other worlds. Now, it's time to come out of this brain monologue.
"We'd better... go to the castle... and speak about this with Virion... right? ha...haha..." I laughed extremely awkwardly at what happened, trying to snap them all out of their trance, at least Alea came out of the trance of that intense fright and took my hand.
"Guys, nothing happened here, understand?" Alea was still saying with a disbelieving expression on her face, and all the guards who saw us there agreed. So I was taken back to the castle.
Arriving there, we ended up finding Virion, he was talking to the King and Queen at the time. Alea caught his attention, which made them think something wrong happened, since it wasn't like her to interfere with the royal family's conversations.
"What's wrong Alea? Was there a problem with the kid?" Virion looked at me, thinking I had done something very wrong, well I had in a way.
"Yes, did something happen?" Merial approached us, while Alduin stood a few steps behind watching the scene.
"L-luz... h-he-he did something... that breaks any logic..." She said, getting back in shock by remembering the scene.
"HA! Brat! What did you do? From the look on her face you did something extremely amazing for an 8 year old boy with a solid Red core." Virion said laughing, but then Alea looked at him steadily, which made him really weird about the situation.
"My first phase... somehow allowed me to... make my flames have an ice effect." When I said that, the eyes of the royal family present there widened in surprise. "And... Somehow... I managed to use plant magic."
"..." Everyone was silent, staring at me with a blank stare, as if they were listening to the greatest blasphemy of mana's fundamentals, but that silence was broken with Virion laughing again.
"Hahahaha! Brat! Are you saying that you accessed a Water Deviant spell using fire, and on top of that you accessed a Deviant spell that only pure elves can do?! Really, did the first phase drive you crazy???" He said still laughing, but Alea and I kept looking at him seriously.
"Wait...this is a joke...right? It's not possible to use ice through fire and access plants while being a human...right? I mean… even a half-elf would be more believable even if it still remains an insane situation…" He was slowly starting to take what we said seriously.
"Yeah... I used plants through a... green fire." With that said, Virion seemed to roll his eyes and fall, but Merial and Alduin managed to hold him back.
Some guards near there came running to see what was happening and if the elder was okay...
Really…
I remembered what I thought well before, some years ago, when I discovered the basics of mana through the books that Arthur gave me.
I had said that only a crazy wizard could make this world move forward, but that same wizard would be beheaded in a public street if all the royalty saw him as a threat to common sense...
Apparently, now... I am that wizard.
