Chapter 22: 22
Chapter Text
Mouse Protector coordinated with Miss Militia, letting her know that she was still in the city. Miss Militia gave Mouse Protector a point to meet Armsmaster and we left the warehouse.
I wasn't fully comfortable with Taylor getting back into action so soon after what happened with Hookwolf, but sidelining her would likely only make things worse. I wasn't the best with this stuff, and I didn't want to push her away. So long as she was near, I could keep an eye on her.
The explosions hadn't stopped, but there were less of them than in the initial chain. Now instead of going off all around us, they seemed to be concentrated to the west towards downtown where the Empire's main stretch of territory was.
I wasn't sure exactly what the ABB's plan was. From what I remembered from the story of Worm, Bakuda only went off the reservation when Lung was captured. That hadn't happened here. Was Lung hoping to frighten everyone into compliance by setting Bakuda loose or was there something else going on?
In the end, it didn't really change much. The bombs would hopefully stop when Bakuda went down. The only reason I wasn't actively searching for her right this second was that she likely had a dead man's switch. I didn't really have a way to counteract that. I was hoping Armsmaster might be able to help with that particular problem.
Maybe she didn't have a killswitch. Maybe it was a bluff. I couldn't remember clearly enough from the story. The possibility that she had one was all I needed to seek out a countermeasure. I wasn't going to accidentally blow up half the city on a 'maybe'.
Mouse Protector had already teleported ahead, leaving Taylor and I alone to run to the PRT HQ where we were told to meet Armsmaster. I could have been there myself by now, but there was no way I was leaving Taylor's side in this chaos. And 'chaos' was certainly the right word.
While most of the explosions were going off in the western part of the city, one or two still blew closer to the docks. People were running through the streets like a school of frenzied fish. No one seemed to know the correct way to flee. Their survival instincts just told them to flee, so they picked a direction and ran, colliding with people running the other direction.
Some streets had police patrol vehicles or PRT personnel trying to guide people orderly towards bunkers built into the street – Endbringer shelters I realized – but panicked people didn't tend to do 'orderly' well. It was a mess. Screams and panicked shouts drowned out all commands, leaving people to shove against each other as they desperately ran towards the perceived safety of the shelters.
"This is awful," Taylor said, watching the scene unfolding below us in obvious pain. "What kind of monster sets off this many explosions in a city? This is the kind of thing that happens during actual wars."
"Don't worry, master. We'll deal with it." I assured her, carefully guiding us away from a collapsed building where paramedics and emergency vehicles crowded around the scene of a particularly devastating explosion. I remembered Bakuda's bombs could produce nightmare-inducing effects. I wasn't certain of Taylor's mental space after what happened with Hookwolf. I wasn't going to let her see any glass statues or human puddles if I could help it.
We finally dropped back down to the street in front of the PRT HQ building. PRT vehicles screamed away in all directions, sirens blaring. Mouse Protector stood amongst a small group in front of the buildings. Armsmaster, Kid Win and Miss Militia were frantically conversing with Mouse Protector as we approached. Distant booms echoed in the background.
"Where's Bakuda?" Taylor demanded, storming up to the group.
Miss Militia froze when she saw Taylor. "Cletiné…you're–"
An explosion interrupted her. Civilians dove behind cover only to get up and keep running when they realized the bomb wasn't nearby.
Armsmaster was laser-focused as he turned towards Taylor. "Bakuda? That is the Cornell bomber, correct?"
"MM says Oni Lee's the one doing this." Mouse Protector said, looking at me for answers. "How sure are you it's this Bakuda person?
"One-hundred percent," I said with certainty. "If I had to guess, Oni Lee's ash clones are just the delivery system for Bakuda's bombs. With his clones, he can probably duplicate anything she makes, giving him an infinite supply of her bombs."
Apparently, the Protectorate was not aware of Lung recruiting Bakuda yet. It made sense. She hadn't been seen in Brockton Bay and she hadn't needed to reveal herself to free Lung. They were working with incomplete information.
Armsmaster gripped his chin in thought. "Bakuda's presence would explain the esoteric nature of many of the devices. Police and PRT personnel are reporting effects one would not attribute to normal explosive ordinance. Many bombs have exploded far away from Oni Lee's current position. We presumed he planted the devices before. If Bakuda is present, it is likely she has a remote detonator she is using to trigger the explosions."
The air cracked as an explosion went off two blocks away. The ground shook beneath our feet. The assembled parahumans staggered to keep their balance.
"All this hypothesising is great and all, but we still need to fix the problem!" MP shouted, clearly losing patience with the discussion.
"I will create a scanner that will hopefully be able to locate where Bakuda is projecting her signals from. With that, we will be able to–"
"Leave finding her to me." I cut in. "I can track her down and end this in half the time it would take you to make whatever device you'd have. If you have some kind of signal blocker though, I'd appreciate it if you'd give it to me. When I find Bakuda, there's no guarantee she won't just blow every bomb they've set when I confront her." I actually had a working plan to stop her from doing that, but I would still need the signal blocker to hopefully cut-off any deadman's switches. The Protectorate might want to take her alive, but I had no intention of doing so.
"I will need several minutes to construct something that will function in that capacity. I can contact Mouse Protector to have her transport it to you when it is ready. How do you intend to find Bakuda?"
"I'm going to use one of my powers. Trust me, it'll work." I was already beginning to trace runes over my forehead in preparation to divine Bakuda's location.
Miss Militia's eyes narrowed as she watched me. "Bakuda does not have a kill order issued against her, Lancer. We still have not had a chance to discuss wh–"
A shockwave knocked Miss Militia and Kid Win to the ground. MP teleported away while Armsmaster's suit locked up in response to the explosion to keep him upright. I stepped in front of the group and erected a shield of runes to protect us from the heat and shrapnel of the exploding building across the street. I was surprised as Taylor reacted a heartbeat slower than I did, standing at my side and creating a massive shield powered by her magic core.
One of the PRT vehicles pulling out onto the street diverted, heading towards the collapsing building. There were people crawling away from the explosion. If the building fell, they'd be crushed.
I stomped on the ground. A rune flared beneath my foot. The ground beneath the building erupted as thick, twisting roots burst from the ground. The roots wound up over themselves, bracing the falling building in place, digging into the ground to support its weight.
MP reappeared. I could see her angry eyes through her helmet. "For fuck's sake, MM! We can have a pissing match later. Now is not the time to echo the party line. Lancer will try to take Bakuda alive, but the rest of us need to get out there. We're useless just standing around like this!"
"Mouse Protector is correct." Armsmaster seemed surprised to hear himself say those words. He reached into a compartment on his belt and pulled out two small earbuds. He frowned. "I only have two spare radios."
"Give them to Mouse Protector and Cletiné." I said. "Cletiné and I can communicate with each other. She'll relay anything I need to hear."
Armsmaster pursed his lips, then nodded robotically, handing the earbuds to Taylor and Mouse Protector. "I estimate it will take me twelve minutes to construct a device capable of disrupting the signals Bakuda uses to broadcast to her bombs. Kid Win, come with me. You will construct an EMP device while I am creating the signal blocker. If the signal blocker fails, the EMP will be able to shut down Bakuda's broadcast device."
"Good. Go team! Call me when you're ready. I'm going to see what I can do about Oni Lee." Mouse Protector vanished.
Miss Militia tore across the street to the site of the collapsing building held up by my roots.
Kid Win ran into the PRT HQ building with Armsmaster behind him. Armsmaster stopped at the door and turned around.
"Cletiné," he began hesitantly, as if he didn't know what he was supposed to say. "It is…good to see you on your feet. I understand you were injured last night. I suggest you rest. You can accompany me to my lab and–"
"I'm sticking with Lancer," Taylor cut him off. "Call me when you're done with the device." Taylor spun around and walked away. I followed after giving Armsmaster a salute. He was frowning as he turned to run into the building.
"What do we do? We can't stop Bakuda without the blocker and there's a lot of people in trouble." Taylor asked me, looking conflicted as she watched Miss Militia help pull an elderly man from the wreckage.
"We need to find Bakuda. I want to be ready to stop her the second MP brings me that signal blocker. The faster she is stopped, the faster the bombs are cut off. Trust the emergency services to handle the victims in the meantime."
Taylor's eyes were far away as she watched a paramedic pull a dismembered body from the wreckage of the bomb. It was a young woman. She'd been vaporized from the waist down.
'Bakuda,' Taylor said in my head, her voice quiet. 'You're going to kill her, aren't you?'
'Yes,' I said softly.
Taylor's lips thinned into a hard line. Her hand tightened around Cletiné. 'Good.' Taylor spun around. "We're wasting time. We need to find Bakuda."
I wanted to say something. Taylor hadn't been okay with killing people two days ago. This was a drastic shift. I wanted to make sure she was okay, but I wasn't very good at comforting people. Besides, she was right. We were wasting time.
I activated the runes I traced on my forehead. The city lit up before my eyes. Slowly, the bright space dimmed, leaving only a single light illuminated. A woman, frantically rushing around a small room. She was on the other side of the city.
"Follow me," I said, hopping up onto a nearby building. Taylor traced spears and launched herself into the air after me.
On my own, I could have made it to Bakuda in under a minute. Keeping pace with Taylor to ensure I didn't leave her alone, it took us closer to eight minutes.
I had us halt atop a roof across the street from Bakuda's workshop. We crept to the edge of the roof and peered down.
The building was surrounded by the ABB's red and green colors carrying a wide array of weapons. Rifles, pistols, bats, a tire iron – it seemed they equipped themselves with whatever they had on hand. There were no PRT personnel or Protectorate heroes anywhere near this area. I attributed that to the fact that there were next to no explosions happening here. All of the heroes were occupied with search and rescue or trying to stop Oni Lee as he teleported all over the city and his clones detonated an unending stream of bombs.
Inside the building, my rune-enhanced vision showed me a white outline of a lone woman rushing around a small room, reaching up to shelves and fiddling with things atop a table. Now that we were closer. I could make out more details of what she was doing. She was clearly assembling something. Every few seconds she would reach down to her waist and touch something on her belt. Every time she hit the device she wore, a distant explosion followed moments later.
'Does that radio have a microphone?' I asked in Taylor's head.
'There's a button I can use to talk. Arsmaster showed me.' she said back.
'Let them know we found her and that there's a large ABB presence here. Try to speak quietly. I don't expect them to be able to hear us, but it's always better to be cautious.'
As Taylor quietly reported our findings, I traced a different rune on my forehead. Oni Lee was accounted for. We'd found Bakuda. But the ABB had three capes. Where was Lung?
Taylor sucked in a sharp breath, her head whipping up to look at me. 'Lung is downtown. He's threatening to rampage and order Bakuda to detonate all of her bombs if the heroes don't leave!' Taylor's panicked voice screamed in my head.
I grit my teeth. 'Ask Armsmaster if that signal blocker is ready.'
'But Lung–'
'Taylor, I need that signal blocker right now.'
Taylor swallowed nervously, but relayed my question.
Lung was a problem. The local heroes weren't equipped to effectively deal with him. His power granted him unprecedented regeneration and made him stronger the longer he fought. Naturally, the most effective way to eliminate someone like that was to kill them before they had a chance to grow stronger. Unfortunately, this world's view of such a simple solution was 'Killing bad!', so that would never happen. The heroes would rather fight him while he was at his strongest, leaving the city and its citizens to suffer the collateral damage than to deal with him.
I could deal with Lung in a second. I was planning on dealing with him at some point. Today was as good a time as any.
The problem was Bakuda. I couldn't be certain she didn't have a way to know when Lung was dead. I might not be able to get back to her in time to take her out before she detonated the rest of her bombs. I had to take care of her first.
Unfortunately, I couldn't just charge in and kill her. She almost certainly had a dead man's switch which would trigger her bombs when I killed her. I needed Armsmaster's signal blocker to stop her death from causing a chain-reaction ending with Brockton Bay turning into a smoking crater.
At the same time, I needed a way to stop her from triggering any further bombs while she was still breathing to support Lung. I already had a way to do that, but it would be better to just use the signal blocker.
If push came to shove though, I could use Ath nGabla. It was a curse created using runecraft, devised by the Knights of the Red Branch. The curse locked the target and the caster into a 1v1 duel. Neither side could receive any support from allies. Neither side could retreat. The duel would last until one of them is dead. It's how I saved Taylor from Hookwolf. The moment I cast the curse on him, Hookwolf was forced by the curse to let Taylor go because she was not part of our duel. It prevented Taylor and Mouse Protector from doing anything to him, but that didn't matter because I was already moving in to finish him off at the time.
In most cases, using the curse carries a risk because it binds the caster to the same restrictions the target is bound to. For me, in this world, most of those risks were negligible. I doubted I would find someone able to actually defeat me in combat. There were very few parahumans that I wasn't sure wouldn't immediately die to Gae Bolg. Bakuda certainly wasn't one of them.
Still, it didn't feel like the best option in this situation. While using the curse on Bakuda would prevent her from detonating any explosives that didn't target me, preventing her from continuing to detonate bombs in the city, Armsmaster's signal blocker would do the same thing. The signal blocker would also block the dead man's switch which Ath nGabla couldn't. The curse wouldn't persist after she died, allowing the dead man's switch to activate uninterrupted. If I activated the curse before I had the signal blocker in hand, I wouldn't even be able to use it. Someone handing it to me would constitute as outside help, making it a violation of the 1v1 duel to the death.
Plus, the curse would lock me into combat with her with Lung and Oni Lee still on the field. I didn't expect Bakuda would give me trouble, but it was better to be prepared just in case. Lancer servants had a poor habit of being brought low by the dumbest, most avoidable circumstances that played exactly into the specific servant's one or two existing weaknesses, or, if they didn't have such weaknesses, the events leading to their demise were shrouded in unfairness to the point it seemed the world was predisposed to enjoy watching Lancers die. I didn't want to carry that tradition on.
Painful as it was to wait, the signal blocker was the better choice. We could deal with Lung once Bakuda was dealt with.
Taylor's eyes widened. She looked up at me in concern. 'New Wave and Dauntless are fighting Lung! Mouse Protector and Velocity are trying to stop Oni Lee but they can't get him to stay still. We need to hurry.'
'We can't do anything until I have that–'
Mouse Protector appeared right in front of us. "From Armsy!" she tossed a small black box with three antennas sticking out of it to me. "EMP is taking too long so you're stuck with that. Stop Bakuda!" Mouse Protector vanished again.
I grinned as I held what I assumed to be the signal blocker I'd requested from Armsmaster. Finally.
'Cover me,' I said to Taylor. I astralized, leaping from the roof of the building through the wall into Bakuda's workshop. I brought my spear to bear as I rematerialized stabbing down towards her from behind in a reenactment of what I did to Night.
A pop sounded the moment I rematerialized. A small orb sitting on one of the desks fizzled.
"Ah!" Bakuda screeched as I appeared behind her. She didn't even turn to face me. The pop must have been some kind of warning system that someone was in her lab. How had she made that into a bomb?
Bakuda snapped her fingers and a tiny bomb on her belt detonated. There was a bright blue flash of light like a lightning bolt and Bakuda was gone.
I stood there dumbly for a moment. I had no idea how that bomb sensed me so fast after rematerializing and was trying to figure out how I gave myself away.
A trio of explosions sounded one-after-the-other outside on the street. The building shook.
'Lancer! What's happening!' Taylor demanded.
Several bombs lying on tables around me beeped ominously.
"Oh," I said dumbly.
'Taylor erect a shield around yourself now!' I screamed through our bond as I astralized.
The building disintegrated around me as dozens of bombs detonated simultaneously. I heard screams from outside as the gangsters were caught up in Bakuda's attempt to destroy me. Astralized as I was, the bombs were unable to hurt me. It wasn't me I was worried about.
I zipped out of the inferno of still exploding bombs, rushing towards the building where I'd left Taylor. A shining shield of runes sheltered her. She held both hands in front of her, teeth grit as she put all she had into surviving a building-destroying amount of energy. Her shield was holding. The building beneath her was another story. It didn't have her shield to protect it.
The building crumbled beneath Taylor's feet. She screamed in a panic, moving to trace a spear to pull her away.
I rematerialized, catching her and leaping away from the exploding wreck of a building behind us.
'What the fuck just happened!' Taylor demanded.
'Apparently Bakuda can make teleportation bombs. She ran away.'
In the distance, the boom of explosions echoed like the beating of a drum. There were far more bombs exploding than there were a second ago.
I grit my teeth. This was my fault. I spooked Bakuda and now she was retaliating by destroying the city. The signal blocker was useless to stop her because she teleported away from its range. MP hadn't told me how far away I had to be for it to work, but it was certainly closer than I was right now.
'I need to stop Bakuda right now before she triggers more bombs. I can move faster on my own, but I don't want to–'
'Go!' Taylor cut me off. 'I'll meet up with MP or Glory Girl. If I get into a situation like before I'll use a Command Seal to pull you back. I learned my lesson.'
More explosions shook the city block around us.
'Go, Cu! I'll be okay!' Taylor assured me.
Leaving her went against every instinct I had. Especially after last night, I didn't want her out of my sight, but I needed to fix this. Despite what happened with Hookwolf, she was strong enough to look after herself for a few minutes.
'I'll be right back.' I assured her. I set her down on the roof of a tall building and spun around. I reapplied the runes I'd used to track Bakuda the first time. The moment the bomber's location lit up – she was in a shop on the docks – I astralized and sprinted right towards her.
Without having to wait for Taylor, I moved fast. The street was torn up. More and more bombs exploded around me. People were screaming and running in terror. There were bodies all over the street.
I needed to end this.
I landed outside the shop Bakuda was in – it was a typical touristy shop with keychains and magnets and mugs – and crept inside, still astralized.
"–the fuck! How the fuck!" Bakuda was screaming. "Invisible bastard tries to kill me, the fuck! We'll see how he likes this shit!" She hit a button on her belt. Another explosion sounded in the distance.
My eyes widened. I was right next to her! Why didn't the signal blocker…?
I was astralized. The signal blocker was astralized. I needed to end this, but I needed to make sure she didn't run this time.
I crouched down behind a shelf so I was out of Bakuda's view and rematerialized. Silently, I traced four runes in the air and whispered, "Ath nGabla." I felt the curse take effect. Now she couldn't run.
I heard Bakuda reach down and fiddle with her detonator. There was no click of a button, almost as if she was prevented from pushing the button by some unseen force.
"The fuck!" she cried. "What the–"
I exploded out from behind the shelf, spear already stabbing towards her.
Bakuda's eyes widened. She saw me, but she didn't have a bomb to give her advance warning of my arrival this time. She was far too slow to do anything other than watch as my spear cut through the air towards her.
My eyes caught a glint of light. She was holding a small, chrome-shelled bomb. It looked like the teleportation bomb she'd used to get away from me the first time.
I grinned as my spearpoint neared her chest. She couldn't run this time.
A flash of blue like lightning.
My spearpoint fell. The air ruptured, creating a boom in the wake of my spear. Bakuda was not skewered to the end of my spear. I wasn't standing in the shop on the docks. Yellow grass expanded out to the horizon in all directions. The only break in the grass was a long, paved road that stretched in one direction. The sun shined bright. There were few clouds, thin against the bright blue sky.
Where the hell was I?
I looked around, freezing as I saw a white sign that read, 'Welcome to OKLAHOMA'. There was a multicolored design next to the words that created a star in the white space.
Gae Bolg dangled from my arm loosely at my side. I stared uncomprehendingly at the sign in front of me with a tilted head.
What?
How in the…? Ath nGabla was still active! I felt the restrictions of the curse compelling me to end Bakuda's life. I shouldn't have been able to leave the fight. Bakuda shouldn't have been able to…
I narrowed my eyes, activating my runes as I searched for Bakuda. She was so far away I felt only the faintest trace of her. The only reason I could feel her at all was because of the connection we shared through the curse. If I really was somehow in Oklahoma, then Brockton Bay should be somewhere north-east of me. Why were my runes telling my Bakuda was to my south-west?
My eyes widened as I remembered the teleportation bomb Bakuda had been holding.
Ath nGabla prevented either party from running. It didn't stop you from attacking. As a matter of fact, forcing the two parties to fight was kind of the whole point of the curse. Had Bakuda been trying to attack me with the teleportation bomb when I tried to kill her? Did we both get caught in the radius and it hurled us to the four winds? Did it not count as a retreat because she'd been trying to attack me?
"Did that bitch just accidentally rules lawyer my curse? This is bullshit!" I screamed.
'I found Mouse Protector and Oni Lee.' Taylor's voice spoke in my head. 'I noticed the bombs stopped. Good job. Once you get back we'll help MP with Oni Lee.'
I sighed. 'Bakuda's still alive.'
'What? But the bombs stopped.'
'I hit her with a curse that stops her from attacking anyone but me. The curse counts her using bombs to attack civilians as her attacking someone else, so she is restricted from detonating anything that isn't specifically targeted at me. She should have died right after, but then she pulled some magical, lucky bullshit out of her ass and teleported me to Oklahoma. It feels like she wound up somewhere in New Mexico. The curse works both ways. I literally can't do anything other than chase and kill her because of it, so I'm out of action until she's dealt with.'
'…what? Oklahoma? How did…? Can't I just call you back with a Command Seal?'
I thought for a moment.
'That might work, but I don't want to risk it. I was the one who cast the curse. I accepted the conditions of it without them being forced upon me. It's hold on me is stronger because of that. The curse prevents me from receiving outside help like a Command Seal, but a Command Seal is strong enough that it should be able to overpower it. If it fails…'
I sighed. I was good with runes, but there was a lot about magic and magecraft I hadn't studied on. I was a warrior first. I only learned runes because Scathach literally beat them into me. I could really use my old teacher's input with this little debacle.
'Only use a Command Seal to bring me back if there is no other choice,' I finally decided. 'Due to the weird circumstances, it feels risky. I don't want the curse proving stronger than the seal and having the seal rebound into you. A Command Seal has too much power for me to feel comfortable letting you experiment with whether or not it'll rebound and hurt you. I'll sort this out as fast as I can and get back to you. Is Oni Lee still able to use his bombs?'
'I… Yeah, his are the only ones still going off. MP is trying to stop him, but he can teleport just as freely as she can and he makes clones too. She's struggling.'
'Figures. Bakuda would have given him bombs he could trigger on his own. What about Lung?'
'He's getting really big. Assault and Battery joined New Wave and Dauntless but they still can't contain him. Armsmaster is coming with a specialized tranquilizer but he's still eight minutes away and keeps getting delayed by bomb wreckage.'
"Shit," I cursed under my breath. I'd gotten myself into quite the predicament here. A servant's job was to help their master, but I was stuck states away from my master and would have to go further away before I could head back to her.
'Taylor,' I said seriously. 'I botched this up pretty good. I'm sorry I'm not there. What do you want to–'
'I'm not leaving, so don't even try that.' Taylor cut me off.
Despite myself, I grinned at the iron in her voice. Where did the timid little master who summoned me go? When did she become so confident?
'Alright, but do not fight Lung. Hookwolf and Night showed we need to work on your giant monster tactics. No fighting giant monsters until we work on it.'
'No fighting giant monsters.' Taylor agreed. 'I'm going to help MP with Oni Lee.'
'Overpower your reinforcement with mana. His clones can teleport behind you and drop bombs. Spam shields and do not hesitate to spear him through the heart. I don't care what happens to Oni Lee, whether he dies or escapes, so long as you walk away. Stick with MP. She'll cover you and make sure you don't get caught out alone.'
'Don't you have a Bakuda to kill? Quit micromanaging me and go deal with her so I can summon you back to kill Lung.'
I chuckled. 'As my master commands. You've got this, Taylor. I'd give you even odds against some other masters from the Grail Wars I know of. Trust me, that is a major compliment. Keep your head and show these idiots what the pupil of Culann's Hound can do!'
There was a pause before Taylor replied.
'Thanks, Lancer,' I heard a smile in her voice. 'Let me know when Bakuda's dead.'
I felt her presence slowly fade from my mind.
The proud smile on my face slowly fell, replaced by irritation. I tossed one last glance over my shoulder at the sign welcoming me to Oklahoma. I seriously considered blasting it with runes for no reason other than to vent some of my frustration before I shook my head and astralized. It wasn't an inanimate object's fault I was in this mess. No, this was purely of my own doing.
I took off at my full speed towards the small point of energy my runes told me was Bakuda. She was far away.
It was a good thing I was an undead wraith that didn't need rest, food or sleep. This little trip was going to take a while. I really wished I hadn't botched this whole thing and left Taylor alone, but despite what happened with Hookwolf, I had faith in her. This situation was far different from the Empire's ambush. There were fewer capes for one. Oni Lee was dangerous with those bombs, but most of the danger from the bombs was eliminated when I cut Bakuda off with Ath nGabla.
Taylor had backup and she wasn't charging into an unknown situation. Besides, What noble hero of legend didn't almost die at least once? It was practically a right of passage!
I was willing to bet that by the time I finally tracked down and murdered Bakuda for humiliating me like this, Taylor would have sorted the situation with Oni Lee.
"I'm rooting for ya, kid." I said to myself. "Kick some ass."
