"Jackal is a lure—a very important one. His cloning technology is... truly unique, one might even say formidable."
Otto pondered for a moment, gathering his thoughts before explaining the situation. "Generally speaking, even for a telepath, transferring a person's memories into a cloned body doesn't mean that person has been resurrected. In all likelihood, these are still two completely distinct individuals, unless you possess some other means to achieve the transfer of consciousness."
The former was the situation with the Otto that Peter had encountered previously; though one Otto after another kept appearing, they couldn't necessarily be considered the same person, perhaps merely clones implanted with memories.
The latter, however, was the cloning technology of the Inheritors. They transferred their consciousness and memories into spirit crystals—the crystals were the core of the soul, while the physical bodies were merely remote-controlled terminals, thus achieving a form of immortality.
"But Jackal's cloning technology has reached an... unimaginable level. His clones can ensure that the soul truly lives again, even with the original having undeniably perished. I don't know how he does it, but that's what the Ghost Rider Spider-Man said."
Otto stated this terrifying fact with such nonchalance before turning to look at Peter. "Now do you understand why Jackal is so important?"
For anyone, especially villains, a person capable of large-scale, perfect cloning—where the cloned body ensures a genuine resurrection—was undoubtedly a highly coveted prize.
Peter almost instantly thought of a potential suspect.
"The Inheritors?"
"Who are they?"
Superior Spider-Man Otto himself looked puzzled, unaware of what the name Peter had just mentioned represented. After a pause, Peter felt a bit amused; he hadn't expected Otto to be unfamiliar with them. He hesitated slightly before explaining it to Otto.
While he was speaking, Peter felt Cindy tugging on his hand. He looked at her and asked, "What is it?"
"It's nothing, I just feel... it's a bit strange."
"Are you not feeling well?"
Otto looked at Cindy—he clearly didn't recognize the girl at all—and continued explaining to Peter: "I created this lure not just for the sake of resurrection, but because I discovered that a group of people with the ability to traverse the multiverse is recruiting the Sinister Six, or Spider-Man villains, from across the entire multiverse. I intend to find the person behind this."
Although he said that, Peter, connecting the dots, still thought of the Inheritors first. They certainly had massive requirements that matched perfectly—whether it was more advanced cloning technology or the need for a large number of hounds. The Inheritors could indeed be seen as scouring the multiverse for Sinister Six teams to build their army of hounds.
However, for some reason, even without evidence, Peter felt that what the Otto before him was talking about and what he himself was referring to were not the same thing.
Cindy tugged on Peter's sleeve again and shook her head. Otto seemed to notice something and asked, "Is your girlfriend alright? Does she need to rest?"
Peter had seen Cindy when she was sick; it was clear this wasn't due to poor health. He felt as though Cindy was anxious to pull him away, as if there were some danger nearby that even his spider-sense or her chi couldn't detect.
"Perhaps your intentions are good, but don't you think your plan itself is excessive? You're putting an entire city at risk. Hundreds of villain clones—no Spider-Man could handle that."
"But by the same token, there are also nearly a hundred Spider-Man clones. I am not shooting without a target, Spider-Man."
Peter stared closely at Otto. His spider-sense told him that Otto was not lying. The Otto in front of him might be extreme in his methods and other aspects, but he was certainly not a villain.
Moreover, Cindy's state indeed seemed quite poor.
Caught in his confusion, Peter considered the current situation and looked at Otto. "Fine, Otto, I'll trust you for now, but my friends and I will be keeping an eye on you."
After the other Peter Parker left, Otto shook his head. Naturally, he hadn't told the whole truth—neither about his own ruthless methods nor the true strength of his enemies.
He turned, deep in thought, and began typing on the keyboard. This quantum supercomputer was no ordinary machine; every one of its computing nodes was an "Otto Octavius," or rather, what really enhanced the computer's efficacy were the souls of the various Ottos that the Ghost Rider Spider-Man had captured.
This was also his way of unfolding the data of the multiverse.
He turned around, intending to return to his seat, when he discovered a young man dressed like Elvis sitting in his chair.
Prior to this, his spider-sense had been completely silent, but at this moment, it felt as though it was about to explode.
He thought of the reaction of the young girl who had been with the Peter from the other universe.
Could it be that the girl wasn't feeling unwell, but rather had used her spider-sense to foresee this terrifying person before them?
Otto's expression shifted several times until the man stood up and looked at him with a smile.
"Otto Octavius, Superior Spider-Man of Earth-6160. I have no interest in your universe, but you—you really are quite special. You possess the traits of both a hero and a villain."
If Peter had stayed to hear the Beyonder's words, he would have been greatly astonished. Earth-6160 was merely a designation for the so-called "New Ultimate Universe," a world originating from Dashboardan experiment by the villain The Maker, who sought to control the world by altering the fates of its heroes.
However, The Maker himself was Mr. Fantastic of Earth-1610; at this very moment, The Maker had not yet been born, and Earth-6160 was still a very harmonious, ordinary universe.
But Otto did not consider the person before him to be some harmless cosplayer.
"Should I say thank you?"
The other man laughed.
"Let me introduce myself. I am the Beyonder, from the Beyond Realm. I intend to host a multiversal-scale war, organized in teams of six. You are honored to have received my invitation. Your Spider-team is very much to my liking."
"But your team seems to be missing one member? Very well, go and assemble your team."
