Chapter 782 - Chapter 782: You Are Fighting a Ghost

Peter actually knew exactly where the Jackal was—somewhere in this very area.

Large-scale cloning requires a massive amount of power. In a world where no other companies possess超-high technology besides Oscorp, anyone capable of investigation could easily locate the Jackal's position simply by tracking electricity usage—and in all likelihood, he was probably stealing electricity on top of that.

The area Peter found with a concentrated surge of electrical current was the only place that fit the bill. Furthermore, according to calculations from his nano-suit and other equipment, the Jackal in the laboratory above was undoubtedly a fake. That being the case, the real Jackal had to be hiding somewhere in this facility.

"And you think he's hiding deep underground? So we have to keep running down this endless elevator shaft?"

Peter and Gwen were climbing down the shaft together. Peter offered some of his own professional experience: "Well... it's mostly a matter of experience. I've encountered two villains who specialized in cloning: Mr. Sinister and Doctor Octopus. Without exception, they all loved digging underground to conduct their experiments. So, I figured the Jackal would likely make the same choice. I hope I didn't miscalculate."

"Alright, then if we find the Jackal in a moment, can you leave him to me?"

"Of course, I suspect I'll have to leave it to you, Gwen."

Peter's reasoning was sound. Back on Earth-65, Gwen had been deeply involved in the final battle involving Spider-Gwen without triggering any "Web of Life and Destiny" events. Her ability was enough to make the entire world forget her, and since the world had forgotten her, it naturally wouldn't cause any reality-bending repercussions.

Given that, to avoid triggering any Web events, Peter was fully prepared to support Gwen in stepping up to give the Jackal a beating. Gwen, for her part, was quite looking forward to teaching this perverted Jackal a lesson. The two descended rapidly through the elevator shaft, and before long, they reached the deeper levels, spotting another entrance in the shaft wall. They exchanged a glance.

Peter used his nanobots to open the elevator doors, and the two immediately stepped inside. Once they entered the deep underground laboratory, Gwen couldn't help but let out an exclamation of shock.

It wasn't that she lacked sophistication, but the scene here was far more spectacular than any Sinister Six, Sixteen, or Sixty.

Along both sides of the white metal corridor stood four rows—each with countless ranks—of containers. Inside were fully-equipped, unactivated clones. They were almost exclusively various villains from Spider-Man's rogues' gallery. The "Sinister Sixteen" were stacked row by row, four-by-four; a single glance revealed that there were over a hundred of them.

"I'm worried that this is the Jackal's true trump card—not some Sinister Sixty, but a Sinister Six-Sixty-Six," Peter quipped. He walked up to a cloning vat and looked utterly bewildered: "Cloning is one thing, but where on earth did he find the gear for all these cloned villains? This equipment looks incredibly high-end. And there are dozens of Venoms... where did he get so many? Is Venom sold wholesale in this universe?"

Venoms from different universes did have different origins, but finding enough to wholesale was rare. Peter felt deeply confused as he walked between rows of villain walls. How could the Jackal have the money to acquire so much gear?

"Gwen, don't kill him... it looks like this Mr. Jackal has a lot of secrets we don't know about yet."

As Peter spoke, he hacked into the system. As the automatic doors slid open, another laboratory appeared before them. Gwen felt nauseated at the sight: the glass vats lining the walls on both sides contained clones of Gwen Stacy and Spider-Man.

"I'm going to beat him to a pulp. Absolutely."

"Ah, welcome, Spider-Man from another world."

Sitting at a computer and observing his clones battling the two Spider-Men of this universe via surveillance, the Jackal stood up. He didn't seem surprised by Peter's origin at all. "I was wondering why the two losers of our universe managed to handle these clones and find my hideout. Now I understand—it's because you were helping them."

"But I still admire your courage. To appear before me alone—you seem far too confident in your own strength," the Jackal said, raising his hand. "Come, Spider-Man from another world. Let me see if you can handle my Sinister Six-Sixty-Six... Ow!"

Before the Jackal could even give the order, he tripped as if he had sprained his ankle and fell to the floor. Peter watched him, staying alert while deadpanning: "So it really is the Sinister Six-Sixty-Six? You're really bored, aren't you? Spider-Man doesn't have that many villains; I doubt you could even scrape together sixty."

"Don't mock me, Spider-Man! I will soon be able to..."

As the Jackal gripped the wall, intending to stand, his foot slipped again. He crashed hard onto the floor, face-planting so violently that he lost several teeth. Peter put his hands on his hips and looked around curiously, but nothing else seemed to be happening, so he asked with genuine concern: "Sorry, but you don't look so good. Did your legs go numb from sitting too long?"

"You mother-f..."

The Jackal hadn't even finished climbing up when his foot slipped again, sending him face-first into the ground. Then, seemingly due to the vibration, a toolbox on a nearby shelf fell directly onto his head. Dazed and wobbling, the Jackal stood up, but before he could finish his next curse, he stepped on a flashlight that had rolled out of the toolbox. He slipped again, landing flat on his back.

His face smashed directly into a desk, looking miserable. He was covered in blood and knocked unconscious on the spot. Peter leaned in curiously, wondering if the Jackal had wandered onto the set of a slapstick comedy.

"Alright, job done. I didn't kill him; he knocked himself out."

Gwen suddenly materialized beside Peter and clapped her hands. It was only then that Peter realized what had just happened: the Jackal had been mercilessly beaten by Gwen as if she were a ghost, and he hadn't reacted once throughout the entire ordeal.

"Your ability really is absurd..."

Peter muttered, stepping forward to check him with the Anti-Venom. He nodded in satisfaction: "Good, this guy is the real deal, not a clone."
