Lux opened his eyes.
The first thing he saw was the ceiling.
His bedroom ceiling.
Dark wood. Gold trim. Familiar chandelier. The faint shadow of his own curtains swaying near the balcony because someone had left the window slightly open.
Home.
That meant he was not dead.
Lux stared at the ceiling for several seconds and let his body report.
Abdomen? Sore.
A sharp line of pain remained where the root had pierced him, but that was nothing. Ugly, yes. Painful, yes. Something he would complain about for emotional leverage, absolutely. But nothing fatal.
He had bled.
So what?
He was a demon.
As long as the attack did not shatter his core or poison his authority beyond repair, flesh wounds were mostly temporary inconveniences with dramatic lighting. He had regeneration. He had Dark Healing.
No, the wound was not the true problem.
The true problem sat deeper.
