"Koa!" Lyra called, panting, "Can you slow down?"

The noon sun was beating down on their backs, Lyra and Proclus already drenched in sweat. Koa was distracted, reading over his ability. He would need to practice it to better understand how it worked.

"Nope!"

"Can you at least tell us about that hunt you went on?"

Koa paused, thinking. "My father took me on a hunt for a gigavix. We didn't kill it; we came back."

"So the obo are still in danger?"

"Shouldn't be. I talked with the gigavix; it'll leave them alone!"

The two Aeolons turned to look at each other questioningly.

"Talked with it?" Lyra inquired.

"Yeah, he was pretty reasonable!" He said, which gave the other two pause as he continued walking, not noticing their reactions.

"Hear that, Lyra?" Proclus gave Lyra the side-eye. "He had a reasonable conversation with a carnivorous animal."

"Guess that's why he gets along well with you." She couldn't finish without chuckling at Proclus, who was staring at her, aghast.

"More importantly, don't you think you should follow the tracker's lead?" Proclus called out again. Koa acquiesced and slowed down.

"How can you track something made of stone? Do they have specific footprints?"

"Sort of." Lyra stopped, grabbing both their shoulders to stop and point behind them.

"We leave tracks behind as they do, but ours have a shape and a similar distance between each other. I managed to overhear where it was last seen, so I'll try to look for any similar patterns, indents on the ground heading one direction that are a similar size and distance to each other."

"Does it really work like that?"

"Well, that and how fresh the prints can be. The last one we saw didn't care about where it walked or what it trampled over, so I'd be willing to wager that this one is too."

"If it isn't?" Proclus asked.

"Then at least the trip is fun, and you get to avoid Goldry a bit longer."

"Is he really that bad?" Koa looked to Proclus, who nodded his head vigorously

"He made the last person who broke one of his tools clean out his work shed. Poor man wasn't allowed back in the barracks until the stench was gone."

"If you want a place to hide, I know a shelter." Koa prompted before Lyra held out a hand to silence them. They were on a small ridge, with the hill rising to their right.

"Do you guys hear that?" They all stopped, looking around until a faint Thoom reached them, followed by the snapping of wood.

"To our right, over the crest." Koa began to carefully scale the hill on all fours. Proclus and Lyra followed. They carried between them Lyra's small bow, a mallet, a sling, and a club. Lyra had decided to also take a rope, which Koa also carried, as well as a stone pick. As they made their way up, the sound of stomping and crashing grew.

As they crested the hill, Lyra scooted over to a tree, tying one end of her rope around the trunk. Proclus gripped his mallet tightly.

Koa had questioned why they would bring such things against something they had described as a hulking mass of stone. Perhaps it was comfort, the reassurance of holding onto a weapon.

The hill crested to a thick cropping of short trees. Behind the treeline, they saw the gray shape stamp around. It changed direction, moving further away from there before turning again.

"Where's it going?" Proclus asked as its stamping stopped, then proceeded again in a different direction.

"Not sure. Should we split up to follow it?"

"No. Too many risks. We'll keep track of it from up here. If it moves too far, we move with it."

They both looked to Lyra as she crawled next to them.

"What?" She asked.

"Anything else you can tell us?"

"I'm not an expert on it." She protested.

"No, but you survived one gunning for you."

"Well, Proclus knows as much as I- wait," Lyra looked to them, "it stopped. Do you see it?"

Proclus craned his neck, noticing the lack of noise.

"No, I lost sight of it. Koa, did you-"

"Move!" Koakiran called out as something hurtled toward them.
