Chapter 81 — The Velociraptor Eggs

After some time, everyone had finished eating. Just as they were about to get up and leave, Billy looked at the bag and said:

"Dr. Alan, could you give me my bag back now, please?"

Alan looked at Billy suspiciously.

"Billy, you've been wanting that bag back this entire time. What's so important about it?"

Hearing that, Billy grew anxious and replied:

"It's nothing important, Doctor. It's just something personal."

However, Alan ignored his answer and opened the bag. The moment he saw what was inside, he was shocked.

"Velociraptor eggs?!" he exclaimed angrily. "Do you have any idea what you've done, Billy? You've put all of us at risk!"

"Doctor, I was just thinking about our work. Without money for the excavations, we'll have to shut everything down. So, I thought about selling these eggs to get the money we need."

Alan glared at him angrily.

"Do you realize how stupid that idea was? Because of your decision, there's a family of velociraptors looking for their eggs out there! You acted exactly like InGen! You put money above our lives!"

Paul looked at the others and asked:

"But what do we do now? Do we throw the eggs away?"

Dante shook his head.

"I don't think that's a good idea. After all, if we run into the velociraptors, I doubt anyone here will want to tell the prehistoric mommy that we threw her little baby away."

Alan sighed and agreed.

"Dante is right. Carrying these eggs around is dangerous, but it would be even more dangerous if they found us without the eggs."

Dante nodded.

"Then let's get going, everyone."

Everyone agreed and began moving forward.

After some time, they arrived at a place that looked like a huge cage filled with dense fog. Dante walked at the front of the group, his weapon pointed ahead as he remained alert for any sign of danger.

Suddenly, they heard a scream coming from behind them.

Dante and the others immediately turned around and ran toward the sound. When they arrived, they saw Erik being attacked by a pterodactyl.

Without hesitation, Dante raised his weapon and fired at the creature's head. The dinosaur fell to the ground, dead.

After realizing that the immediate danger had passed, Dante looked at the group and said:

"We need to go now. More of them might show up."

"Dante is right. We need to get out of here quickly!" Alan agreed.

Amanda grabbed her son's hand and looked at him with concern.

"Are you hurt, son? Can you walk?"

"Mom, I'm fine. Don't worry," Erik replied.

After making sure the boy was all right, everyone continued walking.

Dante walked at the front beside Bella. Taking advantage of the fact that the others were a little farther away, he leaned discreetly toward her and asked in a low voice:

"So, what do you think of your first experience having to save someone without showing your powers? Being a normal person is pretty complicated, isn't it?"

Bella answered quietly:

"Yes, it's much harder than I imagined. I have to stay alert all the time to avoid revealing my abilities. It's much more complicated than I thought."

Dante smiled.

"You'll get used to it little by little."

Bella smiled as well, although she still seemed a little unsure.

"Yes. I hope so."

After walking for a while longer, they finally reached the boat.

Dante observed the vessel for a few moments before turning toward the group.

"Everyone, I have something to say. I know you all want to leave this place as quickly as possible, but it's already almost nightfall. Besides, there's a Spinosaurus on this island, and it spends much of its time in the water. Going out to sea at night in an old boat while that dinosaur is roaming around doesn't seem like a good idea to me."

Upon hearing that, everyone fell silent for a few moments.

Alan was the first to respond.

"Yes, that's true. I hadn't even stopped to think about that. The Spinosaurus is semiaquatic, so if we try to leave in the dark, we might not even be able to escape it. I think it would be better to set up camp and leave early tomorrow morning. What do you all think?"

Amanda looked at her son and then at the others.

"I really want to get my son out of this place, but I'd rather choose the safest option for him. We can wait until tomorrow."

The others agreed with the decision.

Seeing that everyone was in agreement, Dante began preparing a campfire so they could keep warm throughout the night.
