Though the renovations on the house were not yet complete, he had already hung this wind chime above the door frame, which drew some attention. The town's centenarians clicked their tongues at the sight, saying it wasn't an ordinary wind chime, and vaguely suggested it might be inauspicious.
Others had asked, and the old man hesitantly explained that such a shape of the copper bell wasn't a wind chime; it was used for summoning spirits.
The old man took a step back, further explaining: "Ah, these are just old sayings. Whether it's for summoning spirits or not, such practices are no longer popular now. People coming back from abroad probably don't understand. Hanging it at the door isn't anything more than using it as a wind chime."
