Edmund's POV
If only I had known earlier, I could have avoided the potential drama that was about to unfold. The wedding invitation addressed for the entire Sutcliffe's family crumpled in my hand. Things were about to get complicated and messy once their absence was made known.
Even so, I refused to take the risk should it sparked an ember within Maisie over him. After all, their bonds ran far deeper than mine and with how things have turned, I am at a disadvantage. I am older, poorer and I could not provide her everything compared to Alistair. Yet, I selfishly refused to let her go without putting up a fair fight.
I burned the very wedding invites, throwing all possibilities of being found out. She should not see this ugly part of me.
"What are you doing out here?" She asked.
I quickly dropped the burned paper into the ashtray bin. I also put out the lit cigarette that I had huffed as an excuse and walked towards her.
