Shooters – Part 2
Peter carefully peeked out from the bathroom, looking toward the man, who had a bored expression on his face, even yawning, as if he didn't expect anything to happen.
Peter felt like taking down that shooter would be pretty quick.
His hand slipped slightly out through the bathroom door, and he fired his web-shooter.
Suddenly, a compact ball of webbing shot forward and slammed straight into the guy's forehead with a surprisingly powerful impact.
He dropped unconscious instantly.
Peter leaned out a little more and then looked down at his web-shooter.
"Oh, right…" he muttered when he realized that was the exact one he had damaged.
But he shook his head. Right now, he needed to deal with the other two shooters who could still put the students in danger.
Peter ran through the hallways while staying alert, at the same time tapping the specialized watch on his wrist. It released several tiny spiders that immediately began running in every direction, while a holographic map started appearing from the watch itself, showing the entire school and gradually marking people as the spiders advanced.
A lot of students were hiding inside classrooms, under their desks, while the teachers quickly followed lockdown procedures, locking the doors and making sure nobody made a sound.
Thankfully, Peter was at least somewhat relieved that the shooters hadn't opened fire again after those first two shots, which showed that maybe they weren't just school shooters, but people looking for something specific instead.
But that didn't stop them from being dangerous to the students.
So he had to find them first.
Almost immediately, looking at the holographic map of the school, he found one of them.
He was moving quickly while using that strange device, searching for something.
Peter remembered seeing that same device pointed at him earlier, and frowned. Even so, he moved quickly in that direction.
…
One of the attackers was walking through the hallways with a nervous expression, knowing that the longer they took, the closer the police would get. They only had minutes.
So he kept moving fast while the device in his hand let out faint little beeps.
"This isn't good. We don't have time," he muttered while the device kept making that quiet sound.
Then, suddenly, it started beeping louder and faster.
That made the man smile.
But when he turned toward where the device seemed to be pointing, he suddenly saw a person dressed entirely in black.
The man barely managed to start turning his gun before he was hit square in the face and knocked unconscious.
Peter looked down at the man on the floor and picked up the device for a moment with a confused expression. But when he turned it slightly, he noticed something.
At the center of it was a green sphere, exactly like the one he had found stuck to his shoe.
That made his eyes widen.
"Oh, crap…" he said.
"Ned, are you there?" he asked quickly, touching his ear so he could speak through the tiny spider he had left with his friend.
"Peter? What's happening?" Ned asked, making Peter let out a breath.
But before he could feel truly relieved, he suddenly heard a kick slam the bathroom door open.
"No, no!" Ned shouted right before a gunshot rang out.
Peter immediately ran toward the bathroom without hesitating.
"Where is it?" he heard the man shout at Ned.
"I don't know what you're talking about, sir," Ned said, completely full of panic.
Peter sped up, running full force down the hallway.
"Don't make me repeat myself, kid, or I'll shoot you right in the forehead, and this time I won't miss," the man said, while the dull sound of something slamming against the bathroom wall could be heard, which sounded a lot like Ned's head hitting it.
"I… I don't know, I swear. I don't know what you're talking about," Ned said in pain.
"I'll count to three… and then I shoot. I don't care if I'm wrong," the man said, about to pull the trigger.
But before he could do anything, someone grabbed him from behind and hurled him straight into the bathroom mirrors, making him cough out all the air in his lungs.
"Ned, are you okay?" Peter asked.
"I'm okay. Peter, I'm…" Ned looked up and saw a man dressed completely in black. But the voice that came out was unmistakably his friend's. "Peter…? Why are you dressed like that?" he couldn't help but ask.
But before Peter could answer, he saw the man, even while gasping for air, barely start to rise and lift his gun.
"Wa—!"
Before Ned could warn him, Peter simply flicked his hand backward and, without even looking, a web shot fired straight into the man's forehead, smashing his head back into the floor and knocking him unconscious.
Ned was left completely stunned.
He looked at his friend, then down at Peter's wrist.
"That was really cool," he said as he picked up the small web ball that had rolled across the floor toward him like a rubber ball. "And what is this?" he asked while pressing the small sphere.
"Oh, nothing. Just… an experiment," Peter said quickly.
But under the pressure of Ned's fingers, the small ball burst, as if it couldn't withstand its own pressure anymore, and the webbing spread out like a net, trapping both Ned and Peter where they stood like flies caught in a web.
Ned's eyes slowly lifted back toward Peter and scanned his suit, which was completely black, but still had a very specific shape to it.
"You're Spi—"
Before Ned could shout it, Peter covered his mouth.
At the same time, the sound of police sirens was starting to get closer and closer.
"Yeah… I failed magnificently on my first day as a hero," Peter said, knowing his friend had figured it out almost immediately.
