Chapter 272 - Chapter 272 – "The Limit of Oblivion"

I. The Open Door

The air grew ever denser, but this time not from the expanding emptiness, but from the presence of something deeper. The sky over Edenfall had taken on a reddish hue, as if the city itself were breathing, changing, with each pulse of the golden flower that continued to glow at its center. The light, which once represented hope , now seemed like an uncertain beacon , guiding the inhabitants toward a future they could no longer comprehend .

Akihiko and Kaede advanced through the transformed ruins of Edenfall, the tension between them palpable. Each step they took brought them closer to the truth the void was revealing .

" Do you feel it?" Kaede asked , looking at the golden flower . "The emptiness... it's pulling us toward something. Like everything we know is about to crumble."

Akihiko nodded, his face etched with a seriousness that had been ruthlessly forged over the past few weeks.

" I know. Emptiness isn't just an enemy, Kaede. It's a reflection of what we once were. And when we confront that, we see ourselves. But what happens when all we are… is just a lie?" His voice was barely a whisper, as if he were grappling with a shattered reality .

In the distance, Lirea appeared, her luminous presence contrasting sharply with the somber surroundings.

" What the void is doing is not merely an act of destruction. It is a revelation," Lirea said, observing the golden flower that shone brighter than ever. "It is the truth of the world, the one we had forgotten. And if we do not accept that truth, the void will consume us. But if we do accept it, it will rebuild us."

II. Confronting Memory

The ground began to tremble slightly, and the roots of the Tree of Edenfall rose even higher, spreading through the city as if searching for something . The atmosphere grew increasingly heavy. The living buildings that had once seemed organic now twisted into strange shapes, as if the roots themselves were creating new structures in memory .

Akihiko felt a strange presence beside him, and when he turned, he saw a familiar figure. It was his mother , or at least the image of her , standing beside him, smiling as she did in the memories he had tried so hard to forget .

" Akihiko…" the figure said softly, like a whisper lost in the wind. "Have you forgotten me?"

Akihiko took a step back, surprised, his heart racing with a mixture of desire and fear . It couldn't be. This figure couldn't be real.

" What are you doing here?" she asked, her voice breaking. "It can't be..."

The figure smiled tenderly , but its eyes shone with a sadness Akihiko had been afraid to face.

" I am what you have lost, Akihiko. What you forgot. " The figure slowly faded away, leaving only a cold sensation in the air. "Emptiness is the space where we forget. And now you must decide if you want to remember."

Seeing Akihiko 's reaction, Kaede took a step toward him, touching his arm.

" Akihiko... this isn't real. It's emptiness showing us what hurts us," she said, her voice firm, but with the wisdom of someone who had already faced her own fears .

Akihiko turned to her, his eyes dark and tired.

" I know, Kaede. But what if I can't let go of those memories? What if everything I am is built on lies?" His voice trembled slightly.

Kaede looked at him with quiet determination, as if she understood him more than ever.

" The void is showing you what you fear… but it's not asking you to accept everything. It's asking you to accept who you are now. " Her voice was warm, yet deep. "You can't keep running, Akihiko. The void is a reflection of what you have been, but also of what you can be."

III. The Door to Transformation

In the distance, the Tree's roots began to sink into the city center, and a portal of golden light opened, like a doorway to the unknown . The void seemed to unfold before them, but Akihiko and Kaede were no longer filled with fear . Instead, they felt a profound acceptance of all they had lost, all they had forgotten.

" It's time to go in," Akihiko said , looking at the portal with renewed calm. "I don't know what we'll find there, but I know we can't keep running from what made us who we are."

Kaede nodded, her gaze calm but firm.

" The void isn't something we should fear. It's what we must accept to move forward," she said, as they both took a step toward the portal. "Let's rebuild what we've lost, together."

IV. The Light of the Void

When they crossed the portal, the world around them began to transform . The void was no longer an eternal night , but a warm, golden light that illuminated everything it touched. The air no longer felt heavy, but light . The roots of the Tree became shimmering pathways that stretched toward a still uncertain future.

Akihiko looked at Kaede , his expression one of resolve and peace .

" The void wasn't the end. It was the beginning," he said with a small smile. "Everything we've experienced, everything we've forgotten... we will renew it. This is our new beginning."

Kaede nodded, and for the first time in a long time, she smiled with the certainty that the future was not something to be feared, but something that could be built from what they had learned .
