Chapter 546 - Chapter 8: memories reviewed

Meanwhile Harry was standing there trying to be inconspicuous. People came and went. He was watching the clock hoping that Hermione and Ginny would be back soon when a pretty young blonde in her twenties came up. Filling out her robes quite well. "Hey Pete. Long time no see."

Harry had no idea who this woman was but she obviously knew the man he was pretending to be so he just grinned and nodded the way he had seen Fred and George do when talking to the other girls on the team. "Oh yeah hey. Can't talk much I'm on duty."

"Oh posh you're in Gringott's there can't be much going on here for you to do. So who're you guarding eh?" She had stepped up close enough for Harry to smell her perfume and notice that she was definitely filling out her robes quite well. He may have been twelve but puberty was starting to get its start. And this body had already been through it quite a time ago.

Knowing that Moody would explode if he said anything plus not sure if this woman was confusing him and a total stranger to him regardless if she knew Pete. "Look you know I can't tell you anything."

"It better not be another girlfriend you're hiding. I'm not the type to share."

"Believe me she's not a girlfriend. Just a person I was ordered to watch."

The young witch hummed, "Well I'll give you the benefit of the doubt this time but you better make it up to me later." She said as she leaned in and kissed him on the lips. Harry too shocked to do anything didn't respond. The girl got a very upset look on her face but at that moment Muldoon came walking up.

"Malloy. Who's yer friend?"

"Um sorry sir. I got distracted."

The girl was glaring at Harry when Muldoon chuckled, "Well I need my officer young lady so move along."

"We'll talk later Pete." She said as she huffed off.

Harry glanced at Hermione and Ginny to see the two of them just standing there shaking their heads. Ginny laughing quietly while Hermione just rolled her eyes.

Harry quietly fell into step as they moved over to Ollivander's. Entering the shop Harry was still slightly in awe of the hushed powerful feeling of the place. The boxes of wands lined up in their precise orderly fashion. The man himself stood quietly behind the counter watching them with a faint smile. Having met Luna's father now he wondered if the two could be distantly related.

"Ah yes hello Mr and Mrs Potter. And young miss Potter now it seems."

Muldoon chewed his tongue as they walked in. "Now how do you be knowing that?"

"Because Peter Malloy Carries a 11 inch oak wand. Very effective for his duties but that is the 11 inch Holly and Phoenix feather wand of Mr Harry Potter."

"You're right Mr Ollivander. I asked if I should carry it and Officer Malloy said yes because if I used a spare wand from the department it might not work as well." Harry explained.

"Quite right too. The wand chooses the wizard always and only works the best for the one they have chosen. Which brings us to you young miss."

Looking deeply at her he hemmed and considered things. The tape measure flew around her and measured various aspects. Sighing deeply he shook his head and began muttering to himself almost. "Yes things have changed indeed. No the same one won't work. Could it be possible. Yes let's try that one."

He came back with a box and set it gently down on the counter. "Come closer young lady. I don't bite."

Ginny gulped and stepped right up to the counter. She looked at the box expectantly to see a slender beautifully crafted wand when he opened it. It was 10 inches long according to the tag. The handle was carved with a winding vine wrapping around to give a grip. There was a small eagle's head at the fat end. The wand tapered off to the tip and was of a pleasant polished yellowish white color.

"This one is quite a fine specimen. It has an eagle feather core. Rowan 10 inches. I have a feeling this one will do quite well."

With a bit of prodding from Hermione Ginny reached out and took the wand gently out of its box. She gave a slight flick of her wrist and for a moment it seemed like nothing happened then a slight shimmering glow formed in the air around her. It grew brighter until it looked like she was surrounded by a soft watery light then it faded. Ollivander looked like Luna when she was given her favorite pudding he was so happy. Ginny's mouth was open looking at the wand like it was the most wonderful thing ever. Hermione patted her on the back. "Good job. That was something."

"Yes indeed. I will be curious to see how you turn out with that wand young miss. I have a feeling you will do quite well in life. Now that will be 7 galleons please Mrs Potter."

Hermione handed over the galleons. Walking out of the store they made it back to the station with enough time to spare for Harry and the others to sit and talk to Malloy and his partner Reed while waiting to revert back to himself. Muldoon checked all of them for tracking and observing charms and found none to his relief. "Moody would have me hide if I let one through."

"Um Sorry Mr Malloy but I think I made your girlfriend mad." Harry turned to him after being checked over.

Reed laughed, "Oh so nothing he hasn't done for himself before."

Malloy just shot Reed a look before asking, "What happened."

"Uh I was standing in Gringott's and she got kinda nosy and personal and I didn't know anything so I told her and she kissed me and I didn't react but Muldoon showed up in time and rescued me. She said you'd talk later."

Reed was laughing, "Better stop by the flower shop on the way out tonight after shift."

Malloy shook his head, "Yeah I better. Thanks kid for the heads up. I don't think you did anything too serious. Mandy is not a bad girl just doesn't understand Auror work."

Harry just nodded along. He felt himself start deflating and changing so headed back to the locker room with Malloy to give back the uniform and collect his things. When he was back to himself clothing and body they went back out and collected the rest of his party.

"Thank you Mr Malloy for letting dad pretend to be you. It was funny to see his face when he got kissed. I don't think he liked it as much as when mom kisses him."

Malloy laughed while Reed just said, "Well I sincerely hope not for his sake."

Hermione's nod of agreement just amused everyone except Harry who smiled hopefully at Hermione before she laughed and kissed him on the lips causing a shocked expression on his face and everyone else to laugh. Muldoon passed the rope back out and said, "Alright goodbye folks."

"Later Muldoon."

And with a wrenching sensation they where gone again landing back at the base Hermione merely stumbled while Harry spun off the air and landed on his butt on the floor.

Hermione helped him up, "I didn't think I kissed you that hard."

"Well it certainly made the world spin." Harry quipped.

"Smooth. Very smooth."

Another group of people appeared in the room. Harry was happy to see that Dan Granger was only slightly better able to remain standing. He grabbed for the auror pretending to be Tonks as she fell though.

"Oh curses. I hate that."

"Are you ok?"

"Yeah one of the downsides to being a morph is our sense of balance sucks and gets tripped up by these stupid things."

"Muldoon report."

"Aside from Mr Potter having a taste of Malloy's love life and an encounter with Bill Weasley nothing bad."

Moody raised an eyebrow at which of the two events Harry wasn't sure but hoped it was the Bill Weasley one. Dan was grinning in a way that Harry knew meant he was going to get teased a bit it about later.

"What happened with Weasley?"

Hermione reached into her bag to pull out the memory vials. "He gave me these memory vials and said they showed Dumbledore talking to his mother and Ron. Something about Harry having a destiny."

Moody frowned very hard. His magical eye had stopped spinning and was focus on the vials so intently Harry expected them to explode any second. "Alright come on then. Fairchilde you better get back into your own clothes before you mess up her outfit. Same for you Cadet Tonks."

He led the way from the room with Dan whispering, "So taste of his love life?"

"His girlfriend came up and kissed me thinking I was him. Nothing else."

Dan just laughed and elbowed him. "Well as one married man to another better not let it happen again. They never forget."

Emma leaned forward and whispered into the conversation, "No we don't."

Dan just shut up and looked ahead. Harry decided that was a good idea and emulated him.

Hermione and Ginny went off to the bedrooms with their duplicates where in a few minutes they came back as themselves.

"Ahh that's much better. No offense Mrs Potter. Just more comfortable in my own skin." Auror Fairchilde smiled.

"No offense taken. I'm not sure I'd like to do that very often." Hermione understood. Going over to Harry and giving him a hug again. Ginny joined them.

"Alright all I'm going to get Amelia so we can have a briefing on this." He pocketed the Weasley memory vials and spun off into an apparate.

"Well lets get lunch. We missed out on that." Emma says heading for the kitchen.

"So how did things go with you guys?" Hermione was asking her parents as she helped her mom get things together for lunch while Harry and Ginny set the table.

"It was okay. Aside from having someone show up and follow us around it seemed like after we left the pub. But we didn't run into anyone that knew you so it was really not quite as exciting as your dad was I think hoping for."

"Ok well maybe the Bond movies played that cloak and dagger stuff up a bit." Dan huffed chopping the vegetables his wife shoved at him.

Fairchilde and Muldoon both laughed. "Half the time our jobs are just standing or sitting or walking around. The other half is paperwork. With the rare and occasional duel or wand work required." Muldoon explained.

"Sounds like what I've heard some of the cops that come into the practice say."

"Probably the same magical or mundane world. Just different ways for bad people to be bad."

"Nice to know people are people no matter what."

The conversation was pleasant and about comparing the two worlds. Muldoon had traveled quite a bit more than Fairchilde and definitely more than Tonks who had just recently graduated Hogwarts and entered the Auror Academy. Even though she had a Muggle-born father.

It was a few hours later and the family was going over their Hogwarts spells with Ginny. Her new wand doing wonders for her ability. The Grangers excited to see real magic being performed still. Even if they had been seeing Hermione and Harry working all summer wonders. Muldoon pointed out that Ginny's wand would be perfect for protection and healing spells. He had a friend a long time ago with one made of Rowan and she was an excellent healer and spectacular defender. Giving her life in the war against Grindelwald to save a dozen men who had been pinned down by SS Wolves. Ginny swallowed and hoped she could be that brave if it came to that. Muldoon just pointed out that nobody knows what they will do until they need to do it.

Moody came walking in from the apparate point followed by Ms Bones. "Anything happen?"

"No sir. Young Miss there is a strong caster sir. Her folks have taught her most of the first year spells already."

Ms Bones smiled, "Well maybe someday we'll have a new Auror to replace this curmudgeon." She said nodding towards Moody.

Ginny blushed and shrugged. "Maybe."

"Well whatever you do I'm sure you'll do quite well. Now I suppose it would be pointless to ask to speak to the Potter's alone?"

Dan nodded his head ,"Yeah probably." Hermione and Harry nodded with Ginny sitting on the couch between them.

Moody just grunted, "If they are close to him this will affect them to you know. They might as well find out now. We don't want to go down the path Albus started."

Ms Bones pulled up a chair and sat down with a frown that would have made McGonnegal proud. "Yes indeed. The memories Mr Weasley showed us where of a conversation between Molly Weasley and Albus Dumbledore. They where discussing how to regain control of Harry since their original plans had been destroyed by the loss of their catspaw to Hermione and the Grangers. They seemed quite concerned as Dumbledore was worried that the destiny Harry had would be lost if he had too much to live for. Apparently this destiny is the one overriding concern Dumbledore has for Harry's life."

Emma and Hermione both glared at the comment. "What do you mean if he had too much to live for."

"Unfortunately we do not know exactly. They did not discus that. They discussed the loss of the Weasley's daughter which Ron apparently did not care about as that made him the baby of the family again. They discussed what Ron would have to do to try and break the Potters up, going so far as to use love potions on Hermione. It seemed that Dumbledore absolutely opposed Hermione falling in love with or otherwise joining with Harry. Given some of the things they discussed and considered for Ron to do it is probably for the best that Ron did not survive as I'm afraid that if he had tried some them it would have resulted in him going to Azkaban if they had been revealed."

Harry and Hermione held hands tightly. Harry bit his lip to try and calm down at what was being revealed about his alleged 'best mate' and his family.

"I'm sorry about this Harry but you deserve to know the truth. Ron was not your friend. He never was."

Harry swallowed back his tears and nodded. "I understand Ma'am. I have plenty of real friends now so it'll be ok."

"Yes I'm sure you do."

"Ma'am. Could we see these memories?" Hermione was thinking again Harry could tell.

Ms. Bones frowned again. "I am not certain you would like to do so. They where quite callous and I most assuredly do not feel that Ginny should be exposed to them."

"True I agree with that." Hermione's stern look made Ginny stop whatever she was going to say and go over to sit with Emma. "However Harry and I knew Ron and we spent time at the Burrow. So Maybe there is something they where discussing we could recognize that you might have missed ma'am."

Moody laughed again, "That one's gonna logic her way into your job Amelia one day, much less replace me."

"Yes so it would seem. Unfortunately those memories where placed into evidence so are unavailable however if Moody would be willing to bring his pensieve here I could provide my memory of watching those memories."

Daniel smirked, "Hunh that seems rather recursive."

Ms Bones chuckled, "Well that is the way things sometimes go with magic. You get used to it or you go insane."

Hermione mused, "That does explain a few behavioral and cultural observations I've made."

Moody came in with his pensieve and set it on the table. Ms Bones pulled a copy of her memory and placed it in the bowl. Harry, Hermione, Moody and Ms Bones touched the shimmering surface and vanished into the memory. Then they watched as Ms Bones vanished into a pensieve memory and they where drawn along.

Looking around they where in a tent in the desert. The Weasleys where sitting around chatting amicably when Dumbledore showed up and waved his wand. Everyone froze except Molly and Ron.

"So Molly I have news of Ginevra."

"Oh where did the little brat turn up?"

"She turned up at Miss Granger's home with the help of the Lovegoods. Unfortunately this brought Harry into the picture and he has escaped from the Dursley's grasp. They in their petty minded anger renounced him and broke the blood wards."

"Drat. Well maybe if she comes to her senses that'll throw a wedge between those two and Ron can get the bookworm."

"Given what I was told by a source at Saint Mungo's she will not be feeling romantically inclined towards Harry ever, she sees Miss Granger and Harry as her parents. Further the ministry is recognizing their magical bond as a legal marriage in our world."

"What?" Molly in the memory shrieked. "That's impossible you can't get married until you're 13 in the wizarding world. We've had that law since the 1800s. She's supposed to marry Harry. You promised we'd get her and him together."

"Yes I am very well aware of that Molly, however this is an older law. The laws of love and magic which our society still recognize. They made a magical bond. "

Ron slapped the camp table, "Damn I didn't know him and Herm did it. I wanted to be first in her knickers."

Dumbledore just sighed, "It would appear there are more than one form of consummation accepted by the forces of magic. Regardless Harry got there before you."

Molly seemed to notice Bill was still staring at them, "Are they going to notice anything?" She said pointing at her family.

"Oh no this spell puts them in a mental and physical stasis. They'll wake up as if they had nothing happen at all. If need be you know the obliviate though so deal with them. Though don't let Ron cast it until he gets better. We can't afford to have another chicken wander off the farm."

"Well I guess since she's not worth much as a bride anymore there goes getting Potter's money."

"I'm not as concerned about his money Molly if he remains with Miss Granger he'll gain more self confidence and self control. Especially as her parents are for muggles quite resistant to memory modifications. If I did not know better I would suspect her father was a squib."

"Great. That would figure. No way she's just a plain muggle." Ron grumped.

Molly was looking at him thoughtfully. "You know we could still make this work. Get the girl to marry one of the older boys and get Ron to marry Potter."

"Hey old lady back off. I don't do back doors."

"You will do whatever you are told if it means we get Potter under our thumb young man. And remember with the right spells or potions that won't matter. Rhonda. So if you want to be the top in the relationship you had better pull yourself together and get that boy separated from her." Molly threatened with her finger poking Ron in the chest.

The glare Ron threw at his own mother was not friendly or familial. Before things escalated the memory Dumbledore chuckled.

"I have a feeling that Harry would be rather just as resistant to the thought of taking Ron's virtue and as he has proven himself quite capable of working around obliviates, personality and memory modifications in the past, all focused on that blasted brainy bint, that might be too problematic to convince him that Rhonda had always been Rhonda."

Molly was looking like she wanted to throttle someone. "Well if that stupid Pettigrew..."

"Never use his name in my presence." Dumbledore thundered.

"Sorry," even though she didn't sound too sorry, "if Scabbers hadn't messed with her head too we might have been able to recover from this."

"Yes well water under the bridge. Where is the fellow anyhow?"

"He went over to the village to see if he could find anyone fun he said." Ron pointed. "He said he'd be back later and work with me on the obliviate. Probably one of the twins. They're so weird no one would notice if we mess then up."

"Might actually improve them." Molly said.

"Well do whatever you think best to keep him under wraps. We can't have him running around blabbering on about things. I have to make sure Harry stays on course for his appointed date with destiny."

"I thought we got rid of Voldemort in first year." Ron sneered in a fair imitation of Draco.

"Yes well that still does not negate the role Harry has to play. He still has his destiny he must achieve." Dumbledore dismissed Ron with a wave of his hand.

"Well I must return home and deal with a few things. So I'll just do a bit of tidying up with Arthur and the boys. Make sure we don't have any problems with them."

The memory ended and another began.

Bill was greeting his family at the international port-key point. He was smiling and hugging everyone when he apparently noticed someone missing.

"Hey wheres little Gin?"

"Who?" Arthur asked.

"Ginny? My sister? You know little Ginevra the wild one."

Percy sniffed, "William have you been in the sun too long we do not have a sister."

"Nice prank Bill. But we'd have noticed that." Fred or George said.

"Yeah Bill remember I'm the baby of the family." Ron smirked.

"And a cutie wootie one too." Fred pinched Ron's cheeks.

"MOM? Whats going on with these jolly jokers?" Bill sounded very upset.

"She smiled at him and looked around before pulling her wand out and saying, "obliviate"

That memory ended just the same as the other one did. Everyone flew back out of the pensieve with Harry jumping up and throwing things.

"That lying nasty battle axe bitch! She told me to my face she loved me like a son and wanted me to think of her like a surrogate mother. If that's the way she treats her own son then I'd rather go back to the Dursleys." He then collapsed on the floor breathing hard.

Hermione and everyone had stayed out of his way until he collapsed then Hermione was there holding him with Ginny holding Emma tightly. "Is daddy going to be alright?"

Emma hugged her, "Yes dear he just had a bad shock it looks like. Someone he thought was nice turned out to not be."

Ginny got up and hugged Harry too. After a few minutes he calmed down. Leaning back into Hermione he rubbed their arms, "Thanks guys. I'm sorry for blowing up like that."

Moody grunted, "Don't feel bad kid. If the harridan wasn't pushing up daisies already I'd be sorely tempted for some extrajudicial punishment and I can tell you that there's been only a few I've felt that way about."

Daniel was a bit confused not having gone into the memory. "Um excuse me but not having seen this or met the people involved more than once and then only briefly in a crowded store could someone please explain what this memory showed?"

Hermione turned then bit her lip, "Does anyone know what would happen if you tried to take a muggle into a pensieve?"

Moody looked at Ms Bones who looked at the other magicals in the room with a question. After a moment the general consensus seemed to be a common shrug. Even the highly traveled and experienced Muldoon did not know of an answer to that. "We have never heard of anyone attempting that. So we're not even sure its possible." She explained.

Daniel leaned back in his chair seeing the expression on his daughter's face. "Whoa there pumpkin. As much as I value expanding the boundaries of knowledge I'm not sure about this. What kind of risk is there? And how dangerous to my health would this be? Would I get in and not be able to get back out?"

"All valid points Mr Granger. I'm afraid Hermione that now is not the time to be experimenting about with this."

She pulled the memory back out of the pensieve and returned it to her head. Moody emptied the pensieve and did some sort of clearing ritual before he turned and went off with it to his secured section of the facility.

"Dad, the memory showed that Mrs Weasley was using her daughter as a tool to get Harry's money. She wanted her to grow up and marry Harry. Since she couldn't use her daughter she was actually considering turning Ron into a girl or making him gay to get him and Harry together."

Daniel and Emma shook their heads and just looked at Hermione. "That is no mother. Wanting to change her own child like that. Do all that to another child. That's abuse. Doesn't the wizarding world have laws or something to deal with that? How could she. "

Ms Bones showed some of her irritation, "Yes Mrs Granger we do have laws against abuse. However due to the blood bigotry, a society that is still trapped in the past, family traditions and magic it makes things rather complicated. Your daughter and her husband would not have been recognized as married at their age if it wasn't that magic had recognized their bond. They would not have been able to adopt Ginny as their daughter if it wasn't for our society placing the family bond as recognized by magic above our own mortal laws. So like I just said it is complicated. Molly Weasley's actions while reprehensible are borderline legal. IF she had turned her son into her daughter against their will it would become an issue, IF she purposely introduced a love potion to entrap a person into a marriage it would have been a criminal offense. IF she abandoned her daughter we could have done something about it. As she is dead that has all become a moot point."

Silence settled over the room as everyone reacted to the restrained anger in Ms Bones voice. "I am sorry for lashing out at you Mrs Granger however you did not grow up in our society. You see things from your own world without realizing that your family has benefited from our laws and our traditions. We are part of your world just as you are part of ours but we are not the same. Things work differently for wizards and witches."

Emma was still frowning, "Still I know that there are some differences in culture but how could she do that to her own children."

"Molly Weasley was from a pure-blood family. An older one. They see daughters as a way of forming family alliances. That their worth is determined by how proper and desirable they can be to a potential husband. I am surprised that Molly had not tried to get a betrothal agreement in place for her daughter and harry. Fortunately a magical bond overrides even a betrothal agreement."

"Oh how very Victorian." Emma huffed

"Look dear there is a lot we are still learning. We've only been involved in this for a little over two years now. And then focused mainly on supporting Hermione's education. All the rest of this stuff is new to us. I mean what have you learned Pumpkin?"

"Not a lot of the culture other than the blood bigotry stuff is prevalent. Even among some of the good people its there like common knowledge casual bigotry."

"Yes Mrs Potter. Our culture has been allowed to convince itself that blood purity is what makes a person worthy or not. It is pervasive and will take a great deal of effort and time to reverse. However in many ways it is based on facts as magic does make us stronger and better than muggles at least physically."

Emma scoffed at that. "Now that I don't see. I mean Harry wears glasses and everything that happened with Ginny. You even have a hospital."

"Yes Emma, magic makes us stronger, better able to endure things, not invincible. There are limits. However no one in the magical world ever gets the common cold, there are no diabetics in the magical world. Yes people wear glasses because magic is unable to perfect the human eyes, the brain or the heart are not able to be healed the same as other parts of the body. Magic can do wonderful things but terrible things too." Ms Bones tried to be sympathetic.

"Look at the abuse Harry received in his home with the Dursleys it would have killed a muggle child. Look at the injuries Moody has received in his life. They would have killed you Mr Granger. Many of them where done by dark magic and he barely survived. Dumbledore is 150 years old. He is still healthy and capable of being a threat. Hermione, Ginny and Harry can look forward to at least a century of life barring accidents, malfeasance or serious illness. The current average life expectancy of a magical human is around 130 years plus or minus. That is assuming a natural death not from accidents or malfeasance. " Ms Bones was trying to explain softly but firmly. She had encountered other muggles whose children where involved in things because they didn't understand how the magical world worked.

Emma blinked at that. Hermione's mouth dropped open and Dan raised his eyebrow. Harry though looked like he realized something, "So that's why when she hit me with the frying pan it hurt but didn't kill me."

Everyone turned to Harry in shock, "Your aunt hit you with a frying pan?"

"Yeah I dropped the bacon on the floor so she swung at my head. I ducked and she hit me on the shoulder. Splattered hot grease all over me and it hurt. She threw me in the cupboard after that." Harry reluctantly explained as everyone was staring at him in shock. Hermione just hugged him that much tighter.

Emma shook her head again. Like the world was pressing down on her head and she was trying to get out from under it. "This is too much to handle all at once. You're saying that if someone hits a wizard with a frying pan they'll not get injured?"

"No. We can still get hurt. You can shoot us, stab us, do all kinds of physical injury to us. Even starve us but it'll take far longer. Magic protects us and wants us to live so it does what it can even without us being aware of it to help protect us from the worst of it. One reason the old witch hunts used so much violence." Moody looked reflective. His family had been involved in protecting magicals for a long time.

"Exactly and in case you did not get the magical talk from madam Pomfrey I should remind you Hermione that muggle birth control pills will not work on a witch. Your body will know if you are pregnant or not. Your magic can sense that. So only a magical spell or potion will work, unless you use physical means."

Hermione blushed and mumbled, "I'm not ready for that." Harry shyly nodded in agreement.

"Yes well whether you are ready or not your body is capable of it. So you should know about it." Emma said. "Thank you for pointing that out to us. It looks like there is a lot more we need to research."

"Mom the castle has a great library and since you'll be living and working there you can access it." Hermione's eyes lit up at the idea of a research project. She still hadn't let go of Harry though.

Daniel was thinking, "You talk like magic is alive and can think."

Muldoon laughed about that, "That's probably the safest way to think about it. Lots of people in the wizarding world would argue over that concept and have been. For my personal sanity I treat magic like a living breathing sentient being and it all works out in the end for the best."

The other adult magicals murmured or nodded agreement. Daniel just let the subject drop as one of those things that he would consider different and deal with it.

"Ok folks lets move on to dinner. We're not going to change the world overnight." Moody grumbled. He headed for the kitchen and his turn at the stove. Which meant it was going to be a simple yet hearty stew.

"Well it still doesn't explain this great destiny Professor Dumbledore thinks Harry has." Hermione was biting her lip as they stood up. "Do you think that there is a prophecy about Harry?"

Ms Bones and Moody both paused and looked between each other and Hermione. "We had not considered that. True prophecies are not common and are registered with the Department of Mysteries. They do not announce them to the general populace only those who the prophecy is about."

"Then why wouldn't I know about it if there is ?"

"If you are a minor when the prophecy is revealed it would be told to your guardian not you."

"So if there was one about Ginny we'd be told about it and then could decide to tell her?" Hermione considered.

"Exactly." Ms Bones confirmed.

"Well looks like Mayhew is going to be getting a visit tomorrow." Moody said from the stove.

"We will probably need you to be available if they confirm that there is one involving you Mr Potter."

"I guess I'll be available."

"Well school starts in 5 days. Minerva wrote us and said she will be here tomorrow to get the contracts signed and go over the teacher handbooks and stuff with us. So we'll be moved into Hogwarts over the next couple days. You kids will come up with us I suppose, but otherwise you'll have your own schedule." Emma said.

The discussion then turned to the practical aspect of how two muggles where going to function in a magical community like Hogsmeade. Given that the Floo network worked for Muggles too it looked like they would be able to maintain contact with the muggle world. Ms Bones pointing out that there was an interchange available between the magical post office and the muggle one. Another thing that was not revealed to the muggle-born students at Hogwarts due to the smugness of the pure-bloods.

"Well are there roads and such around Hogsmeade?"

Moody chuckled, "That off road vehicle of yours will be useful as they are old farm tracks and turn to straight up mud when you get out of the village. Course your biggest problem is that the valley is unplottable and has muggle repelling wards on it so if you get out of the boundaries getting back in will be impossible."

Daniel looked thoughtful, "Is that sort of like that pub you get into Diagon Alley through?"

Ms Bones looked at Daniel with her eyebrow raised. "Yes it is. Why?"

Daniel got a sheepish look and cleared his throat. Hermione jumped in though, "Professor McGonnegal told us that only a magical person can see the pub but dad could see it without holding my hand."

Moody stared at Daniel with his magical eye. "You have a weird aura for a muggle. Definitely not a squib though. Anyone in your family with magic other than yer girl?"

Daniel shook his head in surprise. "Not that I'm aware of. I mean if they where they didn't leave any signs of it. Maybe its from doing those magic mushrooms back in University..." he chuckled uncertainly.

Moody growled slightly, "No if that was the case it would have worn off by now."

"Well Dumbledore did say my parents where resistant to memory modification." Hermione pointed out.

Moody's magic eye shifted to Emma as well. "Hmm you have an aura like your husband ma'am. Not quite a magical but not a muggle either. Nor is it that of a squib. But its a lot closer to theirs."

Emma got the same thoughtful look Hermione did. "perhaps long term exposure to magic changes the non-magical person as well. I mean Hermione has been actively magical for two years or more now. We've been living around a lot of magical things and people for the last month or so."

Moody frowned, "I would be careful voicing that opinion around the wrong person. One of the biggest blood bigot arguments against muggles and muggle born is that they are stealing magic from wizards and witches."

"Well if magic is alive like you are arguing maybe its adopting us." Emma sweetly said.

"Again that is not exactly a common opinion nor is it a popular one."

"Well we'll do our best to muddle through and stand up for what we believe in. And yes Minerva already warned us there are people on the board that are not happy with us but she managed to use some bureaucratic tricks with help from a Madam Longbottom to get them to agree to this. That is not going to deter us." Emma was using a tone Ms Bones could tell was not going to brook argument.

"Mrs Granger I have no doubt that you and your husband will do all you can. I look forward to the changes this might bring. Regardless of that though you are an enigma."

"What do you mean?" Emma asked polite and sweet. Daniel knew that she was still fuming from the earlier discussion.

"What I mean is that you are the first parents of muggle-borns who have this ability. You are the first non-squibs to be able to see or sense the magical world. Unless magic is changing the rules it operates under or you have magical blood you're not aware of you should not be able to see the Cauldron."

"Can I give dad my wand and see what happens?"

Muldoon raised his eyebrow but said nothing. Ms Bones tilted her head in thought but said nothing. Moody grumbled ,"Well he's your dad so that's up to you. And I won't tell anyone anything but I doubt it'll be anything other than a fancy stick in his hands."

Hermione shrugged and handed her wand over to her dad, "Just take it and kinda give a gentle wave with it. Don't say anything or try to cast a spell dad."

Daniel took it and waved it around a bit. Nothing much really happened. Dan swore he saw a slight glow from the wand but everyone else dismissed it as wishful thinking.

"Mom?"

Emma took it and did the same. If anything it seemed like she might as well have been waving a chopstick from the Chinese takeout place they liked. She gave it back to Hermione with a slight shrug.

"Well like I thought nothing. You two are some kind of random chance I suppose."

Muldoon hummed, "Maybe, but I keep telling you Al the druids back home say that we are entering a season of change.

Al growled at Muldoon but not deeply. He had a concerned look on his face, at least harry thought it might be more than his normal one.

Ms Bones spoke, "You know there was a Hector Dagworth-Granger. He lived back in the 16th century I think."

Hermione perked up, "What did he do?"

"He founded the Most Extraordinary Society for Potioneers. I believe it was under the rule of Henry the VIII"

"Yes it was a reward for helping him father a son with his wife." Moody said.

Everyone looked at him in shock, "What I'm not just a pretty face you know."

Muldoon just chuckled and agreed with him on that.

The discussion then turned to their plans for the classes. Daniel was hoping to point out the various changes to society and how technology had changed. Emma was just hoping to learn more about the biological differences and do what she could to help out. Especially given what she had just learned a few minutes ago.

Before Ms Bones left for the night she took Harry aside, Hermione hovered nearby. "Harry your godfather has been recovering in Saint Mungos under guard in the secure ward. He sends his regards to you and says congratulations on beating James' record for getting married and having a family."

Harry smiled and held his hand out for Hermione to come over. "Tell him thanks Ma'am."

She smiled back at the couple, "Yes well. His trial will be in a couple of weeks. You will not be required to be there and to be honest I think I would feel more comfortable if you didn't come. The media circus this is turning into is going to be a security nightmare."

Harry nodded, "I can understand that ma'am. I don't want to be in the middle of anything more than you want me there."

Ms Bones nodded her head in acceptance of that, "Good. I will keep you informed. But it does look like he was unfairly treated. He will receive a fair and unbiased trial I'll see to that. Now if he is found innocent would you want to meet him?"

"Since he's my godfather would he have any say over me?"

"No. You are a married and emancipated adult. He knows and understands that."

"Yeah I guess that would be nice."

"Very well. I'll keep you informed. Good night Harry, Hermione."

"Good night ma'am."
